Heartfelt Send Off for Inaugural Year 12s at the Tunnel Celebration
28 November 2024
On Friday, 15 November, King's Pimpama honoured our inaugural Year 12s as they walked their final journey through the campus during the Year 12 Farewell Tunnel. Beginning in the auditorium, the event opened with Chapel attended by their parents and families.
From there, the Year 12s made their way to the High School Staff Room for a morning tea and the chance to say goodbye to their King's Principals, teachers and management. They then walked through the campus and were greeted by enthusiastic Kindy to Year 11 students and rest of the King's staff who lined the pathways and breezeway, giving our Year of the Cornerstone students hugs, high fives, cheers, and small gifts. Meanwhile, parents gathered in the King’s Table forecourt for a special morning tea.
The morning ended with an emotional walk to the forecourt where parents and friends gathered to cheer them on as they exited through the front gates.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Your impact on our College community has been profound, and we are excited to see the incredible futures you will build. May God’s blessings guide you as you embark on this next chapter of your journey.

26 November 2024
On Thursday, 14 November, our 2024 graduates and their parents gathered in the Auditorium for the Year 12 Graduation Dinner. The evening was a memorable celebration of recognition, reflection, and the collective achievements of this remarkable cohort.
During the event, students who demonstrated exceptional academic attainment or excelled in specific pursuits were honoured with special awards. These acknowledgments highlighted the dedication and talent within the graduating class.

We extend our congratulations to King's 2024 award winners, whose dedication and commitment to school life shone brightly this year.
Graduation for Students Who Undertook Additional Study
1 December 2024
Many of our students undertake various external courses during their senior schooling and successfully complete these as part of their study load. On Thursday 7 November those who had completed their course via GeSS Education attended their Graduation Ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
The event was held at GeSS Education campus in Australia Fair. The weather was very accommodating allowing the event to be held on their open roof area. Students were nervous and excited about finishing their courses and to be receiving their official certificates. When asked about the experience of why they studied the course or what they hoped to get out of it, Emily (Yr12) said “I decided to study the Diploma of Event Management because I was interested in the event industry, whether its planning, coordinating or assisting in events. I wanted to gain experience and skills that could enhance my academic qualifications and set me up with practical knowledge. The idea of getting a head start on my career while still in school was really motivating for me. It felt like a great opportunity to combine my passion with real world experience.
Ashley (Yr12) commented about why she undertook this enormous workload. “I decided to study the Diploma of Event management because I wanted to gain practical, hands-on experience in the events industry while still in school. It was a great opportunity to develop valuable skills that will help me in my future career, and I also wanted to challenge myself with something beyond the regular curriculum with something I was passionate about.” When asked how she managed the workload, she said ‘balancing both the diploma and my academic studies was challenging at times, but I managed by staying organised and prioritising my time effectively. I created a study schedule, breaking tasks into manageable chunks, which helped me stay on top of both my schoolwork and diploma requirements. As I am still uncertain on what I plan to do but I know that my Diploma will come in handy with any studies that I continue to embark on moving forward. Whether that is studying a connected course in university, branching out and becoming a flight attendant and using my skills to move up internally within the business, or to continue working in the business areas I am currently in, and move up in their internal branch into the Events department.”
Jaylin (Yr12) who was awarded the “Academic Excellence Award” on the evening, for her outstanding commitment to the Diploma of Business and her exceptional responses to assessment tasks said she “decided to study a Diploma of Business in my final schooling years as it was a head start in a potential career; it is an alternative way to get into university, it's a backup and a diploma gave me additional QCE credits. A diploma will give me an early career advantage, it will be a backup to a potential career path. A diploma will diversify my career options, and it increases my professional credibility. As I planned out set days for when I did schoolwork and when I did diploma work it helped me stay on top of both workloads, and to balance them out.” When asked what her plans were for 2025, she said “My plan for next year is to take a 6-month gap year to work and then start university around June/July. I will be doing a Bachelor of Social Work and potentially pair it with a bachelor’s in business.”
Aldo (Yr11) who undertook a Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development completed the program in one year due to his determination and commitment. When asked about how he managed the additional workload while maintaining his academic studies he stated “by prioritising work when it needed to be done and utilising holidays for extra study, I managed the additional workload well. This approach allowed me to stay on top of my schoolwork and even complete the diploma more quickly than expected.” The reason he chose to undertake the diploma was “because it gave me the opportunity to try something new that aligned with the career path I hope to follow after school. It was a great chance to gain experience and qualifications in a field I’m passionate about.”
The burning question was would they recommend future students undertaking additional study while completing Years 11 and 12, Aldo did not hesitate by saying
“Absolutely! If you’re interested in having a backup qualification as well as the extra benefits it can bring to your ATAR and QCE, then additional study is definitely worth it.” Ash responded “Yes, I would recommend it, but only if you're passionate about the subject and can handle the extra workload. It can be a lot to juggle, but it’s definitely worth it for the opportunities it can open up.” And Jaylin said “I fully-heartedly recommend doing additional study while completing years 11 and 12. Even though the workload is a lot, teachers provide exceptional help and make it more manageable for you as it is more flexible with submissions. I would highly recommend it to students who know what they want to do as it would be the first steps into the career pathway. However, I would also recommend doing additional study for those who are unsure about what they want to do after school and those students should choose one of their interests, complete an additional study option and see if they want to make it a career or not.”
It seems unanimous that even though it is a lot of work it pays off in the end. Congratulations to all those students who persisted to complete a qualification that will give them an advantage moving into life after school!

