Message from our Deputy Principal

In this fortnight's message, Mr Taylor reflects on the significance of both celebrating achievements and navigating life's challenges. As the school year draws to a close and students receive recognition for their hard work in academics, sports, and the arts, he reminds us that success is only one part of the journey. He acknowledges that disappointments are normal and encourages students to find their true source of confidence, not in accolades, but in the steadfast faithfulness of God. Drawing on the Word, he reminds us all that peace and courage come from Christ, who has overcome the world's challenges and gives us a foundation of unshakeable hope throughout triumph and trials.

Award Presentation Nights 2024

King's annual Award Presentation Nights showcase the remarkable efforts of our students in the areas of academic achievement and Christian character. They are an important time in our school calendar, as we present prestigious awards to those who have demonstrated exceptional success throughout the year. Our 2024 ceremonies unfolded over two memorable evenings, with the Primary School celebration on Tuesday, 5 November, followed by High School on Wednesday, 6 November. Parents, families, and friends gathered to honour our students’ accomplishments and were also treated to outstanding performances by our talented performing arts students. After the presentations, award recipients had photos with their teachers and loved ones. We extend our congratulations to King's 2024 award winners, whose dedication and commitment to school life shone brightly this year.

Year 3's Night with the Stars

King’s Year 3 students enjoyed their first school camp on Friday, 25 October. Their overnight experience took place on our school oval, and clear blue skies set the scene for a fun-filled evening. The exciting schedule of activities offered various opportunities for our happy campers to make new friendships, develop their social skills, and build their own campsite. Our Year 3 students were each accompanied by a parent, as well as their Year 3 teachers. The group enjoyed a shared dinner, various games, devotional time, and a movie in the amphitheatre. For some students, spending the night in tents under the starlit sky was a new experience, while others showed their seasoned camping skills. The Year 3’s inaugural camp at King's marked the beginning of an exciting journey for our young students, paving the way for many offsite school camp adventures in the years to come.

Year 6's Sneak Peek into High School Life

On Thursday, 31 October, our Year 6 students took an exciting first step into Year 7 with their High School Experience Morning. Before the event, students were encouraged to submit questions about high school, which King’s teachers answered throughout the day. Joined by our incoming 2025 Year 7 students from other schools, the morning kicked off in the auditorium before students moved into their House groups for rotational activities. These included classroom tours, padlock practice, and exciting Tinball games. Throughout the morning, students also met high school staff, learned about the culture of high school, and connected with senior peers. For our continuing King’s students, staying on the same campus for high school offers a reassuring familiarity, and this experience day helped address any remaining uncertainties. By the end of the morning, our Year 6s felt excited and prepared for their high school journey in 2025.

Year 4 Instrumental Concert 2024

Our Year 4 Instrumental Music Concert was held in the College auditorium on Wednesday, 30 October. The concert was the culminating event for the Year 4 Instrumental Music Immersion Program, where all students learn an instrument over the course of the school year. It was exciting for our budding musicians to perform in their first concert on their instruments to a live audience of parents, friends and their Year 3 peers. Our audience was impressed by the students' skills and how well they performed in their ensembles. Our young musicians thoroughly enjoyed the experience and their enthusiasm for playing a musical instrument was evident. Thank you to so many Year 4 parents and friends for attending, and to our Primary Music teachers for helping our new musicians on their learning journey. We hope to see our Year 4 students continue their musical journey in the years to come.

Primary Opens Unique New Playground

This week, King’s Primary was thrilled to unveil 'The Climbatron,' an innovative playground designed by our resident artist, Andrew Payne. Unlike traditional play structures, The Climbatron’s unique design encourages curiosity and excitement with its horizontal climbing experience. Students navigate around the walls, finding creative ways to stay on the holds, while the layout minimises fall risks with soft landing zones for added safety. A standout feature is its versatility- students can invent their own games, rules, and friendly competitions as they interact with the space. The Climbatron also promotes endurance and problem-solving, helping students build physical strength in a fun, engaging way. Engineered for both challenge and safety, it provides a controlled environment where students can push their limits while learning to manage risks.

