Exciting Visit from Emergency Services at Pre-Prep
27 August 2024
The Pre-Prep students at King's were treated to an extraordinary experience on Friday, 23 August with a visit from the Ormeau Rural Fire Brigade. The children had the opportunity to meet real-life firefighters and paramedics, bringing the excitement and importance of emergency services to life.
The visit took place at the large gravel carpark near the school's entrance, where the students eagerly gathered. They were divided into three groups, each rotating through different stations, providing a hands-on learning experience.
At the first station, the children were introduced to the Chief firefighter’s emergency vehicle and a buggy designed to navigate dense bush areas. The children were thrilled to hear the siren and even had the chance to climb inside the buggy.
Next, the students explored a large yellow fire truck, where they were given the opportunity to try on firefighting gear, spray the hoses, and sit inside the truck. This station was particularly popular, as the children were able to feel like real firefighters for the day.
The final station featured an ambulance, where the students were able to step inside, lie down on the gurney (which could be raised and lowered), and sit in a special chair. The paramedics explained the equipment and the importance of their work, making the experience both fun and educational.
As a special treat, all the children received stickers, a colouring-in book, and a ruler as souvenirs of their day. However, the excitement didn't end there; during the visit, the fire truck was unexpectedly called away to attend to an emergency, providing the children with a real-time example of the vital role these professionals play in the community.
This memorable visit offered the students a unique insight into the world of emergency services, fostering an appreciation for the bravery and dedication of those who protect and serve the community.

Early Childhood Educators Day Celebrated Nationally
3 September 2024
Early Childhood Educators’ Day is a special occasion to recognise and celebrate the incredible work of Australia’s Early Learning Educators. These dedicated professionals play a vital role in supporting the well-being, learning, and development of children during their early years.
This day provided an opportunity for everyone to express their gratitude to early childhood educators in a personal and meaningful way. We encouraged our community to stop by the reception area and write an encouraging note to our educators. This brought a smile to all the Early Learning Educators as they read the messages of love, gratitude and it showed them just how much they are valued.
At King's, we deeply appreciate our early childhood educators and the invaluable contributions they make to our community.
A big thank you to our educators for their hard work and commitment to nurturing our youngest learners!

Creative By Design - Inside Out
12 September 2024
Creative by Design (CBD) is one of the most anticipated times of the year for our Primary students! The last week of Term 3 was packed with incredible opportunities, providing a fun and inspiring environment for all. The aim of CBD is to help students uncover their unique gifts and passions through experiences across a wide range of curriculum areas. Many students and teachers alike describe it as their “favourite week of the year,” appreciating the adjusted schedule and vibrant focus on creativity.
The theme for this year is Inside Out and our students have had many creative explorations on the Bible theme from 1 Samuel 16:7 and their regular teaching program was replaced with daily chapels, guest speakers and WOW lessons.
This year’s festival fulfilled its promise to be just as memorable. We encourage you to continue to chat with your children about the highlights from the week during the school holidays. Some of the exciting events included a silent disco, BMX display by JC Epidemic, the Chappy Panel, competitions, glow-in-the-dark dance fun, and a grand finale with the Colour Run.

On Thursday, 22 August, our Primary School community, along with the students from Noah's Ark, enjoyed a fantastic Book Week dress-up day that was brimming with creativity and excitement.
Our classrooms were transformed into a vibrant and imaginative world, as hundreds of book characters sprang to life. It was a delightful sight to see students and teachers alike dressed up as some of their favourite literary legends, each with impressive costumes, realistic props, and clever acting skills that brought their chosen characters to life. The diversity of characters represented the rich tapestry of stories that fuel our imaginations.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the King's parents who dedicated so much time and effort into creating such remarkable costumes for their children. Your creativity and support helped make this day a truly unforgettable experience for every primary student.

Leap of Faith at Year 5 Camp
11 September 2024
This year camp was amazing!
We went to Camp Goodenough for three days and participated in a series of activities. There was the Leap of faith, Crate stack, High ropes, obstacle course and team pursuit. Each activity presented a different challenge, from strength to mental ability that pushed us beyond our boundaries.
The Leap of faith required us to climb up a 6m, 8m, 12m ladder with a harness on, this demanded a huge amount of mental and physical strength. With some strong encouragement from our supportive teacher, we felt that we could push our boundaries and go higher.
A big highlight of camp for everyone was devotions. After a long, fun day at camp we would learn about how to build our trust with God and spread his word by reading the Bible. Lots of people were blessed to have the opportunity to be prayed for by our chaplains and teachers.
Going on Year 5 camp is a must!