SUPANOVA Excursion
1 December 2024
On Friday 8 November, 10 students attended the Supanova event at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, powered by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) – the technology industry’s peak body. Designed to inspire and educate students aged 14-17 about the exciting opportunities in the technology industry, and engage with tertiary students and career-changers, Supanova is about encouraging everyone to explore career pathways and discover the digital world. Students of all ages and experiences will have the chance to engage with cutting-edge technologies, meet gaming personalities and explore potential career paths in the gaming and tech sectors.
Students were excited and inspired after the event and some returned to do additional days over the weekend as there was far too much to see and absorb in the short time that was spent there on the day.
Feedback from some students about their experience:
Gurvir (Yr 9) when asked why he attended the Supanova excursion? “Because I would possibly like to be an engineer when I grow up. So, I saw this as an opportunity to see if I like it or not and if its suitable for me or not. I learnt about how IT and engineering works and how to started/ get a job with it. It also taught some ways to get experience to get a job in those grounds such as joining NASA challenges. I also learnt about the value of AI and how it’s changing the future of technology.”
Paige (Yr 11) comments on the event; “I attended Supanova because I was interested in the technology of game design. I enjoyed the panel discussions and enjoyed looking at the stalls that small business and indie creators (an independent creator) were running. I learned a lot about more about XR (Extended Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality). Before I only knew brief thing on VR and now, I know more. It made me want to explore more on the topic. This was a great event to learn about possible career paths other than just the ones I was thinking about and even finding other career paths I can go into with the degree I'm going to study after graduation. “
Matteo (Yr 9) said “I attended the supernova event to further my knowledge just a little bit more into robotics and technology. I enjoyed the cosplayers (an activity and performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character) and being able to see how their outfits were designed as well as a seminar on coral reef photography using AI. Something I learnt was being able to expand my social circle, talking with people, how the world has advanced very far and the great things technology can do to improve daily life and global issues. I believe this event created bonds between the teachers involved. It was great.”
Mr Rob Taylor, Head of Digital Learning and Innovation, who attended the event too stated “Supernova is more than a pop culture and tech convention—it’s a powerful opportunity for students to develop technical skills and connect with industry leaders and education providers. Through hands-on workshops, students learn coding, game design, 3D modelling, and more, guided by industry experts. Panels and talks by seasoned professionals offer insights into tech and creative careers, helping students understand what skills they need to succeed.”
On all accounts this was a successful excursion for students interested in technologies as future career options.

