Dear Parents and Staff,
What a remarkable term it’s been at King’s Pimpama! From academic milestones at the da Vinci Decathlon to hands-on learning experiences, sports achievements, and unforgettable mission work in Bali—Term 2 has been filled with moments that reflect the heart and strength of our school community. Our students have embraced every opportunity with passion and purpose, whether worshipping together at Mega Chapel, diving into coral reef ecosystems, or simply building friendships through shared experiences.
As we head into the winter break, we’re so proud of all that’s been achieved and grateful for the dedication of our students, staff and families. Wishing you all a safe and refreshing break - we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3!
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are doing." - 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Five of our outstanding Year 6 students – Harsha N, Alec D, Madeleine S, Oscar S, and Alannah R – were selected to represent our school in this year’s Ethics Olympiad competition, which took place on Tuesday, 10 June 2025. They competed against teams from New Zealand, Hong Kong, and every Australian state, demonstrating their ability to think critically and ethically about real-world issues.
Throughout the competition, students were challenged to base their responses on ethical principles such as fairness, respect, responsibility, and empathy. They also explored various types of ethics, including utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics, and care ethics, to support their ideas.
The team had prepared thoughtful discussions around six diverse ethical cases, each rooted in familiar books or everyday scenarios:
We are proud to share that our team:
The Ethics Olympiad encourages students not to argue for the sake of winning, but to collaborate, reflect, and offer reasoned and respectful responses. We are incredibly proud of our students who brought their moral compasses and critical minds to this international ethical stage. Congratulations on your outstanding efforts and well-deserved recognition.
On Monday 9 June, our Year 5–6 debating students proudly participated in their second inter-campus debating competition for 2025. It was a fantastic day of learning, critical thinking, and confident communication as students put their preparation into action.
Throughout the term, students worked hard to prepare their arguments. After receiving the topic earlier in the term, they were placed into teams and assigned roles such as first, second, or third speaker. Together, they collaborated to build strong cases, refine their points, and practise effective rebuttals.
The competition offered a valuable opportunity for students to challenge themselves in a supportive setting. Each team spoke with clarity and confidence, showcasing not only their growing public speaking skills but also their ability to listen, respond, and think on their feet.
We are proud of the enthusiasm and commitment shown by all students. Debating helps nurture essential skills such as teamwork, empathy, and persuasive communication skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
Well done to all of our debaters on a successful and rewarding experience!
Last year, selected Year 5 and 6 students had the unique opportunity to step into the world of television when they spent the day filming for the 9Now series The Actually Very Difficult Show, a high-energy kids competition show.
These two exciting episodes are now available to stream, showcasing our students tackling challenges and reading scripts - all under the spotlight of real film crews and production teams. It was an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience that gave them a glimpse into how TV magic is made, from lighting and sound to direction and performance.
The featured students are now our current Year 6 and 7 cohort, and we’re incredibly proud of the way they represented our school with enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork. Whether they were completing quirky challenges or cheering each other on, their energy was infectious.
If you'd like to see our stars in action, these episodes are now live on 9Now - look out for familiar face
Episode 58 - Australia Episode 63 - Under the SeaLast week, our school community came together for a wonderful celebration of Active School Travel, and what a morning it was. Under crisp, clear skies, over 70 students and their parents embraced the chill and walked, rode, or scooted their way to school. The reward… a delicious breakfast of cereal, Milo, fruit, and poppers waiting at the finish line with Zero the Hero, along with plenty of happy smiles and a strong sense of accomplishment.
To add a little extra excitement, each student who participated was entered into a draw to win a special voucher. Congratulations to our lucky winner, Leah K. in Year 3, whose name was drawn by Mrs Malcolm in front of a very excited crowd.
It was a fantastic way to promote healthy habits, connect with others, and start the day on a positive note. A huge thank you to everyone who took part, especially the families who made the effort to travel actively together.
Every Tuesday | 7:30–8:00am — King’s Running Club
And don't forget, our commitment to fitness doesn’t stop here. The King’s Running Club takes place on the front field, where students, staff, and parents lace up their shoes and run or walk their way toward their distance goals. We’re especially proud of the group approaching a half-marathon milestone—what an incredible effort!