On Monday, 4 November, we celebrated the grand opening of The Climbatron. Mrs Payne, our Head of Primary, officially opened the playground by cutting the ribbon and our first group of students were invited to enjoy the new play space. This exciting addition to King’s playground equipment reflects our ongoing commitment to our students' learning.

Future Leaders Summit 2024

A group of our 2025 Year 12 leaders had the privilege of attending Southern Cross University's Leadership Summit on Tuesday, 5 November. The workshop was designed specifically for our current leaders, and it provided a great opportunity to learn more about leadership with like-minded students as they strategised based on their values and aspirations for their school communities. The Summit was hosted by Lachlan Smart, who shared his inspiring achievements as the youngest individual to fly solo around the world.

Year 10 Business Students Excel in PYOE Competition

In Term 3, our Year 10 Business students developed business plans to address needs they identified in the community. Each plan required a unique business name, a mission statement, and detailed strategies for human resources, finances, and marketing. Our students then entered their projects in the Plan Your Own Enterprise (PYOE) competition, with two teams from Pimpama achieving top placements in Queensland, namely second and third place while Reedy Creek team received top honours.

King’s Become All Schools 7s Champions

Our rugby teams took to South Pine for the Qld All Schools 7s Championships from the 26-27 October. Our U15 Girls emerged victorious, closely followed by our U13 Boys who finished Runners Up. Congratulations to all of our teams, who all finished in the Top 5.

King's Annual Rugby Awards 2024

We celebrated another outstanding season of King's Rugby on Tuesday, 29 October, at our 2024 Rugby Awards Night. On the night, Mr Grady and our rugby staff shared some of the incredible highlights from the year, including:

APS Season:

• 9 teams competed; Year 4 team went undefeated, winning the DNK Cup.
• Won three High School Division Championships.

Ballymore Cup:

• 13 Boys, 15 Boys, and 18 Boys competed; 13 Boys achieved a three-peat.
• 18 Girls won the inaugural event.

Tours:

• 1st XV toured New Zealand (April); 8-day Sydney trip (July).

Rugby 7s Success:

• Three girls were selected for the Australian School Girls team.
• Two boys on Queensland 18 Boys 7s team.
• 15 Girls won State Championship at All-Schools 7s.

Touch Football Highlights:

APS Season:

• 16 of 18 High School teams reached Grand Finals.

All-Schools Tournament:

• 17 teams participated; 15 Girls placed 3rd out of 100+ teams, 13 Girls placed 5th.

Primary Success:

• U10 Boys and Girls won South Qld Champs; U10 Boys also won King’s Cup.

U10 Boys:

• Undefeated in APS Rugby, won DNK Cup and two Touch Football Championships.

King's Annual Basketball Awards 2024

On Wednesday, 30 October, our College celebrated the second annual Basketball Awards Night. This year has been exceptionally strong for King's Basketball and we are one of the only schools in the State to have all teams from Primary 3x3, Sophomore, Juniors, and Open, in both Boys and Girls, all in Division 1. Both our Sophomore and Junior CBSQ Boys squads won GOLD in their State Championships for the first time.

The CBSQ Open tournament games were fiercely competitive, pushing us to our limits. We came close, losing to the team that ultimately took home the championship by just five points. The Junior and Sophomore CBSQ tournaments were a must-watch. The boys worked tirelessly throughout the tournament to secure their gold medals. From the opening bounce, our boys showed they meant business. They consistently excelled on both the offensive and defensive ends. Our CBSQ Open Girls, Sophomore Girls, and Junior Girls had a fantastic tournament! Although they fell short, the growth and determination displayed were incredible. We are looking forward to the future of girls’ basketball at Kings.

Congratulations to everyone involved in what was one of our most successful club seasons to date. This year, we entered 22 teams into the Winter Competition. Of those 22 teams, we had an amazing 15 make the Top 4 finals series, with 7 of these teams finishing first or second in their division.

