On Friday, 2nd June, King's Upper Primary community gathered for a special Honours assembly dedicated to presenting our Years 3 - 6 Foundational Values and Worship Warrior awards for Semester One, 2023.
The Foundational Values Award acknowledges the exceptional character displayed by our recipients throughout the past semester. They recognise our students who consistently put King’s Foundational Values into action, serving as role models for their peers and contributing positively to the school community. These students outwork our College culture as they continually Live Purposefully, Love Faithfully, Learn Passionately and Lead Diligently. The Worship Warrior Award is an accolade that recognises students who exemplify King's Christian culture and who showcase an unwavering dedication to their spiritual growth. Our Worship Warriors consistently demonstrate a personal commitment to deepening their Christian journey, inspiring others with their devotion and reverence.
The assembly was made even more special by the presence of the recipients' parents and families. Seeing their support and encouragement was a testament to the strong partnership between our school and families. Thank you all for attending! As we recognise and celebrate these exceptional young people, we also reflect on King’s ongoing commitment to fostering a learning environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential - academically, socially and spiritually. Congratulations to all the award recipients on your remarkable achievements!
Our Year 6 students welcomed parents into their classrooms on Friday, 9 June, for an extraordinary culmination event called the ‘Living Museum Timeline.’ Through their interactive exhibits and creative costumes, our students transported their audience back in time to explore the different decades and some notable figures from Australia's history. The event highlighted the students' enthusiasm for learning and fostered a deeper appreciation for the contributions of past generations in shaping our nation's present prosperity and harmony.
The Living Museum Timeline was an innovative approach to history education that helped our Year 6s delve into the achievements of significant individuals and periods in history that have influenced our country's development. Each student became an ‘expert’ on their nominated era and enjoyed the chance to bring characters from their decade to life with costumes and props. The Living Museum Timeline event instilled a sense of connectedness to our past and encouraged our students to carry forward the values and aspirations of those who shaped Australia's history. Well done students for embracing this topic and culmination showcase with such enthusiasm and excellence!
Year 5 Students Embrace Environmental Education
5 June 2023
This term, the Year 5 students embarked on an immersive learning journey, diving into the fascinating world of biomes with a focus on grasslands, wetlands, forests, deserts, arctic regions, and oceans. To enhance the learning experience, each Year 5 classroom was transformed into a specific biome. The vibrant decorations created an engaging environment that sparked curiosity and imagination. In their smaller table groups, students were assigned a particular biome to focus on for their integrated studies tasks throughout the term.
The culmination of their efforts was a special event where students had the chance to showcase their learning and share their findings with parents. Classrooms became lively exhibition spaces, with each group presenting their biome in creative and informative ways. From colourful posters and dioramas to multimedia presentations and interactive displays, students demonstrated their understanding with confidence as parents marvelled at the depth of knowledge their children had acquired. But the learning didn't stop there... later in the day, the Year 5s took on the role of mentors as they welcomed the Prep students into their transformed classrooms. With great leadership, patience, and enthusiasm, the older students guided their younger peers through a range of interactive activities they had designed to teach them about the various biomes. The activities were as diverse as the biomes themselves, with Kahoot quizzes, colouring sessions, craft activities and even biome-inspired dances. By involving the Prep students, they not only reinforced their own understanding but also fostered a sense of environmental stewardship in the younger generation. The Biome Exhibition and interactive sessions were a resounding success, showcasing the incredible growth and learning of the Year 5 students. Immersive learning experiences, like these, form part of our curriculum at King’s as we engage our students in a range of real-world tasks to help embed valuable knowledge and skills.
Prep Students Showcase Wonders of the Marine World
8 June 2023
In an exciting display of creativity, our Prep students transported their peers and teachers into the enchanting realm of the underwater world that they have been studying this term. Armed with their newfound knowledge of the ocean and the creatures residing within it, our budding marine enthusiasts recreated miniature habitats to capture the essence of the marine world.
On Wednesday, 7 June, they exhibited their dioramas for their audience of Noah’s Ark students, as well as Mrs Whiting and Mrs Payne, our Head of Primary. As the visitors explored their displays, our Prep students eagerly shared their knowledge about the different marine creatures and their habitats, and the importance of protecting our sealife. The underwater dioramas were a culmination of the Prep students' integrated lessons this term, and the interdisciplinary approach to learning really helped grow their research skills and understanding of the ocean, while honing their artistic skills and fostering a well-rounded educational experience.
