ANZAC Day holds a special place in our nation’s heart, as we honour the legacy of the ANZACS and the courage and sacrifice of all Australians who have served in war and conflict. It is a time to reflect on loss, express our gratitude, and remember the cost of our freedom. As a nation, we affirm the purpose of our collective remembrance with the solemn words, ‘Lest we forget’.
At each of our KCC campuses, our annual ANZAC services offer our school communities the opportunity to reflect personally and pay tribute to our defence force personnel. For some students, this brings a new level of depth and understanding to classroom learning. For others, it provides space for personal contemplation of family histories.
On 23 April, we had a visit from the wonderful 100% hOPE.
100% hOPE is a charity from Uganda which was started by a former King's teacher, Trishelle Sayuuni.
They are also hosting a gala dinner to raise funds. Please go to their website for more information.
100% hOPE photosOn Wednesday, 30 April, Pimpama Campus hosted the inaugural King's Cross-Campus Challenge Day, where Year 5 and 6 students competed in campus teams, engaging in a variety of challenges that tested their higher-order thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity.
The day included engineering challenges, creative presentations, and a quiz that encouraged students to apply their learning from Term 1.
The Lumiere Thinkers Forum is a one-day event designed to bring students together to collaborate on innovative ideas, tackle complex problems, and present their solutions to a panel of judges.
This event provides valuable preparation for developing their potential while fostering collaboration, teamwork, and intellectual growth. Just as athletes train their bodies through hours of practice, this event is focused on training the mind, helping students sharpen their problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills in preparation for future challenges.

King’s budding Year 6 entrepreneurs developed business plans throughout Term 1, creating a product that followed sustainability principles and fulfilled a gap in the market. In class, students researched, developed prototypes and marketing, and pitched their product. The top six groups were selected for King’s Shark Tank culminating event.
The finalists were Milah Keith and Layla McEwan with Shark Barrier, Amelie Goarin, Dannie Platon and Maddison Dodds with Waggin’ Tails, Isla Hagop and Torah Tekii with Native Necklace, Evelyn Armitage, Allyvia Flancia and Pania McGlone with Lace Up, and Ianne Sullera, Evelyn Nithin, Zoe Lenton and Agnes George with StyleBot.
Congratulations to the winning entrepreneurs whose product was called Super Shoes! Maddie Smit, Olivia Jones, and Emmalise Wheeler designed a shoe that can adjust with you as you grow.
Many thanks to our amazing 'Shark' judges, Mr Jason Knight, Mrs Renee Sanson, Mrs Elize Strachan and Mrs Hope Malcolm, for giving their time and bringing their management expertise to help select our 2025 winners.

This week, our Year 5 & 6 debating teams travelled to Reedy Creek for an intercampus debate.
We would like to congratulate the students in Years 11 & 12 who received honours at the Senior School Honours Assembly on 28 April. At King's Pimpama, we aim to create an environment where enthusiasm flourishes, passions are ignited and where everyone is motivated to strive for their best.
Well done to these hard-working students. Thank you to the families who were able to attend.
Honours PhotosThe Year 9 Japanese restaurant excursion was an amazing and informative experience that showcased great examples of popular Japanese cuisine. I was able to utilise the vast knowledge that I have learned about the culture and apply it. I think the Japanese subject has truly taught me the etiquette, courtesy, and manners that Japanese people hold dear.
It is noteworthy to mention that every review of the food by the students was extremely positive. I believe the food was appetising and flavorful, and despite being vegetarian, there was a large variety of food to enjoy. It was the perfect opportunity for students to expand their taste for palatable Japanese refreshments.
The restaurant, Donto Sapporo, was a comfortable and welcoming place that truly encompassed the full experience of traditional Japanese food and architecture. The lovely restaurant staff were very hospitable and treated us with respect and kindness. They were open to understanding our questions in Japanese and were very patient. The design of the restaurant and the traditional cutlery really added to the experience.
In essence, the exciting trip was an awesome way for all the students to grasp the authentic ambience and feeling of a Japanese restaurant. It was a wonderful experience that captivated me and many of the students, and overall, I was grateful and appreciative to have been able to attend.

I love Japanese food and enjoyed the restaurant experience. It was interesting to see differences in how food was served compared to Western-style restaurants. Napkins are placed horizontally instead of vertically since we were using chopsticks. Also, the food we had was a bento box, so it was served in a compartmentalised dish, with some side dishes.
There was a lot of food, and it was all delicious. I was excited to try sashimi and vegetable tempura for the first time. I hope to learn more about Japanese culture in the future.

On Monday, the Year 9 Japanese class drove over to Donto Sapporo where we began our experience in an authentic Japanese restaurant. Donto Sapporo was a cozy and small place where the Japanese culture and atmosphere caught our eye with decorative features; everything contributed to a realistic traditional experience. The waiters and waitresses were extremely welcoming and joyful; it was a genuine experience of what it would really look like in Japan.
As the food came out, everyone was worrying about Japanese courtesy and manners, and I admit I, too, was a little overwhelmed about it, but once we were ready to eat, I could not wait to dive into all of the delicious food they set out for us.
We were given one large bento box filled with tempura, karaage chicken, horseradish, and seasoned rice. On the side, we were given sashimi, miso soup, and more. Everything was delicious, but I was totally full by the end.
Later on, the waiters and waitresses came out with homemade matcha ice cream that was packed with flavour; this was by far my favourite part of the whole trip.
We ended our experience at Donto Sapporo by asking the chef a few questions and gifting them with some chocolate. I thank the Japanese teachers that came along with us for making this experience possible.

Our recent trip to Redlands College with the Senior Executive Leadership Team was an inspiring and memorable experience. One of the highlights of the day was meeting guest speaker Jeff Walling, a renowned communicator and director of the Youth Leadership Initiative at Pepperdine University. Known for his powerful storytelling and ability to connect deeply with young audiences, Jeff shared insights into the art of impactful speech and leadership through engaging activities that made learning both fun and meaningful. His message encouraged us to embrace authenticity, find our unique voice, and communicate with purpose.
The day was also filled with moments of connection and laughter as we engaged with the student leaders from Redlands College. Through group activities, collaborative workshops, and shared mealtimes over delicious food, we had the chance to build new friendships and exchange ideas in a relaxed and supportive environment. These interactions helped strengthen our sense of community and reminded us that leadership is shaped not just by skills, but by meaningful relationships and shared experiences.

On 30 April, our U15 girls' team proudly represented the school at the GC Schools Cup Touch Football tournament, held at Owen Park in Southport. The event featured strong competition from schools across the southeast region.
Competing under All Schools rules, the girls played five 25-minute games with 20-minute rest intervals between matches. Placed in one of the toughest divisions, the team performed exceptionally well, finishing 3rd overall in their pool. They wrapped up the day with an impressive 8–1 victory in their final game.
Immediately after, several players took on a new challenge, switching gears to play Rugby League in the Titan’s Challenge. The Year 7–8 girls team secured another win, highlighting the depth of talent and versatility in our squad.
This marks a fantastic start to the Touch Football season. A special thank you to Mrs. Bruneau for her dedication—training the Touch teams three times a week and entering four King’s teams into the Coomera competitions on Friday nights.
As part of our college-wide Active Travel Program, we are introducing the King's Run Club.
