View all 2024 & 2025 Term Dates View Compass CalendarIt has been an amazing first fortnight of school as we welcomed our eager Preppies to the Prep Centre, our Years 7s to High School, and all of our new and returning students to King's. We wish our new families an incredible learning journey at our College and pray that you will all feel warmly welcomed as you settle into our school community. Please email connect@kingscollege.qld.edu.au if you need help connecting with other King's families. We really look forward to another successful year of learning passionately, living purposefully, loving faithfully and leading diligently. It's been an eventful start to Term 1 with our Year 12 students heading to camp, our High School students participating in their annual Swimming Carnival and our Primary School community getting to know their new teachers and classmates. You can read these stories and more in this first edition of our College Newsletter.
NEW YEAR, NEW SEASON, NEW DEPUTY PRINCIPALOur Year 12 students headed off on their final school camp at QCCC Mapleton in the first week of Term 1, with the central theme of 'Leading with Influence.' Students competed fiercely in their House groups over the course of three days in an effort to take home the coveted Noel Collins trophy. After a great deal of enthusiastic cooperation, Finney House won and took home the coveted trophy. Finney, great job!
This camp gave students countless opportunities to step outside their comfort zones. With an eager attitude, this cohort competed in vigorous house challenges of tug-o-war, obstacle courses, mud runs and the iconic waterslide. After each activity-packed day, these Year 12’s were a part of two unique themed nights. For night one, the students were to dress as Senior Citizens, and brought their best eldery acting skills. They participated in rounds of bingo and even went on to learn and perform a classic dance from the 50s. Night two was the long-awaited garbage bag formal where students were able to showcase their crafting abilities, practice mutual respect and even coordinate a dance entrance with their partners for the night. It was amazing to observe our young gentlemen serving dinner to their female peers and all students bonding beyond their usual social circles.
Our 2024 Year 12 camp was a whirlwind of shared laughter, unforgettable amounts of discovery and heartfelt unity. Amidst the trials and triumphs of various House challenges, the group discovered resilience and togetherness, turning a simple retreat into a transformative experience. One really encouraging aspect of camp was seeing how many students formed new or stronger connections with God throughout the evening devotions. From actively participating in worship, to responding to the messages from King’s pastors, the camp was a defining moment ahead of the cohort's final year.
Congratulations, Year 12! Your outstanding leadership and teamwork demonstrated the spirit of our school and we hope that your last camp provided the impetus to launch you into this milestone year as a unified group.
In a grand finish to King's sport in 2023, our Open Boys team emerged victorious in the Basketball Australia Foot Locker National School Championship U20s Division 2. The stellar team dominated the pool stage, securing a top spot after four challenging games. The knockout rounds saw King’s soar, with a commanding 30-point victory against Westfields Sports High School in the Quarters. The Semi-finals witnessed another impressive performance as they secured a 67-50 win against Coomera Anglican College, earning a spot in the grand final. Facing St Andrew's Cathedral School in the championship showdown, King’s sealed the deal with a 63-54 win, clinching the U20s Division 2 title. This triumph builds on their top 8 finish earlier in the year at the Basketball Queensland CBSQ schools’ tournament. Congratulations to the Open Boys basketball team and coaches!
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a new initiative within King’s Sports Program designed to cultivate and develop leaders who will champion our organisational culture and uphold the core values and mission of our College in 'Educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow's generation'. In the 2023 Schools Challenge, Anna Igari and Nylah Goble-Lote represented King's while Alyssa McDonald was unfortunately absent due to illness. In the Long Jump, Anna achieved a commendable 4.28m and 7th place in the 100m (14.00). Nylah triumphed in Shot Put, beating her All Schools performance with a final throw of 12.93m. King's Sport hope is to send extra teams next year to provide more students with the opportunity to experience top-level athletics. We extend wishes for Alyssa's speedy recovery and anticipate her return to the track soon.

King's Visual Art teachers have been educating students at King’s for at least 18 years each. They have a long and strong history of helping students produce amazing art in various media, guiding them to grow in their creative journeys. Our College acknowledges the exceptional work of these teachers who have been part of King’s culture for the past two decades. The images are just a few examples of the artwork by past students who have gone on to become successful adult artists and now parent their own budding artists. Sasha painted multimedia masterpieces that included items such as driftwood found on the beach. Reilly airbrushed images of animal feet onto various shoes and Alexis sketched lifelike drawings and used her photography skills, with her brother as the subject. Please support our amazing High School Creative Arts Department by following them on Instagram @kingscollegeart. The colourful page curates a range of vibrant visual and digital artworks from our talent art studnets.

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is designed to provide regular data on student achievement in the areas of literacy and numeracy: essential skills that each child needs to succeed. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows you to see how your child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard, and compared with their peers throughout Australia. King’s teachers frequently use NAPLAN to provide additional information about student progress and information decisions about differentiation and targeted teaching in the classroom to improve future student outcomes.
NAPLAN testing will take place in March this year. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in tests for Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation), and Numeracy.
At King’s, we expect and encourage all students to participate in NAPLAN testing, and we are pleased with our established tradition of high levels of participation. During the testing window in March, catch-up tests will be offered for students who are absent on test days. Support can be arranged for students with disabilities, particularly if the student regularly accesses similar support for school assessment tasks. Students may also be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter of consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the school, and would require a signed withdrawal form.
If you wish to discuss your Year 7 or 9 child’s participation in NAPLAN, please contact Mrs Stephanie Kozina on skozina@kingscollege.qld.edu.au.
