After rain delayed our first attempt at Easter Fest at the end of Term 1, this past week saw the campus transformed into a playground of fun and a stage of HOPE with King's Pimpama's inaugural Easter Arts Festival on Tuesday 3 May. Our inaugural Easter Fest event was a spectacular success thanks to the collective vision, effort and support of King's staff, students and families.
With performances from musicians, singers and dancers, our King's Kids were treated to Kid's Zone with Beyond all aimed at expressing this year's theme of HOPE. Students got creative in the arts and crafts, fed the animals from Old Macdonald's Farm, played mini-golf, had a ride on the go-carts and jumped their hearts out on the inflatables. While Mum and Dad got the night off cooking dinner with the scrumptious delights on offer at our mobile food vans.
Students and staff shared the eternal hope they have in Jesus through expressive dance, singing, instruments, visual arts and film which was also streamed to the big screen outdoors. Our staff band sang of the Hope we have in Jesus.
One of the highlights was our very own entry into the cross-campus King's Film Festival competition which was shown during the stage show. The films can be viewed below.
Easter Fest was a culmination of wonderful community spirit from our entire community including the performing arts showcase and visual arts exhibition by our extremely talented students. Thank you to all the King's Pimpama staff who helped on the night.
Congratulations to the King's Pimpama Students for participating and receiving an award at the inaugural Film Festival at Easter Fest 2022:

Our College held Anzac Services at every campus on Friday, 22 April to honour the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom and peace.
Our College held a commemorative Anzac ceremony on Friday, 22 April, ahead of Anzac Day this year. The solemn service encouraged King's students and staff to reflect on the great legacy we have received by the incredible sacrifice of the courageous men and women who gave their lives in battle for our freedom. Our service began with Bagpiper, Callum, playing as the Catafalque Party entered the auditorium. During the Call to Commemoration by Emmanuel Mina Montalvo Wu, student leaders reiterated that Anzac Day is not for celebrating war but for remembering its awfulness and devastation, as we continue to pursue peace and oppose war. Thank you to Miles Descroizilles and Naomi Sweeney, Emmanuel Mina Montalvo Wu, Riley Mulford, Aeisha Boestam, Nisa Ahsani Iravani, Sam Moonen recited "In Flanders Field".
Mr Jason Knight read the honour roll and acknowledged our King's alumni and all of the Australian men and women who are currently serving in the armed forces. We were honoured to have Retired Naval Serviceman, Mr Paul Schipanski, as our guest speaker this year. Mr Schipanski served actively in the Australian Navy and he read the deeply moving poem, In Waters Deep, to the audience.
Flowers and wreaths were laid at the base of the flagpole by our students as a way to remember those who have lost their lives serving Australia in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Staff member Joanne Robinson perfectly played The Last Post, before a minute's silence was taken.
Our Catafalque Party, Lacey Keeley, Tommy Batchelor, Rocco Basham, Gemma Kiley, Lily Hornery, Parmveer Kainth and Toby Mansfield, raised our national flag, before the Australian and New Zealand national anthems were sung, ably led by our talented student vocalists. The Ode to the Fallen was read by our Head of Culture High School, Mr Glenn Miles.
Mr Knight concluded the services by urging our community to live out the Anzac values of courage, self-sacrifice, perseverance and mateship - the character traits reflected in our King's Foundational Values.
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
The annual King's Golf Day is taking place on Monday, 20 June 2022 at The Club at Parkwood, 76-122 Napper Road, Parkwood.
The King's Golf Day is open to golfers of all skill levels (who have played the game before) and comprises a field of 30 teams of 4 players (120 spaces available) The competition format will be 4-Ball Ambrose. You can register as a team, or as an individual (we will allocate you to a team)
The cost of $90 per person includes the 18 holes of golf, buggy hire, breakfast, two drinks vouchers and lunch. After the game, the players will be treated to a scrumptious "build-a-burger" lunch before the prize-giving commences around 3:30 pm, which has some amazing prizes including many from our sponsor - JB HiFi. Nearest the pin and longest drive prizes are also up for grabs.
Golfers will begin arriving from 9:00 am for check-in followed by a delicious bacon and egg roll at the club's dining precinct and a briefing promptly at 10:00 am. The players will tee off with a shotgun start at 10:30 am.
A new addition to this year's event is a Mini-golf competition for younger players or "non-golfers" who do not wish to tackle the full 18 holes on the golf course. This will be played at the Gold Coast's best and biggest mini-golf course from 12:30 pm. Boulders and Badlands is an exciting 18 hole course that weaves through rocky terrain, streams, water traps and a swinging pole, testing the skills of even the most experienced mini-golfer. This is a great family event or time to get your friends or family together for a fun afternoon. The cost of mini-golf also includes a "build-a-burger" lunch before the prize-giving commences around 3:30 pm.

