In an exciting display of creativity, our Prep students transported their peers and teachers into the enchanting underwater world they have been studying this term. Armed with their newfound knowledge of the ocean and its inhabitants, our young marine enthusiasts recreated miniature habitats to show their newfound knowledge of marine life. On Monday, 10 June, they exhibited the dioramas to their parents and special guests. As visitors explored the displays, our Prep students eagerly shared their knowledge about various marine creatures, their habitats, and the importance of protecting sea life. The underwater dioramas represented the culmination of the Prep students' integrated lessons this term and also honed their artistic abilities.
Year 4 Students Bring Newton’s Laws to Life with Cardboard Arcade Extravaganza
11 June 2024
I liked Caine’s Arcade because we all worked together and it was super fun! I liked seeing the grade 3’s playing our game. We all took turns going under the box of our arcade game to operate it. People said “This is the best game!” Our group had fun working together. Alyssa Swift
Caine’s Arcade was a challenging and fun experience. It was fun handing out lollies and telling people how to play our arcade game. Lots of people came to play my arcade. Hugh Warrel
My favourite part about Caine’s Arcade was experiencing working together with my group. We had a lot of fun building our arcade and making new friends. We all got along very well and our arcade turned out great! Charlotte Hamilton
Nurturing Tomorrow's Thought Leaders in the Ethics Olympiad
11 June 2024
Over the past two terms, five of our exceptional Year 5 and 6 students have been rigorously engaging with moral values and ethical principles in preparation for the prestigious Ethics Olympiad. Madeleine Smit, Oscar Svensen, Lucas Toomey, and Kristine Lee and Zachary Mutemererwa have shown remarkable dedication and tenacity, honing their ethical reasoning skills each week.
Regrettably, Lucas Toomey fell ill yesterday and was unable to participate in today's event. Despite this setback, our team made us proud as they competed against various schools from across Australia and New Zealand, tackling challenging moral issues head-on.
Our Ethletes demonstrated their ability to navigate complex ethical dilemmas, using their moral compasses to guide their stances. Their performance was impressive, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience of the Ethics Olympiad.
We congratulate Madeleine, Oscar, and Kristine for their outstanding efforts and thank Lucas for his dedication throughout the preparation. Well done to our team for their hard work and commitment!

Learning about Marine Ecology
17 June 2024
Year 11 Science in Practice students have explored the study of Ecology. Their learning was brought to life with an immersive visit to SeaWorld, where they experienced a marine ecosystem firsthand. During this field trip, the students collected data using underwater transects and quadrats, identified various human impacts on the oceans, and explored ways to mitigate these effects and preserve the ecosystem.
While conducting their underwater observations, the students had the unique opportunity to witness the interactions among multiple species. Additionally, they snorkelled alongside marine animals such as reef sharks, stingrays, and a diverse array of tropical fish, enriching their understanding of marine life and ecological relationships.

Life Skills Classes Equip Year 12 Students with Practical Knowledge for Adulthood
11 June 2024
Each week our Year 12 students participate in the Essential Life Skills classes, designed to prepare them for the practical challenges of adulthood. The focus of the session was on two crucial areas: vehicle maintenance and understanding rental agreements.
The girls had a hands-on lesson in changing a tyre, a vital skill for any driver. They learned the step-by-step process, from loosening the lug nuts to safely using the jack and securing the spare tyre. This practical knowledge not only boosts their confidence but also ensures they are better prepared for unexpected situations on the road.
Meanwhile, the boys delved into the complexities of rental agreements. They were introduced to the key elements of a lease, including terms and conditions, tenant rights and responsibilities, and the importance of thoroughly reviewing a contract before signing. This session aimed to provide them with a solid understanding of renting properties, an essential aspect of independent living.
Both groups engaged enthusiastically with the material, recognising the value of these life skills. These weekly classes are an integral part of our curriculum, ensuring that our students are well-equipped to navigate the practicalities of adult life. By providing them with real-world knowledge and hands-on experience, we aim to foster a sense of independence and readiness for the future.

