View all 2024 Term Dates View Compass CalendarLast week, King's inaugural Trilogy Projects were performed to a full auditorium of family and friends over two captivating nights. These performances culminated six months' work for our Year 7 - 12 students who wrote and performed new and original theatrical works for our school community. And now, from this performance season, we are excited to take each show to the Gold Coast Secondary Schools Drama Fest (GCSSDF) to compete against other high schools in our region.
Thanks also to all our parents and families who supported the students throughout the process and for attending these very special performances. We’re so grateful for all the ‘little’ things you do to allow your child to participate in these memorable events.
We must also thank our industry partners: Helen Stephens from Dead Puppet Society, Hayden and Sam from Shock Therapy Arts, and David Burton, an internationally renowned Verbatim playwright and dramaturg who all worked with our various ensembles to give them extraordinary skills and insights into devising, refining, curating and polishing script content before then rehearsing and staging theatrical works. Without a doubt, our students will have fond memories of these experiences and activities for many years to come and can now build upon these lessons within our Drama curriculum as well.
READ THE STORIES BEHIND OUR TRILOGY PROJECTSKing's Pimpama campus hosted our College's annual Artist in Residence intercampus strings workshop on Monday, 10 July. This event brought together 81 talented student musicians from across our three campuses who all enjoyed learning from internationally-acclaimed composer and conductor, Soon Hee Newbold. Soon is best known for her exceptional skills as a composer and conductor and has been recognised worldwide for her contributions to the music industry. Her musical journey began at the age of 5 when she started learning the piano. Over the decades, Soon has graced the stage as a concert artist and composer, performing with professional ensembles across the globe.
King's Artist in Residence program gives our students a unique opportunity to learn from renowned musicians and this exposure to world-class talent develops their musical skills but also instils a greater aspiration. By inviting accomplished artists like Soon Hee Newbold, the program helps students explore different perspectives on their playing and performance abilities. King's Strings Music Teacher, Mr Chislett, expressed his appreciation for the program and its significant role in broadening our students’ musical understanding and performance skills:
On Saturday, 15 July, Mrs Ellia Davis took her team of talented King's dancers to the Dance Exchange Regional Competition, leaving the judges in awe of their remarkable performances. The hard work and dedication of the group paid off, with all entries making it through to the Queensland State Finals!
In the Junior Jazz Audition Experience, Sammie Penman wowed the judges, securing 1st place, while Caitlynn Verster earned a commendable 3rd place. Continuing their success in the Junior Lyrical Audition Experience, Sammie claimed 5th place and Caitlynn maintained her position in the top ranks with a strong 4th place overall. Our Junior Hip Hop dance class took home a respectable 3rd place, solidifying their place among the region's best hip-hop performers. In the Senior Jazz and Lyrical Audition Experience, Charlotte Gloster earned herself a wildcard entry, highlighting her exceptional abilities as a dancer. In the Junior Solo category, Nisha Hanson's faultless performance earned her 1st place, while Caitlynn excelled again to receive the 'wildcard' spot. Sammie and Kahlyiah Clarke-Teika showcased incredible skill and synchronicity in their Junior Duo performance, earning a well-deserved 4th place.
The dancers, Mrs Davis, and their supporters were elated with the outstanding results, anticipating the upcoming QLD State Finals with excitement and determination. With such extraordinary talent, the future of dance looks exceptionally promising for these gifted performing artists.
Well done to the entire Year 9 Dance Team:

King's 2023 Day of Hope transformed our Term 3 fundraising event into a fun-filled festival of giving. Our school celebrated our multicultural community throughout the day as we united to support 100% hOPE and raise over $10,000 for the incredible charity. 100% hOPE is making a profound impact in the lives of underprivileged children in Uganda and their ongoing efforts resulted in the newly-completed Hope Village in Uganda. This Village houses orphaned children, features a medical clinic, primary, secondary, and vocational training schools, and implements self-sustainable projects for local communities.
Our College community embraced our Day of Hope by enthusiastically donating to the cause, purchasing from our LIFE Canteen, and enjoying cultural concerts by our talented Samoan, Tongan, Maori, Spanish and Chinese students in the Amphitheatre. At King's, we embody our Foundational Values, showing love and compassion to those in need, and through initiatives like the Day of Hope, we can make a lasting difference. Thank you to the LIFE team for your hard work in making our fundraising events possible; and to our King's families for your unwavering generosity that brings hope to those who need it most. Together, we can positively impact the world.
