View all 2024 & 2025 Term Dates View Compass CalendarIn this pertinent message from our Deputy Principal, we hear about Mr Taylor's love of comics and superheroes and some of the lessons we can learn from these imaginary characters who have captivated our hearts and minds. This week's message is available via the link below:
Earlier this term, our College held a special assembly to acknowledge the outstanding ATAR results of our 2023 graduates. We welcomed back some of our highest- achievers for the event and they kindly imparted their successful study tips to our senior students. During their visit to King's, we also interviewed them and compiled this video to share their inspiring stories and advice with our community:
The High School Life program stands as a testament to student-driven compassion and embodies the spirit of service within our King's community. It provides a tangible avenue for students to extend support to both local and international charities while embodying the love of Jesus. During Term 1, our High School fundraiser rallied behind 'You Have a Friend,' an organisation in Tweed Heads staffed entirely by volunteers. This remarkable charity tirelessly prepares over 300 meals weekly, catering to the needs of homeless individuals and single parents seeking refuge from domestic violence. The funraising event encouraged our PC classes to collect meals in cans, showcasing an outpouring of generosity, and on Wednesday, 28 February, our High School united in support with a vibrant You Have a Friend Tradie Day, marked by a tradie-themed free dress day, friendly sports competitions and a lunchtime BBQ.
Our annual University Roadshow lit up the auditorium on Thursday, 29 February, providing our Year 12s with the chance to dive into the world of university life and gain insights for the next chapter of their academic journey. They had the chance to talk to representatives from the 11 visiting institutions about campus life, course options, scholarships, and what it takes to thrive as a university student. Staff from the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) also attended to discuss ATARs and guide students through the university application process. The University Showcase provided a fantastic opportunity for our 2024 graduating cohort to kickstart their university exploration, ahead of King's upcoming Careers Festival and the 2024 Open Day season. Special thanks to King's Careers team for orchestrating this valuable event.
The heart of our College community beats with a spirit of generosity and a culture of compassion. Each term, our school community rallies together for a fundraising day in both Primary and High School, channelling our collective efforts to support specific charities. On Friday, 23 February, we inaugurated our 2024 LIFE program with a vibrant Superhero Day coordinated by our dedicated Primary School LIFE team. Our Primary community eagerly embraced the chance to support Bali Christian College (BCC), dressing as their favourite superheroes and fundraising with a tasty BBQ lunch. Our first LIFE fundraiser was a super success and it was heartwarming to see our community embrace this occasion to raise funds for BCC, helping them cover education costs for families in need. Thank you Primary School superheroes for showing the love of Jesus and helping make a significant difference to those less fortunate!
Our LIFE Program invites all students from Years 3 to 12 to join the team and offers participants the chance to hone their leadership and service skills, forge new connections, and spend time serving others. Find out more about King's LIFE Program.
King's staff consistently exceed expectations in enriching our students' educational journeys, often dedicating personal time to find unique learning opportunities. Recently, one Year 6 teacher's weekend excursion to Burleigh markets uncovered 'LEX Barefoot,' a local business founded by dynamic duo, Chris and Jolene. Recognising the alignment with the Year 6 students' current project, the teacher invited them to King's to share their entrepreneurial voyage.
Throughout Term 1, Year 6 have embarked on an engaging business project and tasked with crafting a business product or service, conducting market research, developing prototypes, and formulating marketing strategies, mirroring the model of 'Shark Tank.' During a special assembly on February 22, Chris and Jolene captivated students with their entrepreneurial narrative. They recounted the hurdles and victories in establishing LEX Barefoot, showcasing prototype evolution from initial design to future releases. These insights were invaluable for our students as they refine their own prototypes. LEX Barefoot's core mission is about advocating for outdoor exploration and natural connection, particularly among children. Their footwear facilitates natural movement and growth, and the benefits of barefoot experiences. The session offered students an exciting educational experience, illuminating real-life research, design, and marketing plans. Inspired by LEX Barefoot's story, students were invigorated for their project. We extend sincere appreciation to Chris and Jolene for sharing their expertise, anticipating the transformative impact on our Year 6 students in the weeks ahead.