Active, healthy, and full of community spirit, thank you for making this week such a success.
Over the past few months, our Active School Travel Committee, made up of dedicated High School students from Years 7 – 11, has been working behind the scenes to plan an event that would encourage active, sustainable travel to school. Drawing on student feedback and school travel data, the team designed the morning to reflect what matters most to our school community: wellbeing, safety, and connection.
The result was a vibrant and energetic morning! Students arrived by bike, scooter, and on foot, welcomed by a healthy breakfast spread. The atmosphere was buzzing as friends met at Gainsborough Parklands and travelled to school together, chatting and celebrating the benefits of starting the day actively. Once at school, the fun continued as students enjoyed a breakfast of fruit, pancakes, delicious muffins and juices. It was fantastic to see so many students making the most of the fresh air and fun – a real celebration of community spirit and healthy habits.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event – from our student leaders and staff organisers to the volunteers and families who took part. We also appreciate the support of the City of Gold Coast, who have provided expert staff to guide our program, as well as funding to get it off the ground.
As we look ahead to our next event in Term 3, we hope to see many more High Schoolers choosing to travel actively. Not only does this reduce congestion on our roads and benefit the environment, it creates greater opportunity for interpersonal connection. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue making active travel a positive part of our school culture.
Olivia D. - Year 9
Our Year 9 students recently returned from an exciting and meaningful trip to Melbourne, where they experienced the best of the city’s history, culture, and modern attractions.
The day began at the bustling Queen Victoria Markets, where students had the opportunity to explore the vibrant atmosphere, sample delicious local and international foods, and test out their budgeting and bartering skills. From there, the group headed to Planetshakers Church, where they were welcomed into a dynamic and modern worship space. With live music, engaging presentations, and an uplifting environment.
Students were split into groups to visit three key landmarks across the city:
Hope D. - Student report
The Year 9 Melbourne trip was an experience that brought me closer to God and I highly recommend going. There were so many fun experiences and I really enjoyed the trip! We got to see the Holocaust museum, Melbourne Skydeck and many more cool places. One thing I took away from the trip is that no matter where you came from, what your past is, God still loves you, and he is always there for you.
Our Year 7 camp at Kindilan Adventure Camp was an unforgettable adventure filled with laughter, courage, and connection. Over the three days, we challenged ourselves through activities like the leap of faith, zip lining, kayaking, and team-building challenges. Each moment pushed us to grow, whether it was stepping off the edge of a platform high above the ground or working together to solve problems and support one another.
One of the highlights for me was kayaking, because we weren’t just paddling around, but we did games and challenges throughout the session that made it exciting and memorable. We raced to collect rubber ducks scattered across the water, teamed up to complete balance challenges, and ended up splashing each other and laughing nonstop. But what truly made camp special were the nightly devotions. Gathering together each evening to reflect, worship, and dive deeper into our faith created a space where we could all grow from each other’s experiences while forming new friendships. These moments helped me grow spiritually and reminded me of the importance of trusting God through every season of life.
Camp wasn't just about adventure, but it was about overcoming fears, discovering our strengths, and spending quality time with friends. Whether we were cheering each other on during challenges or chatting late into the night, we built memories that will stay with us forever.
Madison S. - Year 7
What an incredible day it was at the Coomera Sporting Complex for the Streetsmart AFL Gala Day on Tuesday, 4 June. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and our students truly shone, both on and off the field.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all families for allowing your child to participate in this special event. The boys represented our school with pride, displaying exemplary conduct, sportsmanship, and an admirable team-first attitude throughout the day.
Over the course of the event, our team played three highly competitive games, impressively doing so with no bench players. This meant every student gave their all from the first siren to the last, showing incredible stamina, resilience, and determination. Their commitment and energy never wavered, a testament to their strong character and love for the game.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the parents who attended and supported the team. Your positive energy, encouragement, and presence made a real difference and added to the spirit of the day.
While results are always a part of sport, what truly stood out was the way the boys supported one another, celebrated each other's successes, and maintained a positive mindset throughout. It was an inspiring display of teamwork, grit, and community spirit.
We are so proud of each player and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a rewarding experience. We look forward to many more days like this ahead.
