Year 12 Final Assembly and Tree Planting Ceremony: A Landmark Moment
8 October 2024
On a momentous day for our school community and especially our graduating students, the final Year 12 assembly took place, marking this special occasion of our inaugural cohort. This memorable event began with a warm Welcome to Country delivered by Zara Cooney, followed by College Captains, Elizabeth Reeves and Judson Gainfort, extending a heartfelt welcome to our distinguished guests.
The Chapel Band, supported by the audience, led a soul-stirring rendition of Cornerstone, setting the tone for the occasion. Following this, Culture Captains, Ayla Garaty shared a scripture reading from John 15:4-8, reminding us of the importance of connection and growth while David Contador opened the service in prayer.
Executive Principal Mr Rees Davis delivered an insightful address, highlighting the power of teamwork, being diligent and faithful, foundational values that are central in every King's students' journey. In his speech, College Principal Mr Rob Verryenne honoured this year’s graduates as the "Year of the Cornerstone," applauding their resilience and leadership throughout their time at the school and that those following behind them will make decisions based on what this cohort put into practice.
During the Honours Assembly, it was a privilege to present a number of final Honours awards as well as celebrating our students who have completed Diploma or Certificate (VET) courses while studying at King's.
In recognition of the academic achievements of the Year 12 students, Mr Bobby Longtime proudly announced the Academic Honours, celebrating the discipline and dedication that has marked this historic year. Mrs Pepeita Hamilton and Mr Ralf de la Mare announced the Performing Arts and Cultural Honour recipients while Miss Sally-Ann Martin congratulated the students who were recognised for their VET Certificates which were combined with their academic studies. This achievement reflects their hard work, dedication and hands-on learning across various fields, equipping them with valuable skills for future careers and pathways.
After the formalities, the day concluded with a tree planting ceremony—a symbolic act to commemorate the journey of these young men and women as they take root and grow in their next chapter. This tree will stand as a testament to their legacy and the bright future ahead.
This was not just a farewell; it was a celebration of all that has been accomplished and the exciting paths that await our Year 12 graduates.
Unforgettable Adventure at K'gari: Fishing, Fun, and Heartfelt Moments with Students and Teachers
8 October 2024
During the final week of Term 3, a group of 12 boys and 5 teachers left at 4:30 am to head to K’gari island for the week. Once there, we drove to Lake Wabby, where, after a half hour walk, we arrived at the massive sand dunes, followed by the small lake that resided at the bottom. The trip consisted of a lot of fishing, with Tuesday racking up a total of over 130 fish collectively, and Wednesday being just as much with over 100 fish. Following this, we also travelled to Lake Mckenzie, where we spent most of our morning and lunch, playing cricket, boarding, and just having a great time with each other.
Coming up to the final days of our trip, unbeknownst to us, we all received letters from teachers and parents, which was a heartfelt moment for each of us as we got a glimpse of what people wanted to say to us. This trip was an amazing experience, where students and teachers alike bonded a lot more and provided a much more personal experience with the small group.

A Journey to Remember – The Noosa Girls Trip
19 September 2024
At the end of term three, twelve Year 9 girls' and four college staff recently attended an unforgettable four-day camp at Noosa Heads, designed to foster personal growth, strengthen their faith, and encourage them to step outside their comfort zones. Throughout the trip, the girls embraced new challenges, taking part in activities such as hiking, mountain biking, surfing, and kayaking on the stunning Noosa Everglades. Each activity tested their resilience, teamwork, and courage, while also giving them opportunities to experience the simplicity and beauty of the outdoors. In the evenings, the girls gathered for devotions led by the college staff, where they shared and reflected on their own personal experiences associated with their faith journey. These moments provided a special time to connect spiritually, support one another, and grow in their relationship with God. The Noosa girls camp was a powerful experience for all involved, leaving the girls and staff inspired, refreshed, and more confident in their abilities and faith.
Student, Kate Duckworth, recounts her memories:
The Year 9 - 10 Noosa Girls Trip is a journey filled with excitement, bonding, and unforgettable moments. The group embarked on an adventure packed with activities that brought them closer not only to nature but also to each other. From hiking up Mount Ngungun to catching waves while surfing, there was never a dull moment.
One of the most powerful moments was on the first day when they climbed Mount Ngungun. Reaching the summit wasn’t easy, but the support from the other girls made it all worth it.
"As we all stood at the top, there was cheering, hugs, and a shared sense of accomplishment. It was a beautiful reminder that we are never truly alone—no matter how tough the journey, we were always there for one another, " said Kate Duckworth, Year 10 student.
The Noosa Girls Trip wasn’t just about activities; it was also about moments of reflection and bonding during the quiet nights around the campfire, where we held devotions and shared stories under the stars. The whole experience felt like a perfect balance of adventure, fun, and deep connection.
"My favourite activity was the surfing. It was nice watching everyone catch a few waves either with a helping hand from our instructors, or positioning and getting up by themselves. I also enjoyed getting to know my fellow Year 9 friends more personally. I usually see these girls around school and never speak to them, but during this trip, we could tell things about ourselves, as well as play games on the beach together," stated Kate.
If anyone asked me whether they should join the Noosa Girls Trip next year, I wouldn’t hesitate to answer with a resounding "yes." It was a trip I will never forget, and one I would recommend to any Year 9 or 10 girl looking for adventure, friendship, and personal growth. Kate Duckworth - Year 10 student

We are thrilled to share the exciting news of Jamie Yoon's recent participation in the 6th Australian Open 2024, held on September 24-25 at the prestigious Links Hope Island Golf Club. This two-day tournament, organised by U.S. Kids Golf, is one of Australia's most anticipated junior golf events, along with the Australian Masters and the Australian Challenge.
Jamie, who has been competing in the U.S. Kids local tour in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast for nearly a year, participated in the Group Age 6 & Under category. This competition marked a significant milestone, as it was Jamie's last tournament as a 6-year-old.

Building a Boating Career
9 October 2024
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to combine your passions into a career? For one of our talented Year 12 students, Lacey Keeley, who has been gaining her apprenticeship while doing her senior studies, boatbuilding was the perfect way to merge a love for boats with a passion for hands-on construction.
"I’ve always been interested in boats and building things, so boatbuilding just made sense," Lacey explained.
Currently working in the Fit Out One department at Riviera, Lacey reports her to her crew leader, Bailey, and Kiera, the apprentice manager at Riviera. With a unique training approach, Riviera runs its own TAFE school, allowing students to pursue the course on-site.
The TAFE Queensland Coomera Marine campus offers a range of specialised training for the marine industry, including marine craft construction. They have industry-standard facilities with the latest marine equipment, large warehouse style workshops, classrooms fitted out with computers and e-learning facilities, and student common areas.
When asked about what Lacey enjoys most about boatbuilding, she said, "It’s the hands-on work. I also get to learn a little bit of plumbing, which I find really interesting." Boatbuilding involves a variety of skills, from fibre glassing to woodworking, with some plumbing thrown into the mix.
One of the highlights of her apprenticeship so far has been the experience at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in May. "It was so much fun! I made some great friendships, and we all still catch up on Fridays."
Looking ahead, the future is being taken one step at a time for Lacey. "I haven’t thought too much about where I’ll be in five years. I’m just doing things day-by-day," Lacey said.
Finally, when asked if she would recommend this kind of hands-on training to other students, the response was an enthusiastic, "Definitely! This is a great way to study while still at school. There’s still a bit of theory, but Riviera makes it as practical as possible."
For those who thrive on hands-on learning and enjoy practical challenges, a boatbuilding apprenticeship might just be the perfect fit!

New and Improved Translink Bus Services in Pimpama
1 October 2024
New Bus Routes are LIVE!
Councillor Mark Hammel has updated us with the latest stage of the Northern Gold Coast bus improvement initiative. This has been a joint investment of $8 million each from the City and the State Government, to total $16 million. This investment will improve our bus network frequency and introduce the first ever bus trial out to Jacobs Well.
The new routes will operate on a trial basis until June 2026. Make sure you get on and try them out!
See below for some more details on the new proposed routes, frequency of service and more.
New Route - 732 from Coomera City to Pimpama City
This new route, commenced during the September school holidays and will run seven days a week, with weekday trips from 6am to 7pm. Weekend trips will be delivered from 7am to 6pm. This route will be popular for connecting friends and family in these neighbouring suburbs and getting to and from the local shops.
New Route - 733 from Ormeau to Jacobs Well via Pimpama City
See the map below of the route:
This route also commenced during the September school holidays and runs from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and 7am to 6pm on weekends. This daily bus service out to Jacobs Well and Pimpama City links via the Ormeau station and comes past our school enroute to Pimpama City.
Other Improvements
As well as the two new routes, there are upgraded timetables for routes 722, 724, 728 and 729, to bring you better service frequency, extended hours, and more reliable journey times. To make your trip quicker, some of the routes have been tweaked to avoid congestion.
Mr Hammel also mentioned that the City Council has also built 36 new bus stops, to make it easier for you to get around your neighbourhood or connect with other services at Coomera or Ormeau station.
