View all 2024 & 2025 Term Dates View Compass CalendarAs stewards of our children's growth and development, it's paramount that we foster environments where they not only excel academically but also thrive emotionally and socially. Drawing inspiration from Bernii Godwin's poignant book 'Loving Our Students on Purpose,' we are reminded of the profound impact of nurturing strong, supportive relationships with our children, an ethos deeply ingrained in our approach here at King’s. On behalf of our King's teachers, we wish our community of mums a wonderful Mother's Day!
From our Deputy PrincipalOur High School students and the Performing Arts department dedicated three months to orchestrating an unforgettable musical showcase for our College community. The result? 'Back to the 80's' – a sensational production written by Neil Gooding that was brimming with vibrant performances, nostalgic nods to the 80s, and infectious feel-good vibes. From April 26 - 27, audiences were treated to three stellar shows that transported them back in time. 'Back to the 80's' wasn't just about entertainment; it was a unique opportunity for the older generation to reminisce and share their experiences with the younger ones. The storyline captured the universal themes of teenagehood, depicting the struggles and triumphs of navigating high school cliques and finding one's identity. Our talented lead cast and student performers truly embodied the spirit of the 80s, showcasing a deep understanding of the era that left audiences feeling as though they really had stepped back in time. Through their dedication and hard work, both on and off the stage, they not only honed their artistic skills but also learned valuable lessons about teamwork, commitment, and perseverance.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our students and their families for their unwavering support throughout the fast-paced rehearsal process. Special thanks must go to our visionary Director, Mrs Chris Harm, and our tireless Creative Team whose passion and guidance elevated our 2024 production to new heights. Their dedication and commitment have not only shaped our students into better performers but better individuals. As the curtains close on this unforgettable Musical journey, we can't help but reflect on the countless memories created and the profound impact of this experience. Indeed, we've had the 'Time of (our) Lives'!
As the autumn sunshine warmed King's campus, our Primary School and Noah's Ark students eagerly welcomed our amazing mums to school for our annual Mother's Day Celebration. On Friday, 10 May, our special guests enjoyed activities in class with their children, filling our King's classrooms with heartwarming mum-focused festivities. From an array of arts and crafts to pampering hand massages, lively photo booths, dance parties, and engaging Kahoot quizzes, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Hugs and kisses were exchanged and even a few tears were shed for those mums attending their final Mother's Day in King's primary. Amidst the activities, we were honoured to host Kirsty Emery, a gifted communicator and experienced church pastor, who shared a topic close to her heart: "Motherhood – Keeping it Real." Drawing from her own journey as a busy mother, Kirsty encouraged mums to embrace the small moments and recognise their inherent worth and uniqueness as parents and individuals. She reminded us that it's the constants in family life that leave lasting impressions on our children, urging reflection on what these constants may be. She shared her own story of courage and triumph and a year of house-sitting, where the family lived in 17 houses to save money while building their home. During that time her greatest challenge was the judgement of others, but it was a time of simplicity for her family when they learned to live without stuff to experience the joy of what mattered most - their family.
Each mum received a heartfelt, hand-written card from their child and a Mother's Day sugar cookie as a small token of appreciation. On behalf of our College, we extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible community of women who selflessly love and support their children throughout the year. Thank you King's mums for making our celebrations so memorable!
Tuesday, 30 April, marked the highly-anticipated return of our annual Careers Festival and it was exciting to see the auditorium brimming with 65 exhibitors (20 more than last year) and countless attendees. The exhibition showcased an array of insights into diverse career pathways, with our Years 9-12 students and their parents immersed in discussions with university representatives, future employers, RTOs, job agencies, and career advisors. King's is the only school on the Gold Coast to offer a Careers Fair of this scale for students, and it stands as a testament to our College's commitment to equipping students for an extraordinary future. Special thanks to our Career Pathways Team for orchestrating such a valuable event!
