View all 2024 Term Dates View Compass CalendarAustralian Children's Laureate 2024-2025, Sally Rippen, was the voice behind the reading of the the children's book, Bowerbird Blues in the National Simultaneous Storytime held on Wednesday 22 May. All Primary schools around Australia all heard the book being read either online or with their librarian at virtually the same time.
Bowerbird Blues is a new picture book from Aura Parker and stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for blue! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower – a mix of natural and unnatural objects – attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.
Junior Librarian, Mrs Rebecca Benson, read the book to junior primary students and they loved the story.
At King's we aim for all of our student's to have a sense of belonging, to know who their are in Jesus and become the person that God has intended them to be by actively having a servant-hearted attitude in all that they do.
Our Year 2 innovators are diving into the world of stop motion animation, bringing classic stories like Noah's Ark, David and Goliath, and the Good Samaritan to life!
Through this exciting animation project, students are:
We can't wait to see their imaginative creations! Stay tuned for their amazing stop motion videos in the last issue for Term 2!
Our Primary students had a treat with Active School Program on 21 May when the Riding Rulz program was presented at Assembly by inspiring athlete and cycling Olympic gold medallist, Sara Carrigan.
On entering Assembly, our students high-fived, hugged and greeted Zero the Hero with much enthusiasm before they learned some invaluable bicycle lessons from the 2004 Gold Medalist Cycling Olympian, who shared her winning moments from all those years ago via video. Sara Carrigan inspired our students with her incredible cycling journey and stated that her passion for cycling was started at a similar program when she was at school. The students were thrilled to cheer her across the finish line "once again" as they watched her gold medal-winning footage on the big screen.
After Assembly, the Gold Coast City Council Active Travel program treated each child to a delicious muffin or a piece of fresh fruit. Thank you to Lollilops and Lace for baking through the night and Saharan Fruit Brothers for their delicious contributions to the event.
Let's keep the wheels turning and stay active every Chooseday as we as a community endeavour to protect the environment, have fun and confidently teach the students a valuable life skill that one day might take another of our King's Kid to a future Olympics too!
Earlier this term, Bailey Yiend in 6PA, went to the Philippines to represent Australia in Futsal.
Bailey had a very successful time, scoring several goals and representing his country superbly.
Whilst over in the Philippines representing Australia in Futsal, Bailey also took over some donated soccer and Futsal boots to the local Iraya Mangyan children. He visited Baclayan Mangyan School in Puerto Galera, engaging with the Iraya Mangyan tribe through gift giving, jersey donations, and a feeding program.
Bailey and his family appreciate and thank everyone in the King's Community who donated boots for these children.
Every semester at King's, high school students are recognised and rewarded for their dedication to their studies and extracurricular activities during our formal Honours Assemblies. Honours Badges are awarded at different levels—Teal, Bronze, Silver, and Gold—based on the College's Honours Criteria.
Tuesday 28 May saw the Senior High School community come together to recognise the academic achievements of our senior students for the second semester of their academic year. It was wonderful to have so many parents able to join us in celebrating the hard work, commitment, and diligence of their children.
Our assembly started with a beautiful performance of ‘Viva La Vida’ by some of our talented musicians - Emma Cooper, Chelsea Cunningham, Ashley Keil & Lily Prodger. After which over 68 students received their honours awards from Mr Jaeden Haas, Head of Department of English and Mr Brendon Schweitzer, Head of Department for the Arts, Technologies and Christian Studies.

It was a 'full circle' moment for the Year 12s, who are also the first cohort to graduate later this year from Pimpama, as they had the opportunity to minister to the first cohort at King's Logan Village. It's so good to see our students help to build God's Kingdom.
The Melbourne Arts was truly a once in a lifetime experience as students got to travel to Australia’s most artistic place. Students of all the arts: dance, drama, music, film/tv and visual art, were given the opportunity to visit Melbourne with a packed full itinerary and luxury accommodation. This trip truly changed lives as we were given the chance to be a live audience for The Project (Channel 10), and experience workshops specialising in each aspect of the performing arts. Drama students were taught more about screen acting and learning a more advance technique for more realistic acting. Dance students had four hours to explore the four genres of lyrical, ballet, jazz, and hip hop, while visual art students learned about graffiti art and expressing their own unique artistic style. Friendships were built between the younger and older grades as everyone was in proximity for activities and accommodation. Students were able to gain a deeper appreciation for the arts as they visited museums and attended the musical Wicked allowing them to see professionals in the performing arts in action. It was a truly incredible trip and is strongly recommended for those interested in the performing arts.

On Wednesday 8th May, Year 10 Geography students visited SeaWorld to gather background information to utilise for an assessment on challenges impacting our marine environment. On arrival, we went to the polar bear enclosure and listened to an insightful talk about how Polar bears lived and how marine debris is affecting the ocean. After this talk, we visited the sea lions reading signposts on how they rely on the Ocean. This background information was useful to enhance our perception of the effect of marine debris on the Ocean in Australia. After this we had the opportunity to go snorkelling with sharks and rays in the aquarium tank. This was an amazing experience as we got to observe how the variety of marine animals live.