Queensland All Schools Athletics

It was a very successful weekend for our King’s athletics team in the Queensland All Schools Athletics competition. In the individual events, we had 10 athletes compete in 18 events. There were many PB's across the weekend which was fantastic. We collected three GOLDs, one silver, one bronze, and six top 8s. Nayan, Kyah, Charlee and Alyssa have all qualified for Nationals. Our boys were really engaged in the competition and took on the challenge. Many of them were competing against the best athletes in the State. Jay ran against Australian athletics champion, Gout Gout, twice, including in his record breaking 200m run of 20.29. Gout is the fastest man in Queensland and 4th fastest ever in the world for u18. This result has qualified our team for Nationals in December.

King’s Triumphs at QLD All Schools Touch Football Tournament

King’s entered seven teams into the QLD Primary All Schools Touch Football Tournament held in Brisbane from the 1st - 3rd November. We had the highest number of teams from any school in the competition, which included 291 teams overall. Our players represented King’s with excellence, showcasing remarkable skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the event.

Key Highlights

• Junior Boys: Crowned QLD Champions in Division 1 – a phenomenal achievement!

• Championship Division Achievements (Top 16 in QLD):
  - Junior Boys: 1st in QLD
  - Junior Girls
  - Open Girls

Every King's team performed exceptionally well, improving with every game and excelling within their divisions. Their commitment and determination to grow stronger throughout the tournament truly shone. We extend our thanks to our dedicated coaching staff, led by Mr Mana, for guiding our coaches and players to success. Congratulations to all for an incredible tournament.

APS Season 2, 2024 Success

Congratulations to all our High School APS teams on another mega APS season! This year, we took home 30 premierships out of the 70 on offer in Season Two, the most of any school in the competition. A big congratulations to our girls' basketball teams, with every entered team taking home a premiership.

King's Annual Intercampus Chess Tournament

On Monday, 28 October, our Reedy Creek campus came alive with the buzz of strategy and skill as it hosted the highly anticipated 2024 King's Grand Prix (Intercampus Chess Tournament). The auditorium was packed with 337 eager chess players from Prep to Year 11, hailing from Reedy Creek, Pimpama and Logan Village campuses, for a day of intense, yet friendly competition. Beyond the campus rivalry, students played for crucial House points, adding an extra layer of excitement to each match. After a thrilling tournament, the winning campus emerged as Reedy Creek, with Finney crowned as our 2024 House Chess Champions, ahead of Tyndale (2nd), Rayleigh (3rd) and Newton (4th). Throughout the tournament, students showcased exceptional concentration and skill, leading to some outstanding individual achievements, including:

• Premier Champion - Woojoon Ki (RC) 2nd place Rentaro Inukai (RC) and 3rd Place Kotaro Inukai (RC)
• A Division - 1st - William McEwan (PMA), 2nd - Lucas Rivero (LV), 3rd - Charlie Sakran (RC)

In addition to the top awards, a range of merit ribbons and team prizes were handed out, completing a great day of chess for all involved.

Student Art Selected for Energies Exhibition

The annual “Energies” exhibition is currently on at HOTA. Nurturing artistic talent for nearly 40 years, ”Energies” is a renowned exhibition showcasing the exceptional work of senior secondary visual art students on the Gold Coast. This well-loved platform provides a professional gallery setting for these rising stars to unveil their creativity. More than just an exhibition, “Energies” champions artistic excellence, recognizes best practices in arts education, and empowers students to pursue careers in the arts. This year we proudly have two students with their work on display. Aaliyah’s work titled “Surrendered” consists of a series of ceramic clay vessels which she threw on our pottery wheel earlier in the year, and a digital film. Julia’s work “Not So Blue” is a series of cotton cyanotypes and a digital display. Well done girls. The exhibition closes on Sunday so we would encourage you to go and see them before it finishes.