Our High School Futsal teams competed at the Football Queensland South Coast qualifiers last week with the goal to qualify within the top 2 teams in the South Coast region and compete at the State Finals. Our U18 Boys and Girls teams qualified for the State finals and King's U15s and U13s Boys and Girls also took out the top spot in their divisions. Go King's!
Our Primary School cross country runners took the course at All Saints for the annual APS Cross Country carnival, competing against the best young athletes from the eight Associated Private Schools on the Gold Coast that King's is part of. Well done to our Primary APS Cross Country team for their efforts at this competitive event, and for successfully finishing in 3rd Place overall. A special congratulations to Asher Barker, who took out the Championship for the 11-Year Boys, and Daniel Louw for finishing 3rd in the 9-Year Boys.
Our high school runners also ran the APS Cross Country course at All Saints and also enjoyed a podium finish, coming in at 3rd Place overall. Congratulations to Joseph Lethlean and Kyah Anderson who both won their respective division in the 17 Years and over age group. Well done to Layla Wyper for successfully finishing 2nd Place in the 14yrs Girls, and to Charlie Miller (17 Years Boys) and Maverick Turner (15 Years Boys), who placed 3rd overall in their divisions.
Congratulations to all of our athletes for making it to APS and representing King's so well!
King's Rugby 7s Girls team were an unstoppable force at the All Saints 7s tournament recently. Both U15 teams finished as Grand Champions of their divisions, along with King's U18 girls. Our U13 Girls finished 2nd on the ladder on point difference. It was great to see all of their hard work pay off in this competition.
Our high school netball teams took on the new first round of the new Titan’s Netball Schools League last Monday. Our Years 9 and 10 teams and Open boys team took out their divisions, with our Years 11-12 and Years 7-8 finishing in 2nd Place. Congratulations to our teams! This competitive event served as a warm-up as the teams head into the Vicki Wilson regional qualifiers next week.
Over the Labour Day long weekend, 16 of King’s top chess players travelled to Toowoomba to play in one of Australia’s top chess tournaments - The Darling Downs Open. King’s coordinators, Mr Cooke and Mr Curtis, led the King’s squad, and between chess games, gym sessions, BBQs, and team bonding, ensured it was a fun weekend for all. Boasting a prize fund of over $30,000, the premier division of the tournament enticed several of Australia’s top masters to play, including the third and fourth-best chess Grandmasters in the country. Among the premier participants was King’s Year 9 student Micah Young, who performed above his seeding with a 3.5/9 score. King’s coaches and Fide Masters, Jack Rodgers and Yi Liu, finished 1st and 3rd, respectively, both managing to score results against Grandmasters. Jack’s win against Grandmaster David Smerdon with the black pieces was the highest-rated win of his career. View the game here.
In the major division, Bryan Yang came close to defending his 30+ game unbeaten streak in tournament chess, falling just short of victory after a loss in his final round. A 5.5/7 score was enough to secure him 3rd place and a performance rating over 2000. Had Bryan won, he would have collected the $3,000 first prize, however, he can take solace knowing that he has come in the top three in every event he has played this year. Several other King’s students stood out in the Major division, including Edwin Choi (5/7) who defeated the tournament’s top seed, and William Cameron (5/7), who came 1st in the U1500 division. Fresh off his win in the Japan U12 Championship, Rentaro Inukai scored 4/7 which was an excellent result for a Year 6 player. A special effort by Sophiah Cooke saw her take out the Best Female prize in the Minor Division. Sophia finished on 4.5/7 alongside Jayden Smith who was the picture of solidity, going unbeaten after winning two games and drawing the other five. Extraordinarily, every King’s player had a rating performance higher than their current rating which bodes well heading into the Gold Coast Interschools Championships which will take place next week.

This week, the Year 11 Digital Art class visited Cougal Cascade and Currumbin Rock Pools to take photographs using a variety of lenses. They had to include textures and patterns, motion blur, shallow depth of field, vertical lines and a wide-angle image amongst their photos.. We look forward to sharing more of their work with you over the coming weeks. Please follow our King's Instagram account to see more of our students' work. Photos taken by Kobe.