Year 12 student, Isabella Zengoski’s formal dress was a unique creation inspired by a combination of her personality, a previous design she admired, and her love for Disney's Belle from "Beauty and the Beast." Her mother, an experienced seamstress and owner of Ormeau based Bridal Company, collaborated with a designer to bring Isabella's vision to life, ensuring the dress was both school-appropriate and a true reflection of Isabella's personality.
She wanted to stand out and ensure the dress represented her unique style. Hence, they opted for a black base to set a dramatic tone, complemented with pink and purple sequins and floral elements to evoke a princess-like aura. The dress incorporated tulle, sparkle tulle, iridescent sequins, organza hand-stitched flowers, and a petticoat for fullness. It featured boning in the corset for structure and included practical pockets, a thoughtful addition for convenience.
Isabella's familiarity with fashion and sewing, cultivated from a young age as well as her interest in Home Economics in Year 9, played a crucial role in the dress's creation. She had hands-on experience from making her own accessories and homewares.
She teamed her outfit with Converse shoes for comfort and a love of the brand, ensuring she could enjoy the event without the discomfort of high heels. The process was a labour of love, highlighting the bond between Isabella and her mother, and their shared passion for fashion and design.
Isabella's formal dress is a testament to her personality, creativity, and the loving craftsmanship of her mother. With a beautiful balance of elegance and practicality, she felt radiant for her memory-making formal night!
Isabella Zengoski had initially considered pursuing a career in fashion after leaving school, inspired by her mother's expertise and her own experiences growing up in the sewing and fashion industry. She has however decided to take a different, yet exciting turn, with her passion for sports organisation. In her senior schooling years, Isabella discovered her true passion lies in sports management. She has developed a keen interest in event planning, organising sporting events, and managing sports organisations and has accepted an university early offer in Sports Management. We wish Isabella all the best for her future endeavours.
Year 12 student Lily Petherick recently showcased remarkable talent at the World Cheer Championships in Orlando, Florida, competing against 10,500 athletes from 25 countries. In a fiercely competitive division with 17 teams, Lily's team initially placed 8th after the first day. However, on the final day, they executed a flawless routine, propelling them to an impressive 2nd place finish. This outstanding performance not only secured their spot on the podium but also earned them the distinction of being the highest placing Australian team in the competition. Lily's dedication and skill have truly shone on the world stage, bringing pride to her school and country. We are so proud of you Lily, what an incredible achievement.

King’s Christian College proudly hosted the Inaugural Northern Cluster Primary Challenge Rugby League Gala Day, welcoming the following schools from St Joseph’s Coomera, Ormeau State School, and Norfolk State School. The event kicked off with a Tackle Ready session led by the National Rugby League Game Development team, where students learned essential safe tackling and landing techniques.
King's Christian College fielded three teams: two boys' teams and one girls' team. For many students, this was their first experience playing a contact sport. Despite the initial challenges, all participants showcased impressive skills and sportsmanship. The day was a tremendous success.
Titans Cup: St Joseph’s/King’s Christian College vs Coombabah SHS
Our rugby league team had an exciting and memorable experience as they played under lights for the first time, cheered on by their fellow peers and students. Facing a tough opponent in Coombabah, the team fought hard throughout the match but ultimately went down with a final score of 36 - 6.
Despite the challenging night, the experience of playing in front of a supportive crowd and under the lights was invaluable for our players. We are proud of their effort and determination, and look forward to their last game of the season next week.

The recent Swimming Gold Coast Awards were celebrated. SE Qld is a prime region for Australian swimming. King’s is proud of our sporting achievements including the remarkable swimmers we have across our campuses. Recently three students received the 2023/2024 Age Champion accolade. This is not an easy feat with the quality of swimmers in the region. We congratulate year 7 students, Emmitt Morris and Harry Simmonds, as well as Gabriella Smith in Year 5 for their recent awards.
After the incredible success of our High School Bali Mission Fundraiser last term, where we raised almost $2000 to support Bali Christian College, we are looking at going bigger and better in Term 2! The High School LIFE Program are hoping to gather over 200 Hoodies and Tracksuit Pants to support Gold Coast Youth Service.
Operating on the Gold Coast since 1980, Gold Coast Youth Service is a not for profit, specialist youth support & homelessness organisation. They help young people aged 12 – 25, and their families, in the Gold Coast Region who may be marginalised, disadvantaged or homeless by providing information and support, housing and tenancy support and emergency assistance.
It’s so exciting that the students in the LIFE Team have chosen to support a cause that they see as being important to them.
All of high school are doing a hoodie and track pants drive this week to provide warm clothes to youth over the winter season. Second hand items are welcomed provided they are in good condition as to ensure we uphold the dignity of the young people who will receive it.
We are expectant that this fundraiser will make a huge difference in the lives of many young people.
Thank you in advance to our school community for your generosity.

It is highly recommended that all students intending to go to university visit at least 4 campuses BEFORE they make their decision about where to apply. The reason is to check that the intended course to be studied is exactly what you want from the degree. This helps reduce attrition due to course not meeting expectations and eliminating unnecessary additional costs of study. Students need to consider all aspects of university life including parking, clubs, sport, support as well as courses. Students can compare universities using the QILT website.
