This past week, the primary and high school LIFE Team joined forces to run two fundraising events that brought our entire school community together. This term, the charities being supported are You Have a Friend, which helps homeless and marginalized communities in the Tweed Heads/Coolangatta area, and Rescue Mission for Children, an orphanage working in supporting children in Thailand.
Throughout the term, high school students participated in a friendly competition, collecting food and toiletries to donate to You Have a Friend. Their efforts have been nothing short of remarkable, with over 1,500 items donated so far, a truly incredible contribution!
On Tuesday, March 18th, and Wednesday, March 19th, the LIFE Team, comprised of students from years 5 through 12, came together to host two successful barbecues to raise funds for the supported charities. These events were a fantastic display of teamwork and dedication from our students, all working hard to make a positive impact.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our entire school community for your ongoing generosity, patience, and enthusiasm. Whether you attended, donated, or volunteered, your participation played a crucial role in making these events a success.
Thank you once again for your amazing support!
In Civics students have been learning about the differences between Australia and China with regards to the different systems of governance. As part of their learning, they are writing an investigation report that focuses on how the Australian Government protects the privacy of individual citizens compared to China. To facilitate the development of student skills in the areas of time management, research, critical thinking, and group and individual work, the students participated in a full day of activities. These included a session with the Librarian to learn how to reference and in-text citate research correctly, rotation research opportunities, engage in some explicit teaching with Miss Lean and listen to a guest speaker share about data protection and some of the protocols required by organisations to protect data. It was a full day of thinking, reading, discussion and note taking.... whew!

In Geography, students travelled to Point Danger, Rainbow Bay and Main Beach to investigate environmental change and management. Students engaged with various research methods, including measuring dune profiles, wave action, public surveys and lectures. We were fortunate to experience cooler weather, with the temperature around 25 degrees, beautiful sea breezes, and cloudy conditions. Students learnt about the sand pumping jetties, groynes, erosion, deposition, long shore drift, constructive and destructive waves and the importance of beaches to the Gold Coast economy. Students worked well in their groups and collected valuable data. Our students enjoyed being out in God’s beautiful world as well as gaining valuable skills for future learning.

Year 12 students engaged in valuable data collection during their fieldtrip in February. Students used many different methods to collect data and then endeavoured to apply new techniques on their own chosen sites. Students studied the impact of landcover transformation on biophysical and anthropogenic environments. Students used transects and quadrants to determine the biodiversity of several sites and the impact of weeds on native vegetation. Students will use the data in their IA2 Field Report.

Our Year 12 Accounting class recently went on an excursion to QUT in Brisbane, where we joined students from schools across Queensland for a day of learning and hands-on activities. We started with a panel discussion featuring accountants from different industries, including the CFO of the Brisbane Broncos, who shared insights into their careers and what it’s like to work in accounting. After that, we took part in two breakout sessions. The first was about fraud, where we did an activity to understand how fraud can happen and how internal controls can stop it. The second session was a fun challenge where we built LEGO bridges while managing financial resources and producing reports. Throughout the day, we were given morning tea and lunch (Subway), which was a nice bonus. The excursion was really engaging and gave us a great insight into the different pathways in accounting. It was a fun and interactive way to learn more about the industry and how accounting is used in the real world.

Taking a Young Entrepreneurs class been one of the best choices I could have made for my academic journey. The content of this class is a perfect balance of logic and creativity, learning and devising. With every step we can ask questions, give ideas, encourage fellow students and get involved. One of the key pieces of content we have learned this term is ‘The Design Thinking Process’. The design thinking process teaches entrepreneurs how to design, choose between and understand users when it comes to the product they are creating. We had the opportunity to have an incursion with Jacqui from UQ, who taught us about this system, especially how to emphasise with possible users of our products. My favourite part of this term has been prototyping. We sketched, built and tested our products, gaining feedback and ideas from other students and altering the designs accordingly. In this class I have learnt so many skills, including how to design products, empathise with users, pitch a product and collect surveys from students I don’t speak to often. I, and my fellow classmates, find this class to be fun, creative, logical and helpful, and are so grateful to have the opportunity to learn the content and skills together.

NATIONAL SCHOOLS CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION
Should the voting age be lowered to 16? This was the question explored by ten inquisitive legal minds from Year 10 and 11 Legal Studies, who debated and voted on a mock amendment to the Australian Constitution as part of the Queensland Schools Constitutional Convention last year.
Before engaging in thoughtful discussions with peers from schools across Queensland, students had the opportunity to hear from Constitutional experts, academics, and advocacy groups, gaining a variety of perspectives and deeper insights into this complex issue.
In preparation for the event, each participating school was asked to nominate one student to create a three-minute video presenting their position on the voting age question. These videos, shared and viewed on the day, required students to justify their stance by referring to the Constitution and supporting material provided. After all submissions were presented, students voted to select the top 20 videos.
We are proud to share that Jessie Penman's speech was among those selected — an outstanding achievement! Jessie was ably supported in her preparation by Anna Morichivitis who assisted with digesting the supplied reading materials and editing Jessie’s speech. Jessie’s selection comes with the additional honour of being the first student from King's Christian College to attend the National Schools Constitutional Convention in Canberra — a fully funded event hosted by the Federal Government, running from 24–28 March this year.
At the National Convention, Jessie and other selected delegates from across Australia will take part in debates on another proposed constitutional amendment, engage with expert presenters, and experience some of Canberra’s key institutions — including visits to the National Museum and an official dinner at the National Press Club.
We are incredibly proud of Jessie — not only for the thoughtful and intelligent contributions she will bring but also for the way she represents our College with integrity and excellence. She will be a wonderful ambassador for King's Christian College.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any student considering a future in law or those passionate about Legal Studies. We look forward to encouraging more Legal Studies students to participate in the 2025 Queensland Schools Constitutional Convention later this year.

