As we enter this season of endings, transitions and new beginnings, our Deputy Principal reminds us of the journey we’re all on – from our littlest Preps to our pioneering Year 12s. In his message, he reflects on the excitement and challenges of moving forward and no matter where our students are in their journey, they are guided by King's core values of faith, purpose, and leadership, as they grow into the confident, capable individuals God has called them to be. Let’s embrace each step with courage and joy, knowing that God is with us every step of the way.
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."
'Spectacular' best describes this year's King's Ball. From the elegant Imperial Hotel ballroom and the glamorous guests, to the dazzling entertainment and thousands raised for missions, Saturday, 12 October, was a night to remember! This was our fifth ball for King's parents and staff, with the main mission to 'friend-raise' by building a solid and supportive foundation within our school community. This annual event also provides the chance for our parents to help fundraise for our High School Mission Trips and this year, the Ball successfully raised $6,630 through a Silent Auction and lucky draw ticket sales. Our three major prizes this year were Two Vitality Memberships for Rigs Recovery, valued at $2,500 each; four tickets to Luke Combs Sydney Concert; and a $1000 Flight Centre voucher. Congratulations to our lucky winners!
Thanks to our 2024 P&F Ball Sponsors & Coordinators
We want to give special recognition to our major sponsors Rigs Recovery, Venues NSW and Optimise Property Investment. Thanks to the many businesses and families who donated to this event, including Optimise Property Investment, Imperial Hotel, Parkwood Golf Club, Officeworks and Gold Coast Wake Park. We also want to thank our parents and staff who attended this event - for helping us fundraise on the night, for bringing so much joy to the occasion and for making this event such a huge success. Our biggest thanks must go to King's P&F Association and our Event Coordinator, Toni Colburn, whose time and energy preparing this event, made this event possible.

At King's, we cherish every chance to strengthen our community, bring joy to our students, and support those in need. Primary School's Term 4 Christmas-themed FUNdraiser was held on Tuesday, 22 October, and did just that! The Primary precinct was a festive wonderland as students from Pre Prep to Year 6 arrived dressed in some of the most amazing Christmas costumes, brimming with holiday spirit to raise money for the King's Care Christmas Hamper Project. King's Care is the outreach arm of King's Church and provides food relief and essential services to many people in need. During Christmas, they deliver beautiful food hampers to struggling families across the Gold Coast. The event was the grand finale for our 2024 LIFE program and featured a Christmas treats competition, ‘best-dressed’ awards, a lively lunchtime concert, and a sausage sizzle fundraiser. Our amazing community of parents, staff, and students showed their generosity, selling out Christmas treats and sausages and raising record funds for King’s Care to support even more families this Christmas. Special thanks to our dedicated Primary School LIFE team, whose dedication throughout the year made our fundraising events possible.

In Week 3 of Term 4, our Year 6 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure in the tropical paradise of Cairns. The camp aimed to strengthen friendships and offer the chance to marvel at God's creation… and it delivered in every way! Their action-packed week included a journey on the Kuranda Scenic Railway through the World Heritage-listed rainforest, a thrilling ride at Rainforestation Nature Park aboard a World War II amphibious DUKW, and encounters with native wildlife. At Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, they came face-to-face with crocodiles and koalas, while a visit to Cairns Aquarium revealed the wonders of the reef. The highlight was definitely a day at the Great Barrier Reef, where students snorkelled among vibrant coral and marine life, spotted turtles and sharks from a semi-submersible glass-bottom boat, and learned about the reef’s mysteries from a Marine Biologist. Chaplains led evening devotions and worship sessions that deepened our students' faith and their connection with God. The 2024 Cairns trip offered so much more than breathtaking sights. It was a life-changing experience for our Year 6 cohort, fostering greater faith, friendships, courage, and unity, and preparing our students for their high school journey. Thank you to our King’s teachers and camp coordinators for making this possible!