We were honoured to host renowned speaker, author and television personality, Dr Justin Coulson, as a guest presenter at King's at the start of Term 2. Dr Coulson held some engaging sessions with our Years 5 - 10 students throughout the day on a range of age-specific topics, based on his thorough research and experience in coaching young people and parents. Dr Coulson hosted a live session with our parent community from across all three King's campuses, and it was exciting to have a good turnout of parents and to see everyone engaging with questions and discussion throughout the evening. In his session, Dr Coulson shared some strategies to reduce perfectionistic tendencies in our children - and in ourselves - and offered some effective ways to encourage children to take risks, make mistakes, and become more resilient and adaptive in the face of academic, social, physical, and psychological challenges.
We recorded the session for those who were unable to make it and we encourage parents to watch this valuable presentation (available online until 21 May 2022):
Just a reminder that Naplan takes place from Tuesday 10 May to Friday 13 May for Primary students in Years 3 and 5. Testing will start at 9.00 am for the Primary students while Years 7 and 9 testings will commence at 8:45 am on Wednesday 11 May and Thursday 12 May as well as Monday and Tuesday the following week (Week 5). Students who are absent will have to catch up on the tests when they return to school.
On Tuesday 3 May, the Year 3 students eagerly boarded buses bound for Brisbane. Our destination: Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) to see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra perform a concert designed particularly for primary school students. The energy levels from year 3 were running high. We arrived just outside the Queensland State Library where we quickly scoffed our morning tea and high tailed the short walk to QPAC.
Once seated inside the Concert Hall, we were educated and entertained by an incredibly talented group of musicians. The MC for the session introduced each section of the orchestra and they played their instrument so we could hear what each one sounded like. We learnt that an orchestra consists mainly of four groups: percussion, woodwind, brass and strings. Within these groups, we heard about instruments that we didn’t know existed such as the bassoon and the oboe. Once all instruments had been introduced, the orchestra played several different songs that featured a variety of instruments at different moments. The highlight was the orchestra playing music from the movie Harry Potter which many students were familiar with, and it made the students have a real connection with the music.
At the conclusion of the performance, we ate our lunch outside the State Library again before catching the bus home. It was such an incredible experience, and we feel blessed to have the opportunity to watch Queensland’s top musicians.
Last year 926 schools and 357 centres took part in the 2021 challenge, combining more than 168,000 Queensland children and students who read over 2.39 million books. What an outstanding achievement!
The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual statewide initiative for Queensland state and non-state schools and home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, as well as children (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre.
The PRC aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
Students wishing to participate in this year's challenge can collect a School Reader Record Form from the library. Students in Years 5 to 9 meet the challenge once they've read 15 books, while Prep to Year 4 students need to read 20 (but remember they have lots of pictures in their books) by August.

In the last week of Term 1 Year 9 leaders and Year 10 students had the privilege to embark on a mission trip to St George. We lead daily devotionals, shared our personal testimonies and some of the students lead worship in youth and church services. We also served people in the community by cleaning their gardens and visiting farms; helping out wherever we were needed. A highlight for me personally was connecting with the people in St George on a deeper level and learning about the way they live their lives compared to mine. Another highlight was being able to encourage and lead the kids for praise and worship at the youth services we organised. Seeing them having fun and dancing with their friends, as well as pouring out their hearts in worship to God. Overall, I loved and enjoyed every aspect of the mission trip and can’t wait for the next one. It was so humbling and gratifying.

Doubtless, no one who attended the 2022 St George Missions Trip can say that, after having disembarked from the final 8-hour bus trip, they remain the same bright-eyed Year 9 or 10 students who sprung onto the bus on day one. Between the hours of 9 am on Thursday 31 March and 5 pm on Monday 4 April 2022, a small group of students hailing from years 9 and 10 were submerged fully into the impromptu frenzy of activity that is a King’s Missions Trip. Students engaged in some local farm work, 3 church services, with opportunities to contribute at every turn, testimonials and daily devotionals, the operation and observation of how to operate some farm machinery and the chance to contribute some of our time to improving the quality of life and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who may find themselves in a rather more precarious situation than we are accustomed to. The trip was an insight into rural Australia, an opportunity for Kings High School students to fully immerse themselves in a way of life that they may not have ever witnessed before; an opportunity to engage the senses once more, to experience the full wonder and majesty of this wondrous planet. It was also an opportunity to reflect on what we do have and to be inspired by that hardworking spirit that built this country into a place we are proud to call home.