Students as Researchers: Year 12 Legal Studies at Bond University
Recently, the Year 12 Legal Studies class had the invaluable opportunity to conduct research for our IA2 assignment at Bond University. This assignment requires us to investigate an area of law reform in Australia, with some students focusing specifically on Queensland. During our visit, we had access to both the Bond Law Library and the main university library, allowing us to explore a wealth of academic resources. The experience was incredibly beneficial, not only in advancing our research but also in gaining insight into university life and its academic environment.

The first meeting for the junior student council this year was a very fun experience as we spoke with various students of our age group at different schools. They all were all really friendly and open to making conversation. The program itself spoke about many volunteering and short course opportunities as well as concerns about arising situations that are occurring within our age group. It was very refreshing to talk to about these topics with my peers as well as council members and guest speakers that came to talk to us. It was overall a great experience, and I can’t wait for the next meeting!

One of the most popular highlights of Term Two is Biz Day where the products and services of seven classes of Year 9 Young Entrepreneur’s businesses are offered to fellow King’s students and teachers.
Biz Day is a fun and unique experience where like-minded students who strive to be entrepreneurs and innovators showcase business ideas that range from food items, trinkets, accessories and games. Our innovative ideas and strategic thinking will be put to the test while making safe financial choices that help the business run smoothly. Amazing ideas from our year level include include Dutch Pancakes, Korean Corn Dogs, Strawberry Matcha Lattes, Acai Bowls and more!
I recommend bringing money on the day (cash not credit) and trying out some of these creative ventures.
In our subject Young Entrepreneurs, we are learning techniques of how to run a business, price products after working out our break-even point, and marketing strategies for attracting consumers. So far in our business groups we have create pitch videos for our venture before having it approved, survey forms to refine our ideas, we have figured out our costs, target audience and multiple types of promotion, organizing our needs for the day and our “website” which we used Canva to create.
To start up our business we are contributing our own funds (and sharing our profit among us), providing our own gazebos and splitting equipment between our members. This event will be attended by Year 3 to Year 12 during break times providing us with a diverse group of students. Our school Rock Band will play their awesome song list, creating a fun atmosphere! We can’t wait to serve you on the day!

Our KTTC Sport Development Program partners with primary schools to develop coaching skills. Through hands-on experience, they learn to coach and mentor young students and foster a passion for sports in a fun and supportive environment.
Our Year 10 students will be pursuing their potential careers by finishing Term 1 with two weeks of work experience. We wish them well and look forward to visiting them on their chosen job site over the next few days. This is an important part of their studies and life journey.
The KTTC camp took place from March 17th to 19th at Lake Ainsworth in Lennox Heads. It was a fantastic experience, filled with unforgettable memories shared by both students and staff. Here are some of the key highlights:
On the first night, the stealth game was a major hit. Congratulations to Sienna Calvi for winning Game 1 and Rhys Horne for securing the victory in Game 2.
The second night featured a Wild West theme, which brought plenty of fun. Students embraced the theme by dressing up, and there was even a student-led line dance that added to the excitement.
Chapel sessions were delivered by our guest speakers, Kane Attard and Mr Muir. Both nights provided challenging messages, and many students responded to the call of God, making the experience even more meaningful.
It is incredibly exciting to witness the growth of the Christian culture at KTTC, which is advancing in leaps and bounds.
Congratulations to Jack Parsons on securing a Cert III in Electrotechnology Electrician apprenticeship with Dansted Electrical.
Jack demonstrates great work ethic through hard work, leadership and a good understanding of the electrical field from working with his dad who is also an electrician.
Well done, Jack!
Evie and Thomas recently participated in an exciting project that blends the worlds of AI and photography. The task involved using AI to generate an image based on their thoughts and ideas. Once the AI images were created, they then set out to recreate those images in real life through photography.
This project highlighted their creativity and how technology can be used to turn abstract ideas into visual art. The results were impressive, showing how AI can be a powerful tool for artistic expression.

Braxtyn Truman, a rising young talent, has broken a 32-year-old record previously held by three-time Olympian and multiple gold medallist Grant Hackett. Truman’s remarkable performance at the Gold Coast Long Course Championship saw him swim the 400m freestyle in 4:39.98, surpassing Hackett’s 1993 record by 0.31 seconds.
This impressive achievement has positioned Truman as a potential star for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Swimming Gold Coast president Warren Dopson emphasized the significance of breaking a record set seven years before the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and now, with just seven years to go before Brisbane 2032, Braxtyn has his sights firmly set on the upcoming Games.