Biz Day is one of our favourite annual events, giving Year 9 Young Entrepreneurs the chance to bring their business ideas to life. After weeks of preparation, they transformed the High School Oval into a vibrant marketplace on Thursday, 17 October. Entrepreneurial energy filled the air with enticing aromas, bold branding, and enthusiastic sales pitches. Our Year 9s set up their market stalls and pop-up kitchens, drawing in eager crowds of students and staff to generate sales. From delicious dumplings to refreshing acai bowls, and an array of irresistible treats, customers enjoyed the diverse offerings. Our 'secret shoppers' voted on the best businesses on the day and we are pleased to announce this year's winners:
1st Place: Crookies Co
2nd Place: Baby Cakes
3rd Place: The Brownie Boutique
Most profitable: Poppin' Perfection
Our Year 9 Young Entrepreneurs are now finalising their financial statements and will share 10% of profits with charitable causes, with the remainder split among team members. Congratulations to our budding entrepreneurs for showcasing such impressive business skills and thanks to our school community for being such generous customers!
"My group ran the ‘Cup Fruit Candy Cups’ stall, which was really popular and we ended up selling out. The Biz Day atmosphere was energising, and the event was a memorable learning experience for all of us. I highly recommend participating in future Biz Days if you can, by either running a stall or supporting your friends by buying their products."

This year, a record number of King's High School students successfully completed Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications, alongside their regular studies. These achievements reflect the incredible dedication of our students and the unique opportunities that VET courses provide. By gaining practical experience, developing employability and interpersonal skills, and becoming familiar with how workplaces operate, our students are not only excelling academically but also exploring potential career paths to align with their future ambitions. Special thanks to Mrs Bull (Future Pathways & VET Officer) and Miss Gillies (VET Coordinator) for supporting these students to thrive. Well done to all of our students who achieved these qualifications!

On Wednesday, 23 October, our Year 10 Visual Art class visited Currumbin Foreshore to create artwork on the beach. Some students had prepared their props earlier in class, and others collected driftwood and discarded items to do their work. The class spread out across the beach and felt like they had their own mini 'Swell' exhibit. It was a beautiful day and a fabulous way to end excursions for the year. Please follow King's High School art page on Instagram @kingscollegeart to see more photos from our Visual and Digital Art students.

The State CBSQ Tournament has been Queensland's premier school basketball competition since 1974. Expanding to five competitions and accommodating various age groups and skill levels, CBSQ offers teams the chance to compete through a series of rounds, to gain entry into the Australian Schools Championships in December. The Junior Division competition was held at the Gold Coast Indoor Sports Centre from 10-13 October. After a number of hard-fought games against some of the State’s best teams, King’s team secured the Division 1 victory to be crowned Junior Secondary Boys Champions. This significant win now earns them a spot at nationals, where they will have the chance to showcase their talents on a larger stage. Congratulations to our champions! Well done to our Junior Girls team who also delivered an outstanding performance and finished in the top 8.
King's Celebrates Inaugural UHLSport Cup Victory
21 October 2024
We are thrilled to announce a historic achievement for King's football with our Open Football Boys team securing their first victory in the UHLSport Cup. This premier Under 19 independent schools' soccer competition is sanctioned by Football Queensland and organised by the Independent Soccer Schools Association (ISSA). Now in its 25th year, the UHLSport Cup includes the top Under 19 teams from independent schools across the State in a competition known for its high standards and fierce rivalry. Every year, the tournament kicks off with a pool round, where teams compete against local schools to secure their spot in the knockouts. The top two teams from each pool advance to the elimination rounds, including the quarterfinals and semifinals, leading up to the much-anticipated Grand Final.
King's Open Boys team have consistently showcased their skill and determination, making it to the Grand Final for four consecutive years but narrowly missing the Gold. 2024 was different and it was King's time to shine! In a thrilling final match, the boys triumphed after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Brisbane Boys College, clinching the championship title after three years of near-misses. This remarkable win late last term was a testament to our players' resilience, commitment to excellence, and passion for the sport. Congratulations to our champions for this momentous victory and for setting a new standard for football at King's. We look forward to building on this success in the years to come!