The spirit of friendship and connection runs deep within our College. To help foster our supportive community, every class in King's Primary has a Parent Ambassador who helps families in their class get better connected while also supporting their teacher at times throughout the year. Our Parent Ambassadors generously volunteer their time to help out, so if you are able to support them any time through the year in the classroom, or by organising a social event for your class parents or families, please let them know. If you are a new King's family and would like to get better connected, please email connect@kingscollege.qld.edu.au to be introduced to your Parent Ambassador. We also have private King's Year Level Facebook Groups which are for current parents in that year level the help with connection.
Our 2024 Parent Ambassadors have now been confirmed and we appreciate this amazing group of volunteers for their willingness to serve King's in 2024!
The Year 12 Digital Art class recently enjoyed their first excursion for the year to Snapper Rocks. The students explored various lenses - macro, telephoto and wide-angle and covered a range of project requirements, one being 'action photography.' Josiah and Erin used telephoto lenses and tripods to capture these action surfing shots, while Erin used a macro lens to photograph the lizard. Congratulations to both students for producing these stunning photos. If you're on Instagram, please show your support to our students and follow our account @kingscollegeart. Thank you so much!
King’s Primary Art Department introduced extension art classes this term for students who have expressed a strong interest in visual arts. These specialist classes are just one of the ways our students can expand their talents in a broader platform. This exciting program has been a resounding success with all places filling quickly and participants creating some very impressive artworks to date. The Primary Art Studio has been buzzing before school every Thursday as students explore their artistic talents with a specific focus on creating artworks for the Junior Archibald (Young Archie) Art competition. This esteemed competition has been running for 11 years and serves as a platform for young artists to showcase their creativity and skills. Under the guidance of our experienced art teachers, students receive tailored advice to help prepare them for the competition, while fostering a supportive atmosphere where students freely express their ideas and collaborate with their peers.
Special thanks to King’s Primary Art Department and families for supporting our student's artistic endeavours.
Our 'KM Club' has commenced for 2024! This running program began in 2023 as a way to promote physical activity and help Primary students develop their endurance for our upcoming Primary and APS Cross Country carnivals. It has been encouraging to see so many Year 3-6 students participating in the program, running laps of the oval during first break on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But it's not just fitness they are chasing, as each lap earns them points for their House and the ultimate goal of being named the House Champions this year. There are many benefits to being active and healthy, including an increased focus in the classroom, and this fun initiative is just one of the ways we help foster a balanced learning environment at King's.
Congratulations to King's students, Knox and Talus, for their outstanding performances at the State Aquathlon/ Triathlon events last weekend. Knox clinched the gold medal in the 12-year-old aquathlon category, while Talus, aged only 13, secured the 17th position in the 14-year-old's triathlon event. These outstanding achievements showcase their dedication, skill, and determination in these competitive sports. Their success serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and the importance of perseverance and diligence in pursuing our passions. We applaud Knox and Talus for their exceptional performances and look forward to following their continued success in the future!

Easter Fest Art Competition flyerDid you know there is a Toastmasters Club that meets on our campus every 2nd and 4th Monday night of the month? It's led by a member of our King’s family, and newcomers get their first three meetings free of charge to experience it before joining. Toastmasters has been operating globally for 100 years as a way for individuals to improve their public speaking skills through practice. Participants engage in various activities such as delivering speeches, hosting meetings, honing impromptu speaking skills, and receiving constructive feedback to enhance their public speaking. Not only are these events informative, but they're also incredibly enjoyable, thanks to the supportive environment fostered by the group.
The purpose of these groups is to provide King's parents with a platform to build connection and community with one another. We make every effort to ensure these groups only include current parents, however, they are not closely monitored by King's staff and we rely on the support of our members to ensure that posts are kind and considerate. These Facebook groups are also not intended to replace Compass as our main source of College information and we ask that parents regularly check Compass for important news and information. We also have other groups for secondhand uniform sales, our P&F and extracurricular programs.
If you are new to King's, or yet to join your year level group, follow the link below to find your group link and send a request to join. You must include your name on our parent database, as well as your child's name and class, to help our admin team find your record.
