View all 2023 Term Dates View Compass CalendarMother's Day is always such a special highlight in the college's calendar and this year was no exception. This year we wanted to make sure that Mums had quality time in the classroom with their children, and caught up with friends and other mothers over coffee at the recently opened King's Table, while they got a glimpse into school life by visiting the classrooms.
King's Pimpama organised a special guest speaker, Ps Janet Schier, who left our Mums feeling encouraged and equipped. Janet is a very experienced parent having 3 children and 12 grandchildren. In addition, Janet and her husband Greg had over 30 foster-care children come through their home.
Mums were also treated to a card, scrumptious cookie and a complimentary coffee voucher from Zarraffas Pimpama, thanks to our P&F. We hope the mums enjoyed their treats. (Please note that the Zarraffa voucher expires at the end of June 2024 and is for the Pimpama store only.)

"It has been great to see them happily participate in our class activities. Our students learn while singing and playing games," says Mrs Olivares, Spanish Specialist Teacher at King's Pimpama
Year 4 students had great fun, and learning experiences on Tuesday 4 May, when they launched bottle rockets into outer space!
During the incursion, students explored the interaction of forces, direction of motion and gravity, with the effects of friction when exerted on things that fly. Students put together their own bottle rocket build, where they then launched and measured the thrust (push force) on each launch of their bottle rocket.
One fun fact they learnt was that we are in fact closer to outer space than we are to Noosa!
Lots of fun was had by all!
The Prep students had a fantastic time at the Ocean Life Incursion!
As part of the Term 2 unit, 'Our Marvellous World', students have been investigating the vast array of wonderful sea creatures in our marine environments. The Prep students were able to get up close and personal with a range of creatures including a baby bamboo shark, freshwater turtle, blue linckia seastars, tropical sea cucumber, black sea cucumber, and sea urchins.
Students learned about the different habitats that these creatures live in, and how they can care for, and protect, the beautiful marine life around us.

A perfect day for distance running!
Wednesday 3 May was a perfect day for distance running. King’s sent 35 students to compete in our Hinterland Cross Country event at The Southport School (TSS). The students had to run further than our school cross country track but had been training hard in the morning sessions run by our Coaches, Mr Coles and Cooper Miller. We had five students place in the top seven given, which should see them going to the regional trials, which will be held on Tuesday 7 June at Rivermount College.
Top 7 Athletes

Chloe Kelk - 12yr Girls 6th Place
Justine Platon - 15yr Girls 6th Place

Students in Years 2 - 9 are invited to join the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) for 2023.

A reader record form is available via the Compass page (see button below) for students to record the number of books they have read.
To complete the challenge:
Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim of the 2023 challenge is to encourage students to make time to read.
For suggested books or for more information about the PRC, please visit: readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au or contact Holley Greenway, College Librarian or your child’s teacher.
