View all 2024 Term Dates View Compass CalendarKing's 2023 Award Presentation Nights exemplified our commitment to academic excellence and Christian character as we recognised the outstanding achievements of our students. This event holds a significant place in our school calendar as we present our prestigious annual awards to students who have demonstrated remarkable academic success or shown exceptional character and leadership throughout the year. Our 2023 ceremonies were held over two evenings, with the Primary School celebration on Tuesday, 7 November, and High School on Wednesday, 8 November. Our audience of parents, family members and friends also enjoyed exceptional performances by our talented primary and high school students. After the presentations, our recipients had the opportunity to capture special moments with their teachers and family members at the photo booths near the COLA. We extend a heartfelt congratulations to our esteemed 2023 award winners for their dedication and commitment to school, and for consistently demonstrating excellence in their various endeavours throughout the year.
At King's, we love any opportunity to build our community, bring joy to our students and to help those less fortunate, and our Christmas-themed FUNdraiser achieved all three! On Tuesday, 31 October, the Amphitheatre precinct was filled with all things merry and bright as our Primary and High School students came to school wearing their Christmas costumes and sharing their festive spirits, to raise funds for King's Care Christmas Hamper Project. King's Care is the outreach of King's Church, and it helps many people every week of the year with food relief and vital services. At Christmas time, their beautiful food hampers are given to hundreds of struggling families across the Gold Coast. Our grand finale LIFE event for 2023 included a Christmas treats competition, 'best-dressed' awards, a live concert of choirs and dance troupes, larger-than-life decorations and a lunchtime BBQ. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we sold out all of our amazing home-baked goods, and raised record funds for King’s Care to help even more families this Christmas. Special thanks to our LIFE team, led by Mrs Meyers, whose dedication of time and energy throughout 2023 made our fundraising efforts possible. It’s amazing what the power of kindness can do!

Christmas Treats Competition
The day before our Festival event, our families filled the Hub with a large assortment of baked goods for our Christmas Treats Competition. Our panel of judges perused over the creative array of entries and had the difficult decision of selecting the winners. The treats were then sold to students and staff during the Festival lunch to help with our fundraising efforts. Thank you families for your generous contributions!

On Tuesday, 7 November, the LIFE team were very excited to present Trishelle Sayuuni, the Founder and Director of 100% Hope, with a large cheque during our Primary School assemblies. Trishelle had no idea of the amount and so was shocked and amazed to see the substantial sum of $14,900 raised for the charity during our Day of Hope fundraising efforts last term. Trishelle was so thankful for the huge generosity of our King's community and looks forward to being able to help many more underprivileged children in Uganda with these funds. Our Primary LIFE Vice Captains prayed for Trishelle and 100% Hope for the amazing work they continue to do in shining the love of Jesus.
King's Primary Leadership Program follows a careful selection process, commencing with prospective student leaders delving into the attributes of effective leadership and crafting written applications and speeches. Submissions are evaluated by our Campus Principal, Primary Coordinators, and teachers, with shortlisted candidates given the opportunity to deliver a leadership speech to their peers. The unveiling of our 2024 Primary Leadership Team took centre stage at the end of the 2023 Primary School Presentation Night, marking an exciting milestone for our Primary School community and incoming leaders.
Thank you all for your willingness to serve our King’s Primary community as you undertake your leadership roles throughout 2024!
We are thrilled to announce that King's Trade Training Centre has just inducted their first group of student leaders for 2024. Our inaugural KTTC student leadership team undertook a rigorous application process and have demonstrated how they strongly embody the characteristics of King’s culture. KTTC's five new student leaders are looking forward to representing their student body in these important roles and we can't wait to see the great impact they will make.
The Queensland baking community came together on Monday, 1 November, at the Victoria Park Function Rooms for a night of celebration and recognition during the 2023 BITA Apprentice Awards. Organised by Baking Industry Training Australia, these awards aim to acknowledge the hard work, skill, and dedication of the next generation of bakers and pastry cooks. The event witnessed the presentation of 28 prestigious awards, and honoured outstanding achievements, such as Apprentice of the Year for each qualification level, the School-based Apprentice of the Year, The Rising Star Award, and the coveted Overall Apprentice of the Year. Among the accomplished individuals recognised was King's Trade Training Centre student, Sienna Vanderdonk, who is doing her apprenticeship with Tarte Bakery & Café and secured a very commendable second place in the School-based Apprentice of the Year category. The event was a testament to the bright future of the baking industry, showcasing the promising talent and dedication of its apprentices and we congratulate Sienna on this wonderful achievement!