Newton House won High School Principal's Cup for 2024
3 December 2024
Newton “We are the Champions, we are the Champions, we are the Champions” of the High school! After a year of dedicated commitment to sport and academics Newton were crowned the House CHAMPIONS for 2024.
Newton students, led by their fearless Captains, Emily Clark and Grant Garcia and passionate Newton staff under Jonathan Francis’ guidance, were motivated to show their competitors Finney, Tyndale and Rayleigh that they were a force to be reconned with in 2024.
On the sports field they participated with enthusiasm to win the swimming carnival, but to seal the Principals Award they excelled in the classroom too. As a reward for this outstanding achievement, the Newton students and staff enjoyed a day at Wet’n Wild. Students made the most of the day attacking the heart stopping rides with the same enthusiasm they showed on the sports fields while the staff enjoyed the lazy downtime floating around Calypso Bay on tubes or bobbing in the wave pool washing away the pressures of the year. Fun was had by all, and our students were amazing.
Well done NEWTON and Thank you Rob Verreynne for allowing us to create more fond memories as the winning house of 2024.

TAFE Trainee Awards Evening
3 December 2024
A school-based traineeship/apprenticeship (SAT) requires a student to attend paid work one day a week for the duration for their SAT to develop the skills required for the job to become a successful employee in the industry they have chosen. Students do this while maintaining their academic workload and completing the qualification associated with the SAT. This is a huge commitment as students must work through all their holidays as well as term time. This especially is a commitment for students who undertake a childcare SAT which takes two years to complete.
TAFE trainers put forward school-based trainees for the TAFE awards, who have shown exceptional commitment and dedication to their traineeship by being an exceptional employee on the job and completing their course work in a timely fashion.
The evening started with a parade of students showing off the talents of make-up and hairdressing apprentices. Sophie Petherick (Year 11) is a 1st year Hairdressing apprentice, whose talent was reflected through a cosmo / glitter themed hair-do including an intricate diamanté design with lighting interwoven through the model’s dual buns. Her creativity is evident in the outstanding design.
The parade was followed by the trainee awards. Pimpama campus had 2 students nominated for this award – Jessica Meade and Ella Jessop. Both young ladies were employed at Noah’s Ark as school-based trainees for their last 2 years of their schooling. They showed commitment and passion for the young students in their care at Noah’s Ark.
Congratulations to Ella Jessop who was awarded ‘Early Childhood Care and Education School based Trainee, Highly Commended award ‘
Ella Jessop is an outstanding nominee for the Early Childhood School-Based Trainee Award. She excels in learning, consistently submits high-quality assessments, and applies her knowledge effectively in the workplace. Ella demonstrates remarkable resilience, effective time management, and a collaborative spirit. Her dedication to early childhood education and community involvement makes her a deserving candidate.
Ella’s career plan is to continue in the childcare industry as she has found her passion in caring and nurturing our youngest King’s students. Jessica intends going to University to complete a Bachelor of Education.

Year 6 Graduation Celebration
28 November 2024
On Wednesday, 27 November, our Year 6 students marked a major milestone, celebrating their Primary School graduation in style!
Dressed to impress, they gathered in the King’s Table forecourt for photos before the ceremony. During the formalities, students received their graduation certificates and Bibles from Mr Verreynne and Mrs Malcolm. The celebration included a fabulous two-course dinner, and the evening was filled with special moments, including a highlights video, baby photos, and the first Dance Battle between the classes which was won by 6PE!
It was a night of mixed emotions—joyful memories, excitement for High School, and heartfelt goodbyes to Primary School. We are so proud of our Year 6 students and thankful to staff and parents for creating such a memorable event. May God bless our graduates as they step boldly into High School and continue their journey at King’s!
As part of their Term 4 PBL Energy project, our Year 6 students showcased their creativity and critical thinking skills in a fantastic culminating event.
The highlight was five polished TED Talks, delivered confidently by selected students, capturing their unique perspectives on energy-related topics. The event also included class towns that displayed different energy sources and electrical circuits. Throughout the project, students chose how to present their findings, exploring diverse mediums such as visual art, written word, speeches, and more. This flexibility allowed them to express their ideas in ways that resonated with their strengths and passions.
Congratulations to all Year 6 students for their effort, innovation, and insightful presentations!

