View all 2024 & 2025 Term Dates View Compass CalendarAs we launch into Term 4, our Deputy Principal shares an inspiring message that encourages our students to stay engaged in their learning as we prepare for the final push of the school year. Drawing from key scriptural themes, his message emphasises the importance of stewarding our God-given gifts, pursuing wisdom and using our education to serve others. As we reflect on the biblical foundations of lifelong learning, let us embrace the opportunity to grow in knowledge, maturity, and faith, honouring God in all that we do.

Creative By Design (CBD) Week has been a beloved annual tradition in our primary school since 2006, blending fun, faith, and creativity into an unforgettable experience. Our 2024 theme 'Inside Out' was inspired by 1 Samuel 16:7, reminding students that 'it’s what’s inside that matters to God.' From 9-12 September, we paused our usual school timetable to make way for a week of immersive activities. CBD Week was a chance for students to explore their creative gifts and passions in a variety of ways. Often described in Primary as 'the best week of the year,' CBD allowed students to experience creativity in many forms. Students dove into the depths of God’s creativity and His love for all creation.
The week began with a captivating bubble show, and throughout the week, students participated in a variety of exciting activities, including:
CBD 2024 also featured special guest performances including a BMX display by JC Epidemic, which thrilled students with daring stunts, while the interactive drumming workshops had everyone tapping into their rhythmic side. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our Chaplaincy team and Primary School staff for organising another unforgettable CBD Week. Our community enjoyed growing both their creative potential and their relationship with God throughout the event.
A highlight of our Creative By Design week was the King’s Has Talent Grand Finals, held on the final day of Term 3. The performers showcased an exceptional level of dedication, courage and commitment. Our finalists reflected their God-given abilities through a range of instrumental acts, dance routines, singing performances and musical theatre skills. Their talents were on full display for our school community, with their peers cheering enthusiastically throughout the auditions, semi-finals, and finals. This year, the competition featured two categories for each division. The 'Rising Stars' category was designed for students who are just beginning to develop their skills and perform publicly. The 'Next Level' category was for those with more experience and well-developed talents.

Week 2 of Term 4 has been filled with mixed emotions for our Year 12 students, whose school journey at King's is quickly coming to an end. Throughout the week, that bittersweet feeling of finishing high school became a reality as the cohort enjoyed a number of 'final' events and fun festivities. This included their final Year 12 Honours Assembly, leadership handover ceremony, last LIFE fundraiser event and PC Class celebrations. Every year, our graduating cohort is given a name that reflects the characteristics of that year group and our 2024 Year of Legacy received accolades for the huge impact they have left on our College. Mr Brendan Blakemore, King's Board Chairman, gave a keynote speech to the group. After congratulating them on all they had achieved, Mr Blakemore shared a pertinent message from the book of Jonah. He used the story of Jonah's life to remind our Year 12s about the sovereign nature of God, how He always gives second chances and how His will prevails in our lives. He concluded by praying for the cohort as they head into their final exams and their futures beyond King's. During the Honours Assembly, it was also a privilege to present a large number of final Honours awards and to celebrate our Year 12 students who had completed Diploma or Certificate (VET) courses while studying at King's.
Good luck Year 12 as you start your final exams in a few weeks – we know your hard work will pay off! Our College community look forward to celebrating their success when they return for the Year 12 Tunnel and Tree Plant.
Congratulations Honours & VET RecipientsThe High School precinct was filled with all things merry and bright on Thursday, 10 October, as our High School students dressed in Christmas costumes and shared some early festive cheer, all to raise funds for King's Care Christmas Hamper Project. King's Care is the outreach of King's Church, and it helps many people every week of the year with food relief and vital services. At Christmas time, their beautiful food hampers are given to hundreds of struggling families across the Gold Coast. Our grand finale LIFE event for 2024 marked the last one ever for our Year 12s and included a Christmas treats competition, 'best-dressed' awards and a lunchtime BBQ fundraiser. At King's, we love opportunities to build community, bring joy to our students and help those less fortunate in our local area, and our Christmas-themed FUNdraiser achieved all three! We want to thank our High School LIFE team and our graduating Year 12 LIFE leaders, whose time and energy throughout the year has made our fundraising efforts possible. It’s amazing what the power of kindness can achieve!
Congratulations to our best-dressed winners:
King’s hosted its annual Year 12 Art Exhibition on Thursday, 3 October, giving our senior students the opportunity to showcase their creative talents in various forms. This year, we exhibited works from our Visual and Digital Art students and it was incredible to see the quality of work that had been produced this year. Former student Jaiden Durman was our guest presenter at the event, and he shared his creative journey after completing Art at King’s. King's teacher, Glenn Miles, provided an instrumental background for our evening. Thank you to all who came along to support this special event. We are very proud of our Year 12 art students and wish them all the best for their future endeavours! These photographs were taken by former student, Cassidy Muir @cmphotographygc. Follow us on Instagram @kingscollegeart to see more footage from our students.