Activities like the possum glider and bushwalking provided opportunities to step out of comfort zones, while the wilderness explorers program fostered a deeper connection with nature. Through daily devotions, students reflected on what it means to be courageous with God, growing in independence and resilience. It was a camp full of adventure and personal growth!
Finlay Reddrop - "Gaga ball was a great game I learned at camp that I could play with all my friends."
Charlene Sapinoso - "I really liked the possum glide and rock climbing."
Ella-Mae Jongwe - “I loved doing the activity called possum glider. I was nervous at the start but felt proud at the end that I did it.”

Japanese Cultural Day Experience
11 September 2024
At the annual Year 8 Japanese Cultural Day, students experienced a day of learning that was rich and diverse in the traditions of Japan. Students were immersed in a variety of authentic cultural experiences—from the serene elegance of the Japanese tea ceremony and the artistic expression of calligraphy, to the dynamic rhythms of traditional drumming called Taiko. They unleashed their creativity with origami, learned the culinary art of sushi-making, and engaged in an Aikido session to explore the principles of self-defence. Each session gave the students a meaningful glimpse into the heart of Japanese culture.
Here are some comments from the students and what they enjoyed:
Farrah Mudamburi: The Japanese Cultural Day was a really nice, interesting experience. It gave us a sample of Japan’s culture and the activities they would do on a daily basis. I think I am very lucky to have been able to take part. My favourite activity was calligraphy, and it really was quite calming. I hope that I can continue to learn more about Japanese culture in the future.
Scott Millar: This has been an experience to remember in school as we got to make sushi, origami and much more. The staff were so friendly and were so happy to be there. I can’t believe that I was there to experience what they do in Japan and it was all amazing to see. What a way to end Term 3!
Anneliese Hardman: I really liked our Japanese Cultural Day. It’s interesting to participate in cultures we don’t come across usually. In particular, I enjoyed the tea ceremony as it was very detailed. Calligraphy, origami, aikido, taiko and sushi making were also great to experience and take part in.
Nathan Samuel: I thoroughly enjoyed Japanese Cultural Day, as we were introduced to the rich and extensive traditions of Japan. The highlight of my day was the Aikido session as the instructor taught us a variety of interesting self defence lessons and we were even able to train with wooden swords!
Abiel Sijin: My experience at the Japanese Cultural Day was really fun and interesting. A highlight for me was definitely the tea ceremony: I particularly found it interesting and enjoyed learning and taking part in it.
Aizelle Lim: I absolutely loved all the activities we did at the cultural day. I especially had so much fun with Japanese calligraphy as I found it interesting that one kanji character can have so much detail, despite it only representing one or two words. Likewise, I adored how simple practices and activities such as the tea ceremony and aikido can have so much deeper meaning behind it.
Creative Talent in Year 12 Experimental Short Film Project
3 September 2024
Year 12 student David Contador recently completed an impressive experimental short film project, titled Open Doors as part of his Film and TV assessment at King’s Christian College Pimpama. Tasked with planning and creating an experimental short film, David embarked on a creative journey that spanned the entire filmmaking process, from pre-production to post-production.
David shared that he spent a significant amount of time gaining inspiration by searching online for experimental short films. He chose to focus on this genre because of the unique opportunity it presented to explore unconventional storytelling techniques. “Our assessment task was to plan and create an experimental short film, so I looked for examples online to see what others had done. This helped me develop my own ideas for the project,” he explained.
The project required David to develop a thorough understanding of each stage of film production. Starting with pre-production, he crafted detailed treatments and scripts to outline his vision. Moving into production, he carefully selected a variety of settings and locations to evoke specific emotions and feelings unique to each scene. His choice of locations played a vital role in the storytelling, adding depth and character to his film.
In post-production, David focused heavily on editing, particularly on the audio side. “I found that I used lots of editing, both video and audio, but particularly on the audio side, to build and create tension for the audience,” he noted. His attention to detail in colour grading and sound design helped enhance the overall impact of the film, making it a compelling and immersive experience for viewers.
