On Sunday 1 October 2023, Kings Church officially opened the newly developed forecourt at Pimpama. The forecourt will be an amazing community space for the King's community with the church, school, and families able to connect and grab a coffee from the King's Table during opening hours.
Seen at the opening were King's Pimpama Principal Rob and Tracey Verreynne, Ps Kindah and Joan Greening, Ps Ben and Trish Naitoko, College Executive Principal and his wife, Rees & Karen Davis, and King's Pimpama pastors, Matt and Kayla Treagus.
CREATIVE BY DESIGN Week (CBD) has been a favourite annual tradition in our Primary School since 2016 and it wrapped up Term 3 perfectly at King’s Pimpama!
Our 2023 CBD theme was The Explorers - Discovering HiStory and students were taken on an exciting adventure as they explored the depths of God's great love for the world He created. Chapels focussed on the greatest love story of all and God's gift of His only Son to save our planet.
CBD Week began on Monday, 11 September, with a captivating Laser Show and t-shirt decorating. This year's exciting schedule included incredible daily Chapels for every year level, King’s Has Talent Grand Finals, Paper Chain Making, a Silent Disco, a Spelling Bee, Art Master Classes, a Colour Run, KoKocino Design Competition and much more!
Our Primary community all enjoyed growing their creative capacity and their relationship with God throughout CBD 2023. Thank you to our Chaplaincy team and our Primary School staff for organising another unforgettable CBD week for our students!
The Year 6 Cairns trip was an unforgettable adventure from the moment the students boarded the plane. They experienced many adventures from thrilling high ropes challenges to feeding crocodiles. The highlight of the trip was the visit to the Great Barrier Reef, where students snorkelled alongside vibrant corals. In the evenings, the devotions encouraged students to shed negative labels and reflect on defining moments in their lives.
Phoebe Colefax - My favourite part was spending time with friends, and making new ones and of course the spectacular Great Barrier Reef.
Wenyang Luo - One of my favourite activities in Cairns was snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef. We got to swim beside unique marine organisms and coral, eat delicious food and learn all about the spectacular creatures that live in the Great Barrier Reef.
Emma Arango - The Year 6 Cairns trip was a wonderful experience, empowering my classmates and myself spiritually and culturally. We are all grateful Kings offered such a grand opportunity.
Cooper Miller - My favourite part about Cairns is when we went to the rainforest station cause we got to throw boomerangs and paint them too and it was really fun.
Ava McCabe - Snorkeling was the experience of a lifetime, I will never forget it
Tian Smit - I enjoyed Cairns because of the high ropes. I loved all the birds and the activities.
As a 12-year-old, Hamish is almost certainly the only junior to run 2 classes: KA2 & KA3 in the history of the Australian Kart Championship. This is only possible due to his fantastic year last year in Cadets in Australia and Italy which secured him an A-grade license. Many of the kids he competed against in Melbourne are in either their second or third year in the class, many of whom already race cars in conjunction with their karting program while Hamish is still in Primary School.
Hamish's skills and achievements are nothing but impressive. With many, many more races to come, including the Rotax National Cup in Ipswich - which a first place in this event will grant him a ticket to race the world's best in Bahrain later this year, the only thing left to say is "watch this space" - Go Hamish!
This video clip below is Hamish's race in Round 5 of the KA3 Junior class - Heat 3 race:
Here are a few photos of Hamish at the event:
This year our Year 5 students went to Camp Goodenough in Tweed Heads. When we arrived, we had our first activity. The activities included a giant swing, team pursuits, a team obstacle course, crate stacking, and a high ropes challenge. Our whole camp was based on teamwork, encouragement, and responsibility. Students showed this by washing and cleaning our dishes every day and working together in all of the activities.
The meals at Camp Goodenough were exciting and delicious for all of the campers, including the teachers. During meals, some students were to serve the food. After every meal, we washed our own dishes, which taught everyone responsibility and care for their own belongings. Some students would also be on clean-up duty, which meant that they would have to tidy up the dining hall.
At the Year 5 camp, we did devotions every night. This is because the reason for the camp was to honour God and to get the students to step outside of their comfort zone. The first devotion night we learned about encouraging one another and building each other up by using positive thoughts. The second devotion was about sharing with one another, not just our belongings, but our feelings as well.