The 2024 Thailand Mission Trip took place in the September school holidays and was a transformative experience for our students, fostering growth in leadership, faith, and compassion. Partnering with Lenore Dickson and the Rescue Mission for Children (RMFC) in Chiang Rai, Thailand, our group worked with the stateless Akha Hill tribe children from the region. King's staff and students embraced the chance to serve, step out of their comfort zones to share Jesus' love to make a lasting impact. They supported valuable projects like medical checkups, painting, repairs, and gardening. Our Life Program fundraiser and generous donations of school supplies from King's families were given out during the visit. These valuable resources were greatly appreciated and will make a tangible difference in the children's lives.
King’s Skipperoos have just returned from the 2024 Australian Skipping Championships held in Canberra, where they competed from 27 - 30 September. Over four action-packed days, hundreds of athletes from across Australia showcased their talents and King’s contingent of 45 (including supporters) enjoyed an unforgettable experience. Our athletes delivered impressive results, including eight national gold medals and many other top-five placings. This event also served as a qualifying round for the Australian team that will compete in the 2025 World Championships in Kawasaki, Japan. Jasmine Hawkins qualified for the event and the Skipperoos expect more King’s athletes will qualify soon.
Key highlights from the national championships include:
New Australian Records:
Overall Individual Age Champions:
Marcu Li Memorial Award:
Mackenzie was honoured with this prestigious award for exemplifying resilience, team spirit, leadership, and dedication—qualities that make her a standout athlete. Congratulations Mackenzie!
The success of King’s skipping program this year serves as a reminder of the unique gifts God bestows on each person. Our coaches count it a privilege to help nurture these talents. The team extends heartfelt thanks to their supporters including staff, parents, family members, volunteers, and junior coaches. Special thanks to head coach, Jasmine Hawkins, and our senior athletes who provide invaluable mentorship to the juniors. We also acknowledge the tireless service of Learne Hawkins, who has dedicated her time and energy to the sport since 2011.
This year’s Instrumental Music Showcase was a vibrant celebration of musical talent and community spirit, bringing together King’s students, staff, and families for a night of exceptional performances. Held on October 9 in the Auditorium, the evening was a culmination of months of preparation and practise and reflected the high value we place on Performing Arts at King's. Performances ranged from our King's Concert Band and String Orchestras to our specialised smaller groups and solo musicians. Every song showed an array of talent, highlighting our students' skills and passion for music. The audience enjoyed classical compositions through to contemporary tunes, which allowed students to showcase their versatility. Teachers and guests expressed their pride in the students' accomplishments, making the event a memorable highlight of the year. Thank you to our amazing instrumental tutors who dedicate their time and talents to teaching our students. Well done students for demonstrating such a high level of musicianship!
During the September school holidays, some of our most talented musicians attended the prestigious Australian or State Honours Ensemble Programs held at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, South Brisbane. The programs require intensive rehearsals over 3-4 days and conclude with public concerts to finish. As an intensive program, students have the opportunity to work in a professional orchestral environment with world-class conductors. Although quite demanding, these experiences are very rewarding for young musicians, and help them to appreciate the expertise, time commitment and dedication required to be an active member of an orchestra. Congratulations to our exceptional musicians for being selected and for committing your time to attend these world-class programs.
Michelle Huang (Year 8) and Clare Chung (Year 7) represented King’s at the 4-day Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP). Michelle and Clare reflected on their time at AHEP:
State Honours Ensemble Program – Queensland was attended by six King’s students:
Sybelle and Julia shared their thoughts on participating in SHEP QLD:
Michelle Huang (Year 8), has had exceptional success as a young musician. Playing piano and cello from a young age, her incredible talent sees her regularly shine on stage as she mesmerises her audiences. Michelle has just completed a very busy performance competition season this year and collected 16 First Place awards, multiple other placings and many special prizes. Michelle has competed in the Senior String Quartet and King’s Chamber Ensemble for King's at the Quota Beenleigh and Gold Coast Eisteddfod. Congratulations Michelle for continuing to make King's proud!
SEE MICHELLE'S AMAZING RESULTSWe look forward to celebrating the successes of our students from throughout 2024 at our upcoming Presentation Nights. During these events, King's will present our annual awards to recipients in the auditorium, followed by photos near the COLA.