Year 5 Culminating Event for Term 4
28 November 2024
Year 5 students recently wrapped up their financial literacy lessons with an engaging and hands on culminating event. In collaboration with Year 9 students, they participated in a makeshift supermarket set up, complete with stalls selling lollies, popcorn, drinks, donuts, and more.
As part of their maths lessons, the Year 5 students had already budgeted a set amount of "money" to spend on their food. They had to make choices, weigh lollies, and navigate real-world challenges, such as items being sold out and adjusting their spending accordingly. The event not only gave students a practical experience in budgeting and money management but also helped them develop problem-solving skills as they faced the kind of decisions people make in everyday shopping.
The event was a fun and educational way for students to apply what they had learned in class, making the concepts of budgeting and financial literacy come to life in a memorable way.

Year 3's David Fleay’s Excursion
26 November 2024
In Weeks 6 and 8, the Year 3 students visited David Fleay’s Wildlife Park to bring their learning to life.
The day began with a walk around the wildlife park, where students observed animals such as the platypus, rock wallabies, and cassowary. They completed scavenger hunts along the way, learning more about these animals and their habitats.
Students watched the crocodile feeding, which was spectacular, as they witnessed the power of the crocodile’s jaws and learned how to stay safe in crocodile territory.
During a wildlife encounter workshop, students explored the characteristics of living and non-living things. They also participated in a hands-on activity, creating a wetlands habitat and identifying its living and non-living elements.
We ended the day with the bird flight show, featuring majestic birds like the white-bellied sea eagle up close. The natural setting of the conservation park, with healthy animals in natural enclosures, provided a wonderful environment for learning and understanding the importance of wildlife conservation.
This excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with the world around them. Thank you to the students, staff and parent helpers who made these days a success.

Capes swished through the playground and classrooms as they added a touch of magic to the school day. From crazy sock day to wacky hair day, the creative spirit was alive and well.
These fun-filled days were part of our staff culture initiative, bringing smiles to both students and teachers as we counted down to the Christmas holidays. A big thank-you to our amazing teachers for adding that extra sparkle to the term’s end!

CBSQ Sophomore Championship
11 November 2024
King’s Pimpama Wins Their First CBSQ Title!
The King’s Sophomore boys' team (grades 7-8) made their debut in the CBSQ tournament in 2023, finishing 13th out of 16 teams in Division 3. With at least half of the team returning from last year, we were able to keep a core group together going into the 2024 tournament. We were confident we would come in a lot stronger than last year. In an impressive final, King’s defeated the previously undefeated Bremer State High team from Ipswich to clinch the championship.
Game Summaries:
Game 1 – Trinity Lutheran College (Ashmore)cFinal Score: King’s 36 – 28 Trinity. The game was tightly contested, but King’s took an early lead and maintained it to secure a 12-point victory. Joshua Phipson led the team with 13 points, while Tyler Jongwe and Josiah Barrett made significant contributions on defence, limiting Trinity’s star player, Luca Williams, to just 9 points.
Game 2– Brisbane Christian CollegecFinal Score: King’s 47 – 27 Brisbane Christian College King’s started slow, with some back-and-forth action that forced a timeout for regrouping. Azarian Michie and Josh Phipson combined for 21 of the team’s 47 points. Notably, Elijah, our youngest player in grade 7, came off the bench to make a significant impact, showcasing maturity and earning Coach Jordan’s trust. The team pulled away in the second half, allowing the starters to rest for the next day’s games. Game 3 – St Mary’s College (Toowoomba)cFinal Score: King’s 26 – 28 St Mary’s. King’s entered this game overconfident after winning the first two matches, expecting an easy victory against a St Mary’s team that had yet to win. Unfortunately, after resting key players, King’s lost in a buzzer-beater upset. This loss, while disappointing, turned out to be a blessing in disguise with King’s still finishing first in the pool. Game 4 (Crossover Stage) – Yarrabilba State Secondary CollegecFinal Score: King’s 69 – 1 Yarrabilba. With the previous loss still fresh in their minds, King’s put an emphasis on strong defence, allowing only one point to Yarrabilba. All 12 players contributed to the scoreboard, setting a high standard for the remaining games. Game 5 (Quarterfinal) – Mable Park State HighcFinal Score: King’s 47 – 16 Mable ParkIn a crucial quarterfinal matchup, King’s demonstrated their dominance with a commanding 31-point victory, securing a place in the semifinals and moving one step closer to qualifying for Division 2. Game 6 (Semifinal) – Meridan State CollegecFinal Score: King’s 52 – 11 Meridan. King’s set the tone early with pressure defence and fast-paced play. The game was never in doubt, allowing key players to rest for the grand final. Bronson George contributed 10 points off the bench, while Josh Phipson led the team with 16 points. Game 7 (Grand Final) – Bremer State HighcFinal Score: King’s 43 – 18 Bremer. King’s entered the final knowing Bremer would be their toughest competition, having dominated their previous games. A pre-game devotion led by Pastor Daniel Kahika encouraged the boys to cast their fears onto Christ. The team came out with confidence and determination, showcasing exceptional teamwork. Joshua Phipson scored 14 points, while Azarian Michie topped the score with 17 points, proving himself as one of the standout point guards of his class. The offence was good but the defence was exceptional, demonstrating that defence wins championships.
Conclusion The King’s Sophomore team set a goal to qualify for Division 2, a feat made possible by the dedication and hard work of all the players. Winning the grand final in such dominant fashion was a testament to our collective efforts and faith.
Thank you to the parents, players, and the entire squad - especially those who didn’t get as much playing time. Your contributions were invaluable, and our success wouldn’t have been possible without the entire team. We learned the importance of prioritising the team over individual accolades, fostering a culture of mutual support and high standards on and off the court. King’s demonstrated our values and represented the school with great pride. Glory to our Savior, Jesus Christ—may all praise be given to Him.