Spanish Dance Troupe Shines in Vibrant Show
8 June 2023
On Wednesday, 7 June, the Year 5 and 6 Girls' Spanish Dance Club took centre stage in the Auditorium, captivating their peers and parents with a vibrant demonstration of their newly-acquired skills. The girls had been eagerly learning the art of the 'Salsa' dance every Wednesday during their second break since the start of the year, and their hard work was evident during the spectacular show. For many of our young dancers, it was their first time performing on stage in front of an audience, and they displayed King’s Values of courage and perseverance.
As the music began, the girls gracefully moved across the stage, executing the complex steps of Salsa. Their coordination and enthusiasm was truly commendable. Following their performance, Mrs Savvides had a surprise in store for everyone. She invited teachers and parents on stage for a mini salsa lesson and the room was filled with excitement and laughter as the volunteer dancers moved to the latin music.
The Year 5 and 6 Girls' Spanish Dance Club demonstrated not only their commitment to learning but also their ability to bring people together through the universal language of dance. The girls should be commended for their performance and enthusiasm and courage they showed that served as an inspiration to their peers and parents alike. It was a truly memorable morning, filled with laughter, music, and the joy of dancing.
"Thank you to all the girls who have been part of this dance group, as it's been a delight to teach you!"
- Mrs Savvides, Spanish Teacher
Breaktimes are Buzzing with Countless Clubs at King’s
2 June 2023
Breaktimes in Primary are anything but boring at King’s. As the bell rings and classes pause, the campus comes alive with a plethora of activities for students to choose from. From the Lower Primary to the Upper Primary, there is something for everyone to enjoy during our breaks each day. In the Lower Primary, the Year 6 Peacekeeping students have shown great leadership and initiative to ensure their younger Primary peers have a memorable break. They organise a wide range of activities that cater to diverse interests and include skipping, board games, ten-pin bowling, colouring, handball, Just Dance, obstacle courses, chess, and running races.
In Upper Primary, our teachers have also gone the extra mile to create an exciting break experience. They have introduced various clubs that cater to specific interests and students are welcome to join the Marble Run club, where they can design and build intricate structures for marbles to navigate through; Or there’s the Chill Zone which provides a space to unwind and recharge; The Just Dance and Drawing Clubs that help students express their creativity through movement and art. For sports enthusiasts, there are options like Basketball Club and Running Club, encouraging physical activity and healthy competition. The 3D Design Club offers students the chance to explore the world of three-dimensional design and create their own models. Additionally, the Spanish Dancing club adds a touch of cultural diversity to the break activities, allowing students to learn and appreciate different dance styles. There are also gender-specific activities and prayer groups which are thriving too, as they provide a space for students to connect with peers who share similar interests and experiences to help promote positive social interactions.
In addition to the organised clubs, our Chaplains have been actively involved in organising ‘Chappy Challenges.’ These games foster teamwork, problem-solving, and friendly competition among students. The Chappies' dedication and enthusiasm contribute to creating a vibrant and inclusive break environment where students can build relationships and have fun. Breaktimes at King's have become much more than just a pause between lessons. They have evolved into opportunities for students to explore their passions, develop new skills, grow friendships and engage in meaningful activities.

Years 11 & 12 Honours Assembly
30 May 2023
On Tuesday, 30 May, our Years 11 and 12 students came together in the presence of recipients' parents, peers and teachers for a special Honours Assembly. These events are held twice a year to present our high-achieving students with their Honours awards, and this assembly awarded achievements in the area of academic success, based on our Honours criteria. At the end of this assembly, Mr Vallance, our Head of High School, was very pleased to present a group of students with their Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology. King's has held a longstanding 14-year partnership with HOPE College to enable students the opportunity to complete this Certificate across their senior years. The late Dr Geoff Barnes was a driving force in setting up and maintaining this initiative, and he would have been extremely proud to witness the last cohort of students complete the program. The partnership concluded at the end of 2022 and King's honoured and recognised HOPE College for their valued support and dedication in running this course. Well done to our 13 students who completed the three years of work in two years, to be able to attain their full Certificate III.
These awards were from students' successful endeavours in Semester 2, 2022. Congratulations to all recipients for your continued dedication to excellence!

King's Record-Breaking APS Season
2 June 2023
King’s has just wrapped up another sterling season of APS sport among the group of eight Associated Private Schools across the Gold Coast. Over the past two terms, our talented teams have practised and competed in a range of sports each week, striving for success and the ultimate prize of the Premiership trophy. The dedication and hard work of our students and coaches certainly paid off, and saw 44 King's teams emerging as Premiership finalists.
The Grand Final matches last week provoked excitement from the crowds and showed the skill of our athletes, who demonstrated their ability to perform under pressure. With all results now in, King's is excited to announce that we have set a new APS record by winning an impressive 36 premierships out of a possible 75, including the coveted First XV Rugby title. This remarkable achievement sets a new benchmark for the APS competition, with King’s claiming a 48% share of all possible premierships.
