Winning Winnington Swims into the Olympics
King's alumni Elijah Winnington (class of 2017) powered into the Tokyo Olympics with a qualifying 400m freestyle time of 3:42.65, making him the fastest man in the world at this event in 2021.
Elijah was the recipient of King's 2017 Rhonda Bevan Award for the 'Most Outstanding Sporting Achievement'. In Year 12, he became the first swimmer in Australian history to win eight individual gold medals from eight events at the Australian Age Championships. In the same year, he won two bronze medals at the FINA World Junior Championships.
King's Kids cheered Elijah on in the 2018 Commonwealth Games where he won a gold medal in the 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay. Speaking at a special King's assembly after the event, Elijah told his fans that his main focus would now be qualifying for the Olympic Games. Well, Elijah, you did it! And we couldn't be more thrilled. Congratulations!