Starting with group classes at the Nerang BMX track and local Friday night races, Miah quickly discovered her passion and talent. In January 2023, she took the leap into competitive racing, representing the Ashmore BMX Club in state and national events.

Competing in the 8-year-old girls' age class, Miah made her mark in several major competitions:

By the end of 2023, Miah was ranked 6th in Queensland and 10th nationally for her age group—an outstanding achievement for her first competitive season!
2024 Season and Beyond
This year, Miah has continued to build on her success, competing in Queensland and NSW State Series races and the Oceania Continental Championships. Notable highlights include:
1st Place in all races, including the final, at the NSW State Series event in Lake Macquarie for the 9-year-old girls' age class. 9th Place at the Oceania Continental Championships, just missing a spot in the final.
A Journey Beyond Results
Through her BMX adventures, Miah has gained more than just rankings. She’s developed incredible confidence and formed friendships with fellow riders from across Australia and New Zealand. We’re so proud of Miah’s dedication and achievements, and we can’t wait to see where her BMX journey takes her next!
Milly Wins National Songwriting Competition
26 November 2024
Congratulations to Year 6 student, Milly Saad, who recently took first place in the Australian Children's Music Foundation National Songwriters Competition! Competing in the Year 5/6 category, Milly's original song, Baby Brother, stood out among over 800 entries, with her category narrowing down to just 80 finalists before she was crowned the winner.
Milly wrote Baby Brother when she learned she was going to have a baby brother, capturing her excitement and love in heartfelt lyrics. She was thrilled to record her song professionally in a studio, adding a special touch to her already remarkable achievement. As part of her prize, Milly received a fantastic cash award, which she plans to invest in her musical journey through vocal lessons, new instruments, or workshops.
Well done, Milly! Your school community is incredibly proud of your creativity and hard work. Keep shining and sharing your talent with the world!
Milly’s musical talent doesn’t stop there—her original song and other vocal recordings can be enjoyed on her YouTube channel:
Congratulations to Mulee Muhliana for being our Active School Champion staff member for the end of the year. Mulee has been an active public transport user ever since she first started working at King's Pimpama but this was made much easier when the bus stop arrived outside our front entrance. Mulee, who works in our finance department, lives in Southport. She walks to the tram from her home, then takes the tram to Helensvale Station, and gets off at the Ormeau Station. She then catches the local bus from the Ormeau station to the school bus stop in front of our entrance before walking up the drive way to her office above the Library. This, she says, takes her just under an hour to do each way. She says its worth it as she no longer has to worry about the traffic on the M1 each day, especially when it rains. She also then returns home using the local public transport. Just one more car off our busy roads. Well done Mulee - you are an Active Travel Superstar!