At the end of camp, everyone was very tired and sad that camp was over. Lots of people discovered that even if they weren’t in a cabin with their best friends they made some new friends. We have to agree that this was a very enjoyable camp and we all learned new things about each other and how to step out of our comfort zone. Camp is definitely something to look forward to!

Year 4 made it back safely and were happy and tired little campers from an incredible time at QCCC camp.
For some, it was their first experience staying away from home in a camp scenario and they rose to the occasion with such courage. "Our students enjoyed stepping out of their comfort zone with Archery, Bush Walking, Tree Climbing, the Gliding Possum, and more," said Mrs Monique Snowdon, Year 4 Lead Teacher. '
"1 step further than your limit'" was their challenge. The students definitely smashed that goal and came back to school with renewed resilience and confidence.
In Week 8 of Term 3 on Monday 28 August 2023, Year 4 Students - Malachi, Evelyn, Alec, Milah, Agnes, Aspen, Tony, Spencer, Sophie, and Lauren, worked together to write and illustrate a book. This was for the Kids Cancer Project to raise money for sick children with cancer.
Their team name was "Four the Write". Using the parameters set by the competition organisers, the students needed to write a story, which included characters such as, a shop owner and a skydiver as well as a non-human character - a shark. The setting of the story was to be in an antique shop and the issue of the story needed to be saving a stranger. They were also required to include random words, these included melts, ruby, shiver, sponge, and tasty. By using these parameters, the team created a book called 'The Power of the Stones’. To give you a clue about the story, the blurb says 'After jumping from a plane, Hunter must steal the Ruby stone from the antique shop that is situated on a cliff. He must rescue the stranger in the boat. Will the ruby help Hunter and the stranger survive the volcano?’
Sharing her experience of the day, Milah stated, “Write a Book in a Day” is a phenomenal experience, it helps you with teamwork, it boosts your imagination and it gives you a chance to create something that hasn’t been created before. If you are wondering whether you want to do it, I would certainly recommend doing it. There are still a few challenges during this experience including working with people you might not want to, using your brain for almost all the time you're doing it but those things and some more don’t change how fun it is!”
During the last few weeks of Term 3, some of the incredible Year 4 students took the plunge and were a part of the AB Patterson Speech Competition.
This initiative gave them the opportunity to learn the skill of creating impactful speeches on key topics and gain practice in using different speaking skills for effect. The reason our Year 4 students participated in the event was to gain exposure and skills so that they could receive feedback in order that they be competitive in future years in the areas of debating and public speaking.
Well done to all involved. We trust this experience has given you confidence to be an orator.
We are thrilled to share the incredible experiences of our Year 3 students during their excursion to the Brisbane Botanical Gardens and Planetarium in Term 3. The day was filled with wonder, discovery, and learning as our young explorers delved into the beauty of nature and the mysteries of the cosmos.
The weather on both days was nothing short of perfect, setting the scene for an unforgettable day of exploration. The children's excitement was palpable as they embarked on a journey through God's Creation, wandering through the diverse gardens.
In the tropical display dome, the students were delighted to spot a lone fish swimming through the water. Their curiosity was piqued further as they encountered a fascinating array of ferns, ranging from the small and furry to the towering giants.
On the way to the children’s trail, the students stepped into the serene Japanese Garden. Pausing for a moment to take in the peace and quiet that surrounded them before carefully crossing over the water on giant stepping stones. Some avid explorers were able to spot a water dragon hiding in the foliage. The students tip-toed over a bridge, playfully trying not to disturb a slumbering "crocodile" that to their delight had a duck sleeping on top of it.
However, the highlight of the day's adventure was yet to come – the Planetarium. The students were guided by knowledgeable staff on an interstellar journey, navigating among the stars. Their understanding of lunar phases was enhanced, and they were given a visual demonstration of how the sun, moon, and Earth interact with each other. A special treat awaited them at the end of their Planetarium experience – a mesmerizing glimpse into the heart of our Milky Way, focusing on the mysterious black hole that resides at its centre. This incredible moment left a lasting impression on our young learners, igniting their passion for astronomy.
As we reflect on this remarkable excursion, we are reminded of the profound impact these immersive experiences have on our students' education. Through hands-on encounters with nature and the cosmos, they not only deepen their understanding of the world around them but also cultivate a lifelong curiosity and appreciation for the wonders of science and nature that God has given us.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens and Planetarium for providing our students with such an enriching experience. We are immensely proud of our Year 3 students for their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day.