On Monday, 30 October, our College celebrated the second annual Basketball Awards Night. This year has been exceptionally strong for King's Basketball and finished on a high note at the annual Champion Basketball School of Queensland (CBSQ) tournament which involved over 500 teams. King's CBSQ Sophomore Girls finished 2nd and Sophomore Boys 4th, while the Junior boys finished 4th and the girls finished 6th. Our Opens teams also had a great tournament, finishing in the top 8 overall. This year also saw 15 players selected for the district Hinterland team, nine continued to represent the South Cost Region, while Lailani Brown was successfully selected for the State team.
Benji Cogdell-Baird’s success is nothing short of inspirational. As a Year 9 student at King’s, Benji discovered the physically demanding discipline of breakdancing at a young age and trains himself at home without a coach. Last weekend, Benji showcased his incredible talent by competing in the 'Oceania Breaking Championships,' with a hope of securing direct entry into the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Benji was the youngest competitor and the only athlete from Queensland, and he successfully defeated his older rivals throughout the rounds, to finish the competition with an incredible silver medal. Congratulations Benji! This achievement didn’t secure direct entry but qualified him for the two-part Olympic Qualifier Series in May and June in 2024. The 'OQS' will bring together the world's best break-dancers in Shanghai and Budapest as they compete for the remaining 14 Olympic Games places available.
The sport has been experiencing explosive growth, as seen with 4,000 Olympic breakdancing tickets in just 15 seconds! Benji's journey and talent is a source of immense pride for King’s and for Queensland. His unwavering dedication is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance, and it's a journey worth following as he continues to chase his Olympic dreams. We wish you all the best Benji!
The 2023 Barefoot Waterskiing Season saw remarkable achievements for Zohie Duncan (Year 12) and her younger brother Toby (Year 11). Toby's journey commenced with his exceptional performance at the Oceanic Championships in Mulwala, Vic, where he clinched a Silver medal for Tricks and contributed to the Australian Team's Gold medal. Later, both siblings represented Australia at the 2023 Barefoot World Championship Tournament, with Toby securing 7th place in Slalom and 6th place in Jump, earning a Silver medal for the Junior Australian Team. Zohie also displayed her prowess, securing commendable positions in Slalom, Trick, and the Overall Junior Girl category.
Following their international success, the duo continued their winning streak at the QLD Barefoot State Championships and the subsequent National Championships. Toby defended his Junior Boys Title and dominated the podium with Golds in Tricks, Slalom, and Jump, while Zohie claimed the Overall Under 23 Women Champion title along with Gold medals in Trick and Slalom. Their outstanding achievements are a testament to their relentless training and unwavering dedication and our school community congratulates these two skiing stars for their impressive success.
Last Friday, King's sporting teams played in 33 APS Finals matches and successfully won 22 Premierships for the Semester 2 season this year. Congratulations to our winning teams on an outstanding APS season!

The Year 4 Instrumental Music Concert was held in the College auditorium on Wednesday, 1 November. The concert was the culminating event for the Year 4 Instrumental Music Immersion Program, where all students learn an instrument over the course of the academic year. It was exciting for our budding musicians to perform in their first concert on their orchestral instruments to a live audience of parents, friends and their Year 3 peers. Many audience members commented on how impressed they were with the students' skills, and how well they performed in their cohesive ensembles. Our young musicians thoroughly enjoyed the experience and their enthusiasm for playing a musical instrument was evident. Thank you to so many Year 4 parents and friends for attending and to our Primary Music teachers for helping our new musicians on their learning journey. We are looking forward to seeing the Year 4 students continuing this journey in the years to come.