Sister Act: Young BMX Stars Racing to Success
5 June 2024
Rising BMX star and Year 3 King's Christian College Pimpama student, Miah Holder, has taken the Australian BMX racing scene by storm since she first began riding and racing in July 2022 at the age of 7. Inspired by her three cousins who also compete, Miah's journey into BMX racing quickly transformed from a family pastime into a promising athletic career. Her younger sister, Kennedy, aged 5 and currently in Prep, also races alongside her, showcasing the family's shared enthusiasm for the sport.
Both sisters have their eye on the prize for the Brisbane Olympics 2032 and Miah is looking forward to the 2026 UCI World Championships in Brisbane, when she be eligible to compete on the world stage.
Miah started her BMX training with group classes at the Nerang BMX track and participated in local Friday night races. Her talent and determination soon led her to competitive racing at the state and national levels, beginning in January 2023 as a member of the Ashmore BMX Club.
In the 2023 season, Miah raced in the 8-year-old girls' age class and achieved remarkable success in several prestigious competitions:
2nd place in the BMX Southeast QLD Shootout Series
3rd place in the AusCycling QLD State Series
6th place in the AusCycling QLD State Championships, earning her a coveted Q-plate ranking (6Q) for 2024
10th place in the AusCycling National Championships
Overall, Miah concluded the year ranked 6th in Queensland and 10th nationally for her age class. Her ambitious goal was to achieve both a Q-plate (state ranking) and an A-plate (national ranking). While she secured the Q-plate, she remains focused on achieving her A-plate in the upcoming 2024 season.
In 2024, Miah has already competed in several QLD State Series races, NSW State Series races, and National Series races in the 9-year-old girls' age class. Her most recent triumph was at the NSW State Series race in Lake Macquarie in March, where she won all her races and secured first place in the final.
Additionally, Miah showcased her talent at the Oceania Continental Championships – BMX Racing in February, competing against riders from Australia and New Zealand in the 9-year-old girls' age class. She narrowly missed the final, finishing 9th overall.
Beyond her impressive list of achievements, Miah has gained significant confidence and made lifelong friends from across Australia and New Zealand through her passion for BMX racing.
Miah and her coach, Brandon, are diligently working towards her goal of making the final at this year's National Championships. She aims to secure a top 8 spot in the 9-year-old girls' age class and achieve an A-plate ranking for the following year.

Student Wellbeing
Student Wellbeing Report - Semester 1, 2024
18 June 2024
We are thrilled to share the fantastic achievements of our Student Wellbeing Team this year! Their tireless efforts and dedication have greatly enriched the lives of our students, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment across both primary and high school levels. Here’s a highlight of the incredible programs and activities implemented.
Primary School Wellbeing Initiatives Our Primary School Wellbeing Team has been instrumental in running several impactful programs to support our students' emotional and social development. One of the standout initiatives is the Seasons for Growth program. This program helps children understand and manage change, loss, and grief by providing a safe space to explore their feelings and build resilience.
Another exciting addition to our wellbeing curriculum is the Drum King’s Program, inspired by the Rhythm to Recovery approach. This innovative program uses rhythmic music to improve emotional regulation, social connection, and self-esteem among students. The engaging drumming sessions have been a hit, helping students to express themselves and relieve stress in a fun, creative way.
The My Life Rulz program, developed by David Riddell, has also been a valuable resource. This program empowers children with practical strategies for dealing with life’s challenges, promoting positive self-talk, and building a strong sense of self-worth. In addition, we have continued with My Zones of Feelings, adapted from the Zones of Regulation framework. This program teaches children to identify and manage their emotions by categorizing them into different zones, making it easier to communicate how they feel and adopt appropriate coping strategies.
Body safety has been a top priority, with our team delivering Body Safety Education across all year levels. This initiative ensures that every student understands their right to feel safe and knows how to protect themselves from harm.
High School Wellbeing Initiatives
Our High School Wellbeing Team has also worked hard to create a vibrant and inclusive environment through various lunchtime clubs and evidence-based programs. Craft Club, Book Club, and HUB Hangouts have provided students with enjoyable and relaxing spaces to connect with peers, pursue hobbies, and take a break from academic pressures. The team has implemented several outstanding programs, including Shine, which focuses on building confidence and self-worth, and Stop Think Go, which enhances decision-making skills and emotional regulation. Peacewise has been another significant addition, teaching students conflict resolution and peacemaking principles.
The high school team has been hosting a Pancake Breakfast every Wednesday morning to foster a sense of community and ensure students start their day positively. This initiative has become a beloved tradition, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students to gather, enjoy a delicious meal, and engage with their peers and teachers.
Building a Supportive Community These programs and activities reflect our commitment to student well-being and our belief in creating a supportive, caring community where every student can thrive. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our Student Wellbeing Team and the positive impact they have made on our school community.
Thank you to all the parents and students for your ongoing support. We are fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that empowers our students to reach their full potential.

The scope for this job ranges from creating traditional maps to driving directions, and cartographers are employed by individuals, businesses, or specific industries such as the military. While it may seem obscure, this role is in fact more in demand than ever, with jobs expected to increase in the coming years.

First Round of Practicum Completed for KCOT Students
4 June 2024
The last week in May saw the return of our second-year KCOT trainees from ‘prac’, which was the very first one, for most trainees. Practicum placement is the allocation of a teacher-in-training into a classroom to plan, prepare, and teach real content and skills to students under the supervision of a registered and experienced teacher. Our proud trainees returned with plenty of stories from a range of schools throughout South-East Queensland, from Tweed to Toowoomba and everywhere in between!
Trainees in our KCOT program are at a natural advantage. They have been in classrooms with King’s teachers from the first week of their first year of university. All second-year trainees reported feeling comfortable with staff and students in their ‘prac’ schools, thanks to their experience here at King’s. Our first-year trainees cannot wait to go on their first practicum. Teaching schools like KCOT are flipping the narrative on training, offering experience and cultural understanding that regular universities just cannot match.
We are pleased to have all of our trainees back from prac and look forward to them returning to our King's classrooms at every campus.