Blessings

Semester 1
Year 9 Sports Excellence students engaged in a comprehensive unit centered around Physical Activity Plans for Fitness, Health, and Wellbeing. The term began with students undertaking a series of fitness tests to assess their current physical capabilities and to inform the development of personalised fitness plans. These plans aimed to enhance overall health and performance, with a focus on goal setting, consistency, and reflection.
A major component of the semester was the development of Rugby League proficiency. Students were assessed through direct observation during gameplay, where they demonstrated a range of technical and tactical skills. Throughout the term, students refined their abilities in:
These skills were practiced through structured drills and game-based scenarios, culminating in their application during competitive gameplay.
In addition to player development, students also explored the role of the official. In Term 1, they participated in a 1-day referee training course held at school. This course equipped them with the knowledge and confidence to officiate both Rugby League and Touch Football games. These refereeing skills will be put into practice during upcoming King’s Touch Tournaments, where students will take on officiating responsibilities.
To complement their physical training, students also attended the P3 Recovery Centre during Term 2. These visits introduced them to a variety of recovery methods used in sport, including ice baths, contrast therapy, infrared saunas, and compression therapy. The centre features a range of recovery pools with different temperatures tailored to specific recovery needs:
Ice Bath (5–10°C)
Cold Bath (10–15°C)
Warm Bath (28–34°C)
Hot Bath (35–40°C)
These experiences helped students understand the importance of recovery in athletic performance and injury prevention.
Looking Ahead - Semester 2 Focus
For Semester 2, the focus will shift towards Participation, Collaboration, Teamwork, and Fair Play. Students will engage in activities and sports that emphasise inclusive participation, effective communication, and positive team dynamics. The aim is to foster a supportive sporting environment where students not only develop their physical skills but also grow as respectful and responsible team members.
Our Year 10 Sport Excellence class has had a dynamic and engaging semester, with students developing their skills and understanding in both netball and basketball. With a mix of students who are fluent in one or both sports, the class environment is energetic and constantly evolving, keeping students on their toes as they learn new techniques, strategies, and roles within each game.
Term 1 – Netball Focus
The term was dedicated to netball, with students diving deep into the fundamentals of the game. They explored the roles and responsibilities of each position, the importance of teamwork, and how individual strengths contribute to team success. A strong emphasis was placed on shooting technique, spatial awareness, and effective passing. Students also began learning how to umpire, gaining a deeper appreciation for the rules and flow of the game.
Fitness testing played a key role during this term. Students completed a range of tests measuring components such as speed, aerobic power, and flexibility. They then analysed their results to identify areas for improvement and connected these fitness components to their performance in netball (and later basketball).
Term 2 – Basketball Focus
This term, the focus shifted to basketball. Students are learning to execute court plays, apply defensive and offensive strategies, and communicate effectively on the court. A few students have shown a strong interest in refereeing, which has been great to see and is an important part of developing a well-rounded understanding of the game. One of the standout aspects of this program is how it has encouraged students to give back to the school community. Several students have volunteered their time to assist with primary school basketball programs, demonstrating leadership and creating a sense of unity across year levels.
Upcoming Excursion
To round out Term 2, students are excited for our upcoming excursion to an indoor netball centre. This will give them the opportunity to apply their skills in a new environment and experience a fast-paced version of netball where the ball can be played off the nets—adding a fun and challenging twist to the game. Overall, it’s been a fantastic semester filled with growth, learning, and teamwork. Our Sport Excellence students continue to impress with their commitment, passion, and willingness to challenge themselves.

Our High School Carnival took place on Wednesday, 4 June and Thursday, 5 June, followed by the Primary Carnival on Friday 6 June 2025, marking a significant milestone for King’s. For the first time, the Pimpama campus proudly hosted the event on home grounds, becoming the first King’s campus equipped with the facilities to hold our athletics carnival.
This new setting added a special dimension to the carnival, with families and the broader school community able to cheer on students right from the front ovals. It was a vibrant display of school spirit, athleticism, and fun.
We were fortunate to enjoy clear skies throughout the week, making for an uninterrupted, action-packed schedule. Students competed enthusiastically across various events, earning points for their House and striving for the coveted Age Champion titles.
Notably, the addition of a grass running track introduced a fresh opportunity to set new foundational records across all age groups.