Our annual King's Golf Day was a sold-out event involving 120 players at The Club at Parkwood on Monday, 19 June. The golfers and teams varied in ages and skill levels, including our youngest player this year from Prep. All participants showcased sportsmanship and King's strong community spirit to enjoy a remarkable day of fun and friendly competition. Prizes included $2,500 of JB Hifi vouchers and prizes, golf bags, Springbok Food hampers, Calloway sports pack, rounds of golf, mini golf and Topgolf Swing Suite vouchers from The Club at Parkwood, as well as a Nespresso machine from King's Pimpama P&F. King's exclusive use of the immaculate course made the day even more enjoyable and the perfect weather added to the vibrant mood on the green. Before teams teed off in the morning sun, they were treated to bacon and egg rolls and then briefed by the Club.
Players jumped into their golf buggies for 18 holes of friendly, yet serious, game of golf based on the Ambrose format. Competition was high among many of the King's staff from the various campuses, as well as parents and businessmen who have supported the event since its inception three years ago. The title for the best-dressed team was won once again by team Who's Your Caddy (Kylie Fitzgerald, Allegra and Carter Hayden, from Year 12 at Reedy Creek, and Shonel Alloway) who 'rode' onto the greens as cowboys and cowgirls and also took home top honours, claiming first team prize with an Ambrose score of 44.
The Longest Drive on the 18th Hole was awarded to Tim Johnson and Nearest the Pins for holes 7, 11 and 16 went to Hayden Thurtel, Craig Smith and Kevin Acuson, respectively.
This event is becoming a highlight on the King's calendar. To ensure you don't miss out in 2024, click on the link below and register your interest.

The culminating event was part of their Integrated Studies unit Celebrating Culture and Community and the highly-anticipated Multicultural Day was a final celebration of their Term 2 studies. All students had nominated a neighbouring country to be an ambassador for and they worked throughout the term to research and then showcase their chosen country's culture. On Multicultural Day, students welcomed their parents to the Year 3 building to present their projects. This valuable unit taught our Year 3s so much about other nations and helped them reflect on what it means to show God’s love by celebrating the diverse cultures we have throughout our incredible global community.
King’s hosted an exciting event showcasing the creative talents of our Year 4 students. Inspired by the renowned 'Caine's Arcade,' these young innovators embarked on a journey to explore Newton's three laws of motion and apply their newfound knowledge in constructing their very own cardboard arcade games. Throughout Term 2, our Year 4 students dove into the world of physics and game design. Armed with a specific design brief, they were challenged to work collaboratively in teams, transforming their ideas into tangible arcade games. This project not only nurtured their problem-solving skills but also fostered a sense of teamwork and unity as they worked towards a common goal.
The process of bringing their cardboard creations to life was an adventure in itself. Armed with scissors, tape, and boundless imagination, these young inventors transformed ordinary cardboard boxes into extraordinary gaming experiences. Each team meticulously crafted their own unique game, incorporating the principles of physics and motion to make their creations come alive.
The culmination of their efforts was the grand unveiling of the 'Year 4 Arcade' at the end of Term 2. The Year 4 classrooms and common area were transformed into a bustling arcade, teeming with colourful displays and the sounds of excitement. The younger students and parents eagerly flocked to play the games and enjoy the ingenuity and creativity of our Year 4s.
As visitors explored the arcade, they were captivated by the diversity of games on display. From marble mazes and pinball machines to basketball shootouts and claw crane challenges, each game offered a unique and immersive experience. The students had truly embraced the spirit of Caine's Arcade, infusing their own creativity and personality into their designs. The King’s Christian College Year 4 Arcade event was a resounding success, showcasing the innovative and imaginative potential of our young students.
Our KTTC students took an excursion to Bunnings in the last week of Term 2, where they put their practical skills to the test by crafting wooden pencil or jewellery boxes from scratch. The twist was that they were not given instructions for the challenge. It was great to see their problem-solving and leadership skills shine as they used initiative to construct the boxes with the materials given, while guiding their peers along the way. Throughout the morning, our students completed the boxes and then applied some artistic flair by using the lids as a blank canvas to try acrylic paint marbling. We are proud of our young artisans who showed that the future of craftsmanship is in good hands.
Special thanks to Bunnings for hosting us and providing a fantastic experience for our KTTC students!
The 2023 Skipping Australia National Championships were held in Sydney from 10 -13 June. King’s Skipperoos competed in this event with a team of nine Primary students and six High School students.