We acknowledge the efforts of our partnering APS schools, who also gave their best throughout the season. Our closest competitor this season was Somerset College, who gained a commendable 17% of the premierships, while All Saints earned 16%. The competitive nature of this longstanding competition pushed all schools to strive for excellence and resulted in some breathtaking sporting moments.
The APS program forms a valuable part of school life at King’s, and we know our students finish each season with greater teamwork skills, discipline, and resilience. As we conclude another remarkable APS sports season, our King's community can look back with a sense of accomplishment. Congratulations to all of our athletes, coaches, parents and supporters who have played a part in this extraordinary season. We look ahead with anticipation to all that APS Season Two has in store!

King's Launches Microsite Showcasing Campus Development Projects
7 June 2023
King's has recently launched an innovative new microsite to showcase our ongoing Campus Development projects. The interactive platform offers current and prospective families an opportunity to explore the transformative changes taking place across King’s three campuses for the benefit of our students. The microsite provides a comprehensive overview of our Master Plan and building program at each campus, with details of our proposed, in-progress and recently completed construction projects. Our goal is to keep our community informed with the latest developments, architectural plans and expected completion timeframes to ensure you are the first to know what is happening at your campus.
Since King’s opened our first Reedy Creek classroom in 1982, until now, we have invested in the continual improvement and growth of our school. Our focus has remained fixed on our founding vision of providing an exceptional educational experience in a Christian-centred environment. The microsite delves deeper into our strategic priorities of innovation, excellence and Christian leadership and how these are embedded into our development program. As King’s continues to invest in the ongoing improvement of our facilities, students and families can be assured of enjoying the best possible learning experience at King's, both now and in the future.
King's hosted a heartwarming 20 Year Reunion for the Class of 2003 on Saturday, 27 May. This special occasion brought together 20 King's alumni who had graduated two decades ago, giving them the chance to reminisce, reconnect and explore the campus transformations that have taken place since their departure. Among the special guests were graduates Jacob Cooke - who travelled from Rockhampton especially to attend the event - and Michael Easton - a member of the Class of 2003 who now serves as a High School Teacher at King's. Our alumni were also pleased to reconnect with some staff members who helped shape their educational journey at King’s, including their Dean of Studies, Mr Ruben, and their past teachers, Mr Roberts and Mr Giovas.
The event commenced with a tour of the campus, where our graduates experienced the nostalgia of walking through old hallways, contrasted with the thrill of seeing the extensions that have improved the campus and made room for its student growth. Following the tour, alumni headed to Mad Asian in Robina for a tasty lunch. The relaxed setting helped them all engage in heartfelt conversations, share stories from their school days and catch up on each other's lives.
Following the reunion, Tamara Briggs, expressed her gratitude to the College for the event. She conveyed her appreciation for the chance to reconnect with fellow classmates and reminisce about their shared experiences at King's. Her sentiments were echoed by the entire gathering, who thoroughly enjoyed the reunion and acknowledged the school's efforts in organising such a memorable occasion.
"Thank you, alumni - you all remain such a valued part of our College community and of the rich history of our school."

Performing Arts
You're Invited to The Trilogy Projects
7 June 2023
King's Performing Arts Department proudly presents three inaugural performance plays devised by students and exploring some contemporary multi-generational issues facing our community. The premiere of these exciting performances will be held over two shows only on Thursday, 13 and Friday, 14 July from 6.30pm in the Auditorium. We invite King's family and friends to this unmissable innovative experience of never-seen-before theatre!
Featuring These Three One-Act Plays:
'Ride Ricardo Ride' - Our Junior (Years 7 & 8) show was developed from the picture book of the same name by Phil Cummings. Sypnosis: During World War 2, a young Italian boy learns resilience and how to honour the lessons his father has taught him in a sensitive and moving exploration of parent-child relationships.
'Then Now Next' - Our Intermediate (Years 9 & 10) show is a verbatim piece using stories from our community. Students have interviewed, questioned, improvised, interrogated and experimented around the intergenerational connections between Gen X and Gen Z. What could they possibly have in common?
'Legacy' - Our Senior (Years 11 & 12) show is a Visual Theatre piece exploring the Theseus and Ariadne story from Ancient Greece and what it might reveal to our current culture and society. Can a person be a hero and a monster? Does the end justify the means? And what about the collateral damage?
Food and beverage trucks will be on-site to provide snacks and basic meals between the plays, plus other fun activities involving audience awards for choosing their favourite moments and performers. Plenty for all the family to enjoy! Tickets cost $10 - $15 and can be purchased via the link below:
