Our College commemorated Anzac Day with a solemn service on Wednesday, April 24, preceding the national holiday. The event was an opportunity for King's students and staff to pause and honour the profound legacy of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of our freedom. Our College Captains reminded us that Anzac Day is not about glorifying war but rather about solemnly reflecting on its harsh realities, while steadfastly advocating for peace.
Students, Parmveer Kainth and Maxim Baruksopulo, were part of the ANZAC Day catafalque party commemorations.
Mr Rob Verreynne addressed the audience and Culture Captains, David Contador and Ayla Garaty, opened in prayer and read the scripture from John 15.
We were once again honoured to have Naval Veteran, Mr Paul Schipanski as our guest speaker this year.
Mr Jason Knight read the Honour Roll and acknowledged our King's alumni and all of the Australian men and women who are currently serving in the armed forces. Flowers and wreaths were laid at the base of the flagpole by our student representatives and Mrs Jo Robinson played The Last Post. The Ode to the Fallen was read by Mr Paul Schipanski and Mr Josh Ruben.
At the conclusion of the service, our community was urged to live out the ANZAC values of courage, self-sacrifice, perseverance and mateship - the character traits reflected in our King's Foundational Values.
Our College Captains, Judson Gainsford and Elizabeth Reeves, attended the Pimpama Ormeau ANZAC Day Service and laid a wreath on behalf of the college.
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other."

Empowering Tomorrow’s Stewards of the Sea
30 April 2024
Our Prep students embarked on an extraordinary journey into the depths of the ocean right from the confines of their classrooms. Welcoming Ocean Life Education, our young learners were treated to a mesmerising incursion that brought the wonders of marine life directly to their fingertips.
Our students were introduced to a fascinating array of sea creatures, each more enchanting than the last. Immersed in awe and wonder, our students delighted in the presence of seastars, sea urchins, and even a baby bamboo shark! The classroom was abuzz with excitement as these extraordinary creatures gracefully navigated their temporary terrestrial habitat, offering our young scholars a firsthand glimpse into their mysterious underwater realm.
At King’s, we believe in the power of experiential learning to ignite passion and foster stewardship. By bringing the wonders of the ocean directly into our classrooms, we empower our students to forge meaningful connections with the natural world and instill within them a sense of responsibility towards its preservation.

At King's, we believe in the power of hands-on learning to ignite curiosity and inspire a lifelong love for science. The "It's Rocket Science" incursion stands as a testament to our commitment to providing immersive educational experiences that empower our students to reach for new heights.
As our Year 4 students continue their educational journey, we remain steadfast in our dedication to fostering a spirit of inquiry, and innovation, equipping them with the tools they need to boldly shape the future of tomorrow.
Active School Travel Winners for April
1 May 2024
The Active School Travel program empowers schools to change how they move and become an active travel community for life.
We would like to congratulate 3PD for being the Active School Travel Class for two weeks in a row at the beginning of Term 2. Well done to 5PC for winning the class trophy in week 3.
Walking with friends to school and home again is fun and it helps the environment. If we increase our walking trips by 2500 is equivalent to walking nearly 6000km or around 140 marathons, or around 1400 hours of exercise.
Please remember that every Tuesday is Active School Travel Day. Walk, cycle, car-pool or catch the bus to school.
Active Travel Bag-Tag System
2 May 2024
We're excited to introduce a fun and engaging initiative aimed at promoting active travel to school – the Active Travel Bag-Tag System! Starting next Tuesday, 7 May, a staff member will be stationed at the back pedestrian entry (on Great Sandy Circuit) to stamp your child's bag-tag when they walk, bike, scooter, or carpool to school.
Here's how it works:
Every Tuesday: A staff member will stamp one slot on the bag-tag when students actively travel to school.
Prize Draw: At the end of the term, students who fill their bag-tag will be entered into a draw to win an exciting prize! Bus students will also automatically be entered into the draw.
Term Duration: Since we are already three weeks into the term, we will be drawing a prize in week 10 of this term.
We encourage you and your family to embrace active travel options such as park and stride from Gainsborough Parkland, using their bicycle or scooter, or taking turns carpooling with friends. Not only does active travel promote physical activity and reduce traffic congestion, but it also fosters a sense of community and environmental responsibility among our students.
School zones can be busy places, especially during the start and end of the school day—making them risky environments for both motorists and pedestrians. School zones are frequented by some of the most vulnerable members of the community, including children and their families.
Children do not always understand the dangers of roads and vehicles, so it is important for motorists to follow road safety rules and model correct road safety behaviour to protect children and teach them how to behave.
Pick-up and drop-off are the busiest times outside our school. When parking on school grounds or the roads and streets around school, and when moving through the drop-off and pick-up zone, take extra care. Always obey signed parking rules to provide a safer environment for children.
Join us for our Mother's Day event on Friday, May 10th, and seize the opportunity to embrace Active Travel to school! Walk to school with your child, enjoy quality time together, and kickstart your day with a healthy activity. So, let's lace up those shoes, dust off those bikes, and get ready to roll!

Missions
Teachers and Students Make a Difference in St George
30 April 2024
At the end of Term 1, 30 students and 6 staff went out to St. George for the 2024 mission trip. Over the course of five days, our group immersed themselves in various activities and services within the town.
Central to our mission was the cleaning of a house, a project that allowed us to witness firsthand the challenges faced by some members of society. Through our concerted efforts, we glimpsed the transformative potential of our actions and how our services were enough to change someone's life.
On Sunday, we hosted an Easter Service, where we had amazing speakers in both the adult and kid's services. The entire trip was an amazing experience, where we saw people getting baptised, including one from our own team, as well as witnessed the change in the lives of the people at St. George. It was such an honour and privilege to be involved in such an amazing trip, one that reaffirmed our commitment to making a positive impact in the world. Jacob Millar - Year 11 Student

Titans Development Cup: Round 2 vs Foxwell SHS
This year we have 8 senior students representing King’s Christian College in a combine school team with St Joseph’s College Coomera. They are participating in the Titans Development Cup and have been training once a week with St Joseph’s College throughout Term 1 to prepare for the competition.
This week our season kicked off against Foxwell State College in a tight affair. After a lengthy feeling-out period King’s/ St Joseph’s managed to gain the upper hand in the half. Slater Lively linked up with Kade Ibbotson cross over the line to open the scoring. This ended up being the only try of the game as the match was called off due to a player injury requiring medical attention.
Our Year 7/8 boys have been training hard twice a week in term 1 in the lead up to the Struddys Cup. This competition has 11 teams in the Year 8 division. Our first game was against Beaudesert SHS in Beaudesert. From the kickoff our boys put on a dominant display, with fast line speed, high completion rate, and strong defence. The attack came after our forwards straight running to gain metres and then the backs shifting the ball, slicing through the opposition's defensive lines.
