Year 12 Compass Leadership Conference
28 March 2025
From February 28, our Year 12 Executive Leadership team embarked on an inspiring five-day journey at the Compass Leadership Conference in Canberra. This event focused on Christian formation and Bible-based leadership development, offering our students an incredible opportunity to grow in their faith and leadership capabilities.
The conference featured a variety of thought-provoking sessions, challenging our leaders to reflect on their leadership style, deepen their biblical understanding, and explore effective ways to lead within our school community. Beyond the sessions, students enjoyed enriching excursions to key landmarks, including the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, as well as Parliament House.
A standout experience for many was connecting with fellow student leaders from diverse schools across Australia. Hearing firsthand about the opportunities and challenges faced in different schooling contexts sparked valuable insights and strengthened their passion for servant leadership.
The conference also encouraged our students to delve deeper into their personal relationship with God and build a stronger understanding of His word. Our leadership team returned home inspired, equipped, and ready to bring fresh perspectives and renewed enthusiasm to their roles. We are excited to see how they will apply their new knowledge and insights throughout their Year 12 leadership journey.

Term 1 Chess Wrap-Up
31 March 2025

The year starts off with a bang, as our secondary students attended their first Secondary Interschool Chess Tournament of 2025 with record numbers!
Thursday 20 February, marked the first Gold Coast Secondary Chess Tournament (run by Gardiner Chess) of 2025. With 69 teams competing, our students had a run for their money. But it wasn’t without heart, as we mustered an astonishing 30 students in attendance, the most we have ever sent to an interschool event. With four teams in D-division, three in C-division, and our top team battling it out in B-division, our students saw the prize and battled hard and long.
We want to mention several students who levelled the field, the first being Wenyang Luo who won 6/7 games to secure a third-place medal. For a year eight student, we have high hopes for Wenyang. We also want to congratulate our merit winners who finished with a score of 4.5/7 or higher: Masaemon Pinkerton, Brandon Tan, and Jason Zhou. Congratulations, you each scored brilliantly and pushed your teams collective score higher.
Other students who performed brilliantly include Armanjeet Gill and Ella Park, who where thrilled to be attending their first interschool tournament. Another notable mention is Emilio Zengoski, captain of the High School Sport Chess Team. Every round Emilio took his time, squeezing water from stone to secure every endgame, no matter how gruelling. Every round students were left watching Emilio battle it out in high stakes positions.
The chess team at Pimpama wants to congratulate all students that attended the event. We are so proud of the effort our High School students put into the event, both over the board in demanding positions, and outside the event hall for bringing the respectful and kind culture Pimpama works hard to foster.
We look forward to seeing you in term two for your next interschool event!
God Bless, Pimpama Chess Team