For the first time in King’s Pimpama’s history, our open boys entered the CBSQ wildcard tournament. Our goal was to qualify for the CBSQ tournament and be a part of the biggest school competition in the country. The boys had to meet up at school at 6.30 am to be taken out to Northside Basketball Centre in North Brisbane. There were over 40 teams and only 4 spots available.
The boys were excited and well-prepared. Going in knowing that it was a long shot, team captains Emmanuel and Aldo were both positive and excited about the challenge. Coach Jordan said “We have nothing to lose, and no one expects much from us, so there is no pressure on us. We have trained and prepared as much as we possibly could have so all we have to do is leave it all out there on the court, stick together and have fun.”
We arrived at the stadium and watched the games before us. Everyone was quietly nervous but excited to get out on the court. With the exceptional work from Team Captain Emanuel Ferisa (who managed to secure our own personal changeroom for the tournament), we knew we were off to a good start. After a prayer from the players and last words from Coaches Jordan and Daniel, it was game time.
GAME 1 vs Kimberley
We started off trading baskets going back and forth before a corner 3 from Aldo Van Deventer and some great defence as a team kickstarted us to go on a bit of a run and stretch out our lead. To end the half Mania Morgan hit a deep bank 3 from almost halfway on the buzzer that sent the Kings boys into the half with a lot of confidence.
To start the third quarter Kings started to put their foot down and stretch out the lead. Leading rebounder off the bench Kaylen Simmons helped the team out off the bench grabbing 10 rebounds and a couple of assists. This game was a really great team effort with everyone chipping in and contributing.
King's Pimpama ended up winning the first game 41 – 14.
Game 2 vs MOB
Our second game was a tough one. It was against one of the toughest teams in the competition, Men Of Business (MOB). They were a tough outfit that showed off some really good talent. They had a lot of talent and representative players that we knew would be a really strong test for us.
The game couldn’t have started worse for us with a quick tip for a bucket in less than 3 seconds.
King’s were stung by the Zone defence and quick transition play that Mob showed in the first half. We went down by 28 in the first half. (MOB 30 – King’s 4)
At the half, some adjustments were made, and King’s were able to compete. Our goal was to win the second half, and we did. The final score was - MOB 40 vs. King’s 17. It was a great second-half performance led by Tobias Morgan. King’s showed a lot of courage not to give up. In the end, MOB were able to hold on to their lead and cruise their way to the finals.
Game 3 vs Loganlea
Loganlea were so big and strong that they looked like a rugby team, but the Kings boys were focused and prepared to put it all out on the line to make sure that they would secure a spot in the knockout rounds the next day.
The game was very scrappy and physical as expected. Kings’ boys were forced to take on some big bodies and found themselves down at the quarter. Some big plays from Tom O’Connor and tough defence from Emanuel Ferisa helped King’s grind out a tough win being down a key player (Aldo) due to fouling out.
The boys were ecstatic about the day as we had won 2 out of 3 games and secured a spot in the knockout rounds where we would meet at the same place to do it all again the next day. Kings 27 vs. Loganlea 23
Game 4 finals vs. Bremer
Knockout stages - Kings boys were focused and ready for their first game of day two vs. Bremer (Ipswich). Bremer had a lot of size with some big players that King’s had to guard. King’s were definitely outsized but that didn’t stop them from competing. Bremer led for most of the game and King’s were playing catch-up basketball. Back-to-back 3s by Tom O’Connor helped the Kings boys stay within range only being down by 6 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the 4th quarter, Bremer caught fire and Kings had no answers. The effort was there but Bremer was too good in the end winning the game 40-22.
It was disappointing not to qualify in the CBSQ tournament but to be able to get into the knockout stages and compete against some really good competition has opened the eyes of our athletes and given them a clear feel for what is to be expected this time next year.
The tournament that was entered was an open tournament for all ages from Year 12. King's Pimpama students are only in Year 11 in 2023 and half of our team are in Year 10 so to be competing as the youngest team, winning two games and losing two games in total was a more than respectable outcome for our basketball program.
See you next year!
For the first time, Kings Pimpama competed in the 3x3 Primary CBSQ tournament. We took two teams which included some of our top athletes in Year 6.
Our Division 1 team got off to a good start beating Varsity, Citipoint and St. James to secure the top spot in Day 1 in their group, finishing the day with 3 wins and 0 losses.
The next day didn’t go as planned as our top scorer and rim protector Stephen O'Connor was absent due to illness. With only 3 players and no subs, our boys tried their best but missed out on a quarter-final appearance, losing to Hillcrest and having to face a 3-way tie between Kings, Hillcrest, and Citipoint who all had one loss. Unfortunately due to our "for and against" we finished 3rd in our pool which forced us out of the tournament.
It was a disappointing end but Elijah H, Griffin W, Zanden B, did a great job ending the tournament with some friendly games and getting one last win before it was over.
Our Division 2 team got off to a tough start with a controversial draw to Scarborough. They then lost a tight game to St Joseph's by 1 point. They finished the tournament going down to a strong Faith Lutheran team. Emmaus W, Cooper M, Mason P, and William M all played extremely well. It was just a few little mistakes towards the end of games that lost it for us in the end, but the boys all gave their best efforts and gained a lot of experience in the process.

Interschool chess has come to a close at our campus for this year. Term 3 was busy with many tournaments. Mr Evans and Mr Humber oversaw their weekly competitions, the young gentlemen pushed through hardships and endeavoured to improve, which they did greatly. Across eight tournaments, our Pimpama students proved they have the will to reach new heights.
Some notable students include Deni Hamade, the most curious student, and Emilio Zengoski, whom Mr Humber feared greatly in battle. Brandon Tan, Steven Xu, and Isaac Lee also raised the heat of the battle, consistently taking their place on the podiums. The chess team couldn’t be more proud of the effort all students put in during Term 3, whether they received a medal or not. All students improved not only their chess ability but also their attitude. The sportsmanship between all players rose through the roof, and we are extremely excited to bring these students along to future tournaments against opposing schools.
James Triguero and Nathan Samuel also showed immense improvement, climbing the ladder over the weeks. These gentlemen displayed what determination looks like in the face of adversity, not stopping at roadblocks, but seeing them as challenges. While we can’t write every name down, so many of the students in Pimpama Chess have succeeded not only in their chess accomplishments but also in their sportsmanship. At Pimpama we are extremely excited to see how the students use chess to further their faith in God.
Ultimately, Pimpama High School Chess has proven to become more competitive every week. The King’s Annual Grand Prix is coming around in Term 4, and needless to say, the Pimpama Campus is going to bring its A-Game. We can’t wait to work with you in the future.
God Bless,
The Chess Team

One of the biggest keys to effective study is making sure you have the perfect space. Having a good space to study can help you stay organised and increase your productivity. With that in mind, here is our guide to prepping your study space.
Pick an appropriate space
As nice as it is to snuggle up in bed with your laptop or tablet, it doesn’t make for a great study environment. It’s best to have a separate zone or area for study that you can keep separate from your relaxing spaces – this means when you sit down in your study space, you’ll be in the right headspace to start working (instead of dozing off).
This space doesn’t necessarily need to be a whole room – it can be a comfy nook in the house, a dedicated section of your bedroom, or even a space at the dining table.
Keep it functional & tidy
You probably have hundreds of books and papers, tons of stationery, and enough sticky notes to cover the whole house – but keeping your study space uncluttered and organised is important. You won’t have to waste valuable study time trying to find what you need, and a nice clean space can help clear your mind too. Make sure your desk and chair are at a comfortable height and that the space has good lighting. It’s also a good idea to keep a water bottle on hand to stay hydrated (just be careful not to spill it on your laptop).
Minimise distractions
You’ll need to remain focused when you study, so having as few distractions as possible is key. So make sure you pick a space where you know you won’t be interrupted by family, or where you can’t see the TV. And we know it’s hard, but try and put your phone somewhere out of reach while you’re in the study zone. Consider setting up temporary blockers to stop yourself from jumping onto YouTube or TikTok, or use a device that doesn’t have any games installed you might be tempted to open. If you need to study in an open or public space, you might like to try noise-cancelling headphones, or just listen to some music instead.
Make it your own
Personalising a space can go a long way to making it more comfortable. Knowing that you have a space to call your own can mean you’re more likely to want to spend time there, instead of dreading the thought. So if you can, add some personal touches to the space to make it yours. Put up some posters, add a pinboard for photos and lists, or consider adding some plants (they might even reduce your stress). Scour Pinterest or Instagram for some inspiration and work your creative muscles to make a space that’s unique and comfortable. Once you’re done prepping your study space, check out heaps more study tips on our website here.
