This year's Primary School Musical was an enchanting rendition of the timeless tale of Peter Pan Jr. where our Upper Primary performers dazzled audiences across three vibrant shows. The exceptional blend of dance, song, and theatrics, combined with youthful exuberance and remarkable talent brought the beloved cast of characters to life on stage. The narrative guided the audience from Wendy's home to the magical realm of Never Land - a place where eternal childhood reigns and where encounters with fairies, pirates, brave girls, and lost boys unfolded in a spectacle of imagination and adventure. Amidst Captain Hook's sinister plots to eliminate Peter Pan, the poignant theme of good triumphing over evil permeated the storyline and concluded with a traditional and heartwarming 'happily ever after.' The yearlong journey of learning and rehearsals culminated in a spectacular musical that undoubtedly left an indelible impression on both the young and the young at heart across our King's community.

King's proudly showcased some of our exceptional senior dancers at the Regional Rounds of the Dance Exchange (Dance X) competition in July. The four regional events attracted hundreds of remarkable dancers from schools across Queensland, and the top five dancers/ groups from each category then qualified for the State Competition. King's dancers displayed remarkable talent at the regionals and secured spots to progress in four sections. The Dance X State competition was held at All Hallows School in Brisbane from 14 - 15 October, 2023, and it was an incredible performance showcase. Congratulations to Sammie Penman and Kahlyiah Clarke-Teika (Year 9) who won first place in the duo/ trio section for their high-energy dance that they had choreographed themselves. Well done to Nisha Hanson (Year 8) who gave an exciting contemporary performance in the solo section and successfully received second place. Our heartfelt congratulations to our talented dancers and their teacher, Mrs Ellia Davis, for such incredible success this year.

Earlier this term, a group of Year 11 students from Reedy Creek and Pimpama had the unique opportunity to join the Emerging Young Women Leaders Business Skills Masterclass at Southern Cross University. During the event, they connected with accomplished women from diverse fields, gaining valuable insights into career advice, networking and work commitments. The emerging leaders also gleaned from King's alumnus, Candice Richards, who is pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy and shared her journey and life beyond high school. Other panellists included Sheree Young, former CEO of Bodyscience, as well as international climate activist, Lisa Blair. We were so thankful for the wisdom that was generously shared by these remarkable women and the amazing opportunity for our students.
King’s Maths Teachers are Always Learning

King’s staff are always ready to improve their skills. One of the areas that we were keen to upskill in is writing assessments, especially for the senior Maths subjects. Last week, the Reedy Creek campus hosted an after-school Professional Development meeting for the Gold Coast Maths Teachers’ Network, which we started some years ago. King's teachers were joined by two experts from the QCAA as well as representatives from 13 Gold Coast schools. Together, we targeted assessment writing in senior Maths, and learned so much. We are very confident that we are delivering high-quality assessment for our students. At King’s we have an excellent maths team across both Pimpama and Reedy Creek campuses and are so glad that we can collaborate and grow together as Maths teachers. This learning and collaboration then flows on to bless our students and their families.

Thomas' FUSE Cup Finals Experience

Earlier this year, King's took part in the FUSE Cup, an exciting esports event designed for high school students to showcase their gaming skills. Our very own Thomas Zischke competed in the Gold Coast High School senior division and demonstrated his gaming prowess, emerging as the champion among Gold Coast schools.
His achievement qualified him to compete in the State Finals, where he went head-to-head with talented gamers from other schools across Queensland. The competition was intense, and while the outcome didn't favour Thomas, his dedication and sportsmanship shone through. We are so proud of Thomas and the way he represented King's. Congratulations - your accomplishments are a testament to your skill and character!

Practical Learning Adventures in KTTC
20 October 2023
Hands-on learning (HOL) is a cornerstone of our King's Trade Training Centre (KTTC) program, providing the Year 10 and 11 students with practical skills beyond the classroom. Every Tuesday afternoon throughout the term, students can choose from various engaging and interactive activities, excursions, and classroom-based lessons. During a recent session in Week 3 this term, students embarked on some offsite experiential learning journeys. One group delved into the art of mosaic-making at Bunnings, where they discovered the creative potential in repurposing broken tiles and enjoyed transforming discarded materials into vibrant mosaics. Another group ventured to the creek with Mr Benn to learn the nuances of this time-honoured 'trade' and had fun putting their new skills into practice.
Other HOL electives include:
Reading to the Year 3 students - Some KTTC students were apprehensive at first but they all loved this activity, and it was great to see them grow in self-confidence.
Serving and helping at the King's Community Care and lower primary art room - Using their time toserve others and gain an appreciation for the needs of our community.
Learning about mechanics from King's own Irish diesel mechanic - this practical session helped teach our students about the basics of engine diagnostics and servicing which is an important life skill.
Beach walks - these sessions give the group time to discuss important topics around mental health practises and the benefits of exercise and taking time off technology
Coffee-making at King's Table - students enjoyed learning the art of making the perfect coffee using a professional barista machine
Making a ball launcher - students combined their science, technology and building knowledge for this fun team building exercise.
Arts and crafts - students develop fine motor skills and experiment with different art forms to engage the creative side of their brain
Nutrition sessions - students learn more about the benefits of healthy eating and practise by following a recipe to make tasty and healthy protein balls.
All of these endeavours foster practical dexterity, instil an appreciation for resourcefulness, teach a serving mindset, and encapsulate the essence of the hands-on learning experience at KTTC.