Be sure to check the next school newsletter for final House point tallies and the announcement of our Age Champions.

Parents, families and friends were delighted by the performances of students at the recent Twilight Studio Concerts. Students learning a musical instrument in private lessons are provided with the opportunity to perform at these concerts to gain valuable performance experience in a small, intimate setting. The younger learners have the chance to appreciate the older, more experienced performers, and the parents can see the growth of their child’s musical development and confidence.
The first concerts this season were performed across multiple venues and featured students learning Flute, Woodwind, Brass, Upper and Lower Strings, Keyboard, Guitar and Vocals. The performances were delightful, and the audiences were so very encouraging. Thank you to the students who plucked up the courage to perform, and to our audiences for your valuable support. And a special thank you to the Instrumental Music team of teachers for your professional input in the students’ learning and for providing this opportunity for us all.

On Tuesday, 3 June, 14 students from the LIFE Program had the amazing opportunity to run an outreach program at Ormeau State School. We went for National Chaplaincy Week, celebrating the great work that Chaplains do in local schools. While there, we had the opportunity to assist the chaplain for Ormeau State School, Chappy Gretel. She is part of an international organisation called Scripture Union, that spread faith and the word of God with adults, young people, and especially youth and children. While our Life Program often runs fundraisers for Scripture Union, we wanted to further support this by reaching out and showing God’s love to Chappy Gretel and the children of her school.
We did many fun things with the kids, from playing handball and serving them breakfast, to singing, dancing and making a giant conga line. They were so well-mannered and grateful, and it was so cool to get to know them. It was also amazing to be able to celebrate Chappy Gretel and the impact she has on these kids, to be able to join her efforts to reach the students at Ormeau State School, and to pray over her that God would continue to bless her work there.
We were so blessed with this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to further building relationships with these children from Ormeau, and to outreach at other schools.

In Week 6, 14 students and four staff members travelled to Bali for seven unforgettable days of community service and connection. The trip was filled with eye-opening opportunities as we partnered with Bali Christian College, colouring, making bracelets, dancing, joining them on a fun-filled excursion to the museum, and running a vibrant kids’ club. We also had the privilege of visiting and blessing homes, sharing heartfelt moments with children, and witnessing the unwavering faith of those with so little.
Despite the challenges faced by many, their strong belief in God and willingness to serve others was deeply inspiring. Through simple, practical acts, we found that joy and connection can be deeply felt and freely given. Our hope was to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever we went, yet the impact on us was just as significant. We are forever grateful for the lessons, memories, and the incredible people we met. Our prayers continue for Bali and its beautiful community.
Jacob M.
It was a deeply moving experience that went far beyond what we imagined. We spent time playing, dancing, and building relationships. From colouring with kids to hosting a kids’ club and visiting homes, every moment overflowed with purpose and connection.
What stood out the most was the strength and joy we witnessed in those who have so little. Their faith, resilience, and generosity were truly humbling. They taught us that faith is not based on circumstance, but on trust and hope. As we served, we were reminded constantly of why we were there: to love like Jesus and to be present in the lives of others.
Though we hoped to make a difference in their lives, it’s clear we’ve come away just as impacted if not more so. Bali, with its beautiful people and open hearts, has left a mark on us all. We continue to pray for lasting blessings over their lives and the broader community.
Janice P.
I had the privilege of travelling to Bali alongside fellow students and four incredible staff members. It was a life-changing week that shifted my perspective and opened my heart in ways I never expected. We spent our days serving at places such as Bali Christian College, Bali Impact Church, House of Hope, and the Arms of Love Foundation.
Although we went with the intention of giving, we quickly realised how much more we were receiving. One of the most profound moments was visiting children who were facing significant hardship. Despite their hardships, their joy was radiant. It reminded me to be thankful in every circumstance and to look for joy through God’s eyes, even in unlikely places.
I was nervous before the trip, unsure of what to expect, but as the days went on, my heart opened more and more. Nightly devotions became a space for honest reflection and deep connection. Hearing the testimonies of students and staff helped me grow in faith and bond more closely with the team.
I’ve returned home with a renewed sense of purpose, a heart full of gratitude, and a love for Bali that I’ll carry with me always. We set out to be a blessing, but in truth, we were the ones blessed in return.