David's film was shown at a recent Middle School Honours Assembly.
David has been a dedicated student at King’s Christian College Pimpama since Year 5 (2017) and has consistently demonstrated a passion for the creative arts. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue further studies in Film and TV after a year of Bible College. We are excited to see where his talents and dedication take him in the future!
Congratulations to David on his outstanding work and creative achievements. We wish him all the best as he continues to explore his passion for filmmaking!
Exploring Melbourne: A Life-Changing Experience for Year 9 Students"
27 August 2024
The Year 9 trip to Melbourne was more than just an excursion—it was a journey of discovery and growth for all who attended. For two of our students, in particular, the experience was deeply impactful on every level. From exploring the vibrant culture and history of the city to engaging in thought-provoking discussions and activities, these students found their perspectives broadened and their hearts touched. Their stories reflect the profound effect the trip had, illustrating how powerful and life-changing such experiences can be.
From Josh Hambleton
Melbourne provided us with a wide range of opportunities and exciting experiences as we explored its vibrant city streets. I think everyone would agree that the camp was fantastic. On Day One, we woke up to a dark sky and headed to the airport, taking off just as the sun began to rise. Once we landed in Melbourne, we jumped right into the day’s activities, starting with a visit to the Victorian markets. It was an incredible experience, filled with interesting sights and delicious food. We ended the day with an inspiring evening at Planet Shakers church, where we enjoyed a powerful message and meaningful ministry time.
Energised for Day Two, we began our morning by heading to SkyPoint. After an hour of free time, we ascended the tower and stepped into the glass box, which was both thrilling and, as most would agree, a bit nerve-wracking. Next, we explored Melbourne in a unique way through the Virtual Reality room, which was an incredible experience. Our day was full of adventure, including a visit to Graffiti Lane, where we admired the intricate street art. We also had the chance to visit a stunning cathedral, an architectural marvel that left us in awe. To cap off the day, we participated in a special devotional session organised just for us by Planet Shakers, which was truly a blessing.
Day Three was off to a good start, despite the rainy weather. We began at the DFO, where we enjoyed two hours of free time exploring the extensive shopping centre. After that, we made our way through Melbourne to the Shrine of Remembrance, which was truly impressive. We tried on military uniforms and gained new insights into history. That evening, we had our final devotional, which everyone enjoyed as the Holy Spirit moved powerfully among us.
The final day brought mixed emotions, as we were excited to return home but also sad that our time in Melbourne was coming to an end. We started the day at the beach, where we enjoyed clear skies, calm waters, and great food. From there, we visited the Holocaust Museum, where we learned a lot and had the incredible opportunity to meet a survivor. We concluded our trip by heading to the airport, taking home valuable lessons and cherished memories. It was an amazing trip, and I would love to do it again.
From Arik Mosterd
The Year 9 Camp trip to Melbourne was a life-changing experience, filled with memorable activities and strong bonds formed over the four days. One of the highlights for me was the devotions; the preachers were incredibly enriching and helped deepen my faith in Jesus. The flights were also a great chance to connect with others.
Visiting the markets gave us a taste of Melbourne's diverse food culture and set the tone for the rest of the trip. At the National Gallery of Victoria, we explored Australian history through both British and Aboriginal perspectives, gaining insights that went beyond what textbooks offer.
The visit to the Shrine of Remembrance was especially impactful. The rainy day added to the solemn atmosphere as we honored the sacrifices made in wars around the world. Trying on real military artifacts gave us a glimpse into the hardships soldiers faced.
On our final day, we enjoyed a brief visit to St. Kilda Beach and a quick stop at Maccas before heading to the Holocaust Museum. Meeting Judy, a Holocaust survivor, was deeply moving. Despite the tragic history, her ability to smile and laugh taught us that forgiveness is possible, no matter the circumstances.
On behalf of Year 9, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the teachers, tour guides, bus drivers, and everyone who invested their time to make this trip so unforgettable.

It was a wonderful event that celebrated both health and kindness, leaving everyone with smiles and a sense of accomplishment! Congratulations to all the students who won a prize in the raffle draw.
Spring Fair 2024: A Day of Fun and Festivities!

Spring Fair 2024 was a huge success. Thanks to the wonderful weather and an array of awesome activities that kept everyone entertained throughout the day. The event was filled with excitement, laughter, and joy as our community came together to celebrate.
The fair featured a fantastic lineup of attractions, including a thrilling climbing wall, the popular round-up ride, laser skirmish, VR games, go carts, 3v3 basketball competition, the big slide, jumping castles and sideshow alley always. The trackless train and petting zoo was a big hit with our younger children, providing endless rides and smiles while our older students participated in the 100% HOPE 25 hour cycle challenge. Many children had fun soaking their favourite teacher at the Super Soaker too.
The marketta stalls added a vibrant touch to the event, offering a variety of unique items and treats. The Under 8s Day activities, face painting, and the new cent auction were also crowd favourites, adding extra fun and excitement to the fair. R U OK? Day at King’s Pimpama: A Week of Raising Awareness and Connecting!
10 September 2024
This term, King’s Pimpama embraced R U OK? Day by hosting a variety of activities for both students and staff throughout Week 8. R U OK? Day is an important initiative that encourages people to slow down, check in on friends, family, or colleagues, and offer support to those who may be struggling. It’s a day that promotes meaningful conversations and helps equip everyone with the skills to ask the simple but powerful question, “Are you OK?”
At King’s Pimpama, we used this opportunity to teach students how to engage in thoughtful conversations, practice good communication, and learn about the organisations that provide help when needed. It’s a valuable reminder for everyone in our community to take care of each other and ensure that no one faces challenges alone.
In Primary, all students took part in a colouring-in competition designed to teach the four key steps of checking in on a friend and starting a conversation. It was a fun way to introduce younger students to these important life skills while fostering an environment of care and kindness. To make the week even more enjoyable, the Student Wellbeing Team organised engaging lunchtime activities such as giant parachute games, building blocks, and board games, all with the goal of raising awareness for R U OK? Day.
High school students participated in a range of activities as well. A highlight was the teachers versus students touch football match, which brought friendly competition to the forefront. Students also enjoyed a sausage sizzle and relaxed in a designated “chill zone” near the canteen, where R U OK? Day videos and mental health content were played throughout the week. These videos shared practical strategies for maintaining a healthy mindset and highlighted the importance of checking in on peers.
The week of awareness concluded with both students and staff showing their support by wearing yellow accessories, symbolizing hope and encouragement.
At King’s Pimpama, we’re committed to making R U OK? Day not just a day, but an ongoing conversation that strengthens our community and promotes mental wellbeing. Together, we can create a supportive environment where everyone feels heard and valued.
Day of Hope: A Celebration of Generosity and Compassion
3 September 2024
Wednesday, 28 August, was a remarkable day at our school as we celebrated the Day of Hope in support of 100% HOPE. The entire school community, from Noah's Ark through to High School, came together, dressed in vibrant blue and pink—the colours of 100% HOPE—to show solidarity and support for this meaningful cause.
The day was filled with excitement and purpose. Our Primary and Prep students started the day with special 100% HOPE-themed chapel services, where they learned about the importance of hope and helping others from Chappie Hannah and year 6 student Suzanna Lopez. Meanwhile, our Primary, High School students, and staff participated in a delightful fundraiser, purchasing delicious krispy kreme donuts to contribute to 100% HOPE.
The high school began a new initiative called 100 hours of HOPE where over 130 Kings staff and high school students participated in cycling for a total of 100 hours to raise awareness of this incredible charity. Sponsorships were also welcomed which gave our wider community the opportunity to give towards the cause. The event launched during school time, going through the night and finishing at Spring Fair.
The atmosphere of the day was one of unity, joy, and compassion as we all joined forces to support 100% HOPE in its mission to build a second boys' home. In total the school raised $7000. It was truly a beautiful celebration of our school’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
In addition to fundraising, each of our primary classes have been buddied up with a student from Hope International Christian School to write letters to them to build a more meaningful relationship with the charity organisation.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who dressed up, participated, and donated generously. Your contributions will go a long way in bringing hope and joy to many. Together, we have shown the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together for a great cause.
Thank you for being a part of this wonderful celebration!

From Novice to State Competitor: Ivy's Cross Country Journey
3 September 2024
Last year, inspired by watching my brother run, I decided to take up running for the first time. Although I had never run competitively before, I was determined to train hard for the Cross Country season.
My efforts paid off when I came first at the District Cross Country, and then I placed second at the Regional Cross Country. These achievements qualified me for the State Championships, where I proudly represented the South Coast team. Competing at St. Paul's in Brisbane was an incredible experience, filled with excitement, new friendships, and lots of fun. I can't wait to see how I perform next year!

Veterinary program launches, first course announced for 2025:
Spurred by the chronic shortage of veterinary professionals in Australia and particularly in regional areas, Southern Cross University is launching two new Veterinary courses. The first degree to be offered will be a three-year Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, delivered at the Northern Rivers campus for the first time in 2025. Veterinary Technologists play a crucial role in the field of veterinary medicine, akin to frontline primary health care workers for humans.
